Nice find, it's like two solutions in one as I was wondering if I would find a piano or something for that Onyx medal. 200 times would only have got you a bronze medal in Gears 3, so no need for the piano this time.

Turbo controller works great for this one. Dont bother leaving the controller running over a long perior of time to get rank 50 as THIS ONYX MEDAL CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED ONCE!

Thanks for this solution, it really speeded up the process for me and a friend. Took us about 15-20 minutes for us both to get it done. Keep up the great work.

an another way to getting this chievo and in my opinion easilier:
40 times played sections without reloading sections. comes by playing the storymode (minimum required 2 times), try without dying.
this medal is the very last medal in the medal menu - survivor

good luck n fun

This is how I also got it. Very easy to do, especially on Casual Mode.

Thanks for pointing out that this medal only requires 40 levels. It will come pretty easily if you're playing on a lower difficulty. I got this last night while replaying a few levels on casual to complete a few declassified missions I missed on my first play-thru.

If you don't want to sit and press x repetitively another easy Onyx medal is the fortification repair (with Baird) takes about 15 games of overrun (bearing in mind you heal everything) and it's a lot more fun, the amount needed is 200k however where it doesn't reset to 0 after every level it's much faster to obtain than the Onyx than in previous games.

Good luck fellow gears!

My method is similar to shade but I did it in Chapter 4 (One Step Closer) on the Aftermath Campaign.

Play through the chapter till you have to plant the 4 bombs in the building. Then on the 1st Bomb hit X to arm the bomb then when it wants you to hit A simply hit it right away & fail at arming it.

Just repeat that 200 times & you'll have the Doorman Onyx Medal.

*Note* (I also finished the chapter afterwards just to make sure it saved.)

Another way to get this achievement is to simply reach level 50, which will also get you the achievements for level 5,10,20,30,40 on the way to 50. Its not hard to do if you have the vip pass.

These are my own video guides that I recently made for this achievement.

Most importantly the second video will show you a method that enables you to boost for most (if not all) of the Onyx Medals for EVERY WEAPON. This method in its entirety was founded by myself in late March / early April. smile

If you are here to get the Ready For War achievement then I would suggest going for the "Doorman" Onyx Medal because it is clearly the easiest. Basically just open 200 doors in the campaign.

The FIRST video is for the getting the "Doorman" Onyx Medal towards the Ready For War achievement.
The SECOND video is more for boosting for Onyx Medals for EVERY WEAPON!

If you have any questions, please ask and thanks!

Although Unknown Shade has pretty much given you all a quick and easy guide, there's also another Onyx medal you can get easily just by playing through the Campaign: the Survivalist medal. Basically, you have to complete all sections of the Campaign without reloading from a checkpoint - there's the loophole, it doesn't say anything about dying. wink

If you do somehow manage to get your head blown off, or your guts splattered across the wall, or suffer death in some other spectacular form, simply pause the game just as you die and quit the session, then reload. The game should keep your current amount of sections that you completed intact, allowing you to get the Onyx Survivalist medal with ease.

There are a lot of medals you earn in the game for doing various things such as amount of kills, number of matches played, etc. You can find these in the Medals section of Stats and Awards. Most of the medals have various ranks to earn. They are shown below on a list with stars. Onyx is for completing the 4 star section. You only unlock it by finishing the previous ones. You need to earn the War Supporter Onyx medal for a different achievement, so you will unlock this while going for that if nothing else.

Survivalist: Besides playing in the events, this is the medal most people will get to Onyx first. It requires you to complete 40 sections in the campaign without reloading form a checkpoint. This means you can be downed, but you can "retry" that section. This should come with natural progression while playing on Casual. If not, you may replay a section you felt was very quick or easy (like the first one in the first chapter).
