How to unlock the Seriously Judgmental achievement in Gears of War: Judgment - Definitive Guide

If you are extremely good at Gears, you shouldn't have too much trouble, but here is the easier way of getting this achievement AND completing the game on Insane AND Onyx stars!

- Switch Party Type to Local and sign in a guest on a second controller.

- Set your difficulty to Insane and the guests difficulty to Casual.

- Play each declassified mission as the guest on Casual.

*This method won't get you Onyx Stars*

Thanks to HolyHa1fDead, there is a way to get Onyx Stars too using this slightly different method:

- Have a buddy join the game and he or she plays on casual.

- The casual player quits before the end of the mission, then you will get the Onyx stars.

*The Casual player can not get the Onyx stars by rejoining (as you don't get to choose your difficulty for an already occurring game.)*
3 options:
1) Take turns on each mission being Insane player.
2) Play entire Campaign as Casual player and then swap.
3) Have a buddy who doesn't care about achievements but doesn't mind helping you out :D

I was thinking about posting this earlier today, but you saved me the trouble. If the casual player quits before the end then you will get Onyx stars.

At what point do I rejoin to both get credit for onyx stars?

I apologise Ronni3 for jumping the gun on that (I thought mojo had meant the casual player can get the onyx stars too. He or she can not, sorry)

how does the 2nd person choose the difficulty at the start and when he rejoins?

By Dizzy Shay on 24 Mar 2013 21:40
They can't. I jumped the gun and assumed they could. I'm now going through doing this with a buddy, and he told me he doesn't get the option to choose his difficulty :(.

Which sucks, cuz that would save so much time.

This is like the "I'm not even going to try and play it on insane method." Wouldn't you get some enjoyment out of "actually" doing what the achievement requires instead of taking the easy way out.

Okay, that's your opinion. This website is meant to help people who are having trouble getting achievements right? I figured i'd help.

But when the casual player rejoins the game, will he be on casual?

By NeverUnlucky#344 on 24 Mar 2013 23:06
There is a way to do it but not 100% that the game will give you time. Casual players jump out just before the end, join a random campaign match on insane, then quit and join your match again before the section is over. That ought to put them on insane since they choose insane on random match before rejoining yours. Unless your match ends after a certain time when the last enemy is killed

Except for the last campaign mission. The final boss was a PAIN! The theron guards screw you over soooo quickly and you have to be precisely quick. I and my bro just finished the final boss with all stars and the declassified mission today.

I don't understand why this is receiving negatives. This works like a charm! Yes you need a partner to work with over Xbox Live but its better than raging over a cheap death over and over again.
If anyone chooses to do the achievement with this method then maybe you (and co-op buddy) should do it quickly before EPIC patch this (thats if they do). This looks like a fault on their behalf and knowing the EPIC forums someone would be bending their arse over to the staff squealing to them this fault.

It's because people say things like "play the game properly" or they brag about beating it on insane by themselves (cool story bro)

The fact is: solutions are meant for people having trouble getting achievements.
Haters gonna hate ;)

Even if this guide helped one of you guys, mission accomplished.

Great guide.....im a big believer that figuring out ways around the developers is as much fun as playing and had been around since asteroids in 1981..... There is to many games and to many achievements to do them all "the proper way"..... And if you are so good why are you looking for the guide in the first place

We played this the other day with two on casual and two on insane (one of which was the host). Just before the mission ends the casuals drop out. The host (on insane) pauses the game when the stars are coming up and invites the casuals back in. We all got the onyx stars but the declassified missions were on the original difficulty. So we had to play the missions over to get the other guys the declassified mission on insane. The onyx stars dont get reset.

yeah this achievement site is supposed to help people get achievements, not everyone likes seeing the only solution for an achievement being a cheating way. It's pathetic how this crap ruins achievement ratios, and this was supposed to be a hard achievement. Really hope they patch this bs

Explain to me how this method is a "cheating" way, I'd LOVE to read all about it.

Idk if you knew this or not, but this solution is for the SERIOUSLY JUDGMENTAL achievement which is completing each Declassified mission on insane. The game ALLOWS each player to choose their own difficulty. So if one is playing on insane while someone else is on casual, the insane player is clearly not gonna run out there doing all the work (you'll die every time 9 times out of 10)

The attaining Onyx stars was simply a suggestion (to save time)

So your hopes of Epic/People Can Fly patching this are slim to none. it's like Call of Duty removing Noob Tubes. (not gonna happen)

If the casual player returns to the game while the insane player is seeing his/her Onyx stars obtained (just don't press "A" button to continue), the casual player will earn the Onyx stars and the session on insane as well. So, the casual player only needs to complete the declassified mission on insane.

Here is a link to a video walkthrough on insane, getting all the stars, and every declassified mission. It has full commentary and should help players of any skill level get these achievements.

Highly recommend this guide. Great commentaries and strategies. Keeps it honest, letting you know when you may need to get lucky, or when you may get pooped on, but to keep trying. A+.

This can be done solo as I just did it. Only a few levels get really hairy. When it doubt, just RUN. RUN AWAY. Run past your team and let the toughest enemies (i.e. Ragers, Bloodmounts) attack your team.
But let's all get real. This achievement is about beating Karn on insane-declassified. It is virtually one of the hardest levels you will ever play in video gaming. It takes the perfect mix of prep, luck, and patience. Here's my guide after over 100 attempts and then beating him twice in 4 attempts.

Round 1 Karn's Guns:

You should never die here before Karn gets up on the roof the first time or you are just rushing. To prepare, work your way over to the right, and gather up full lancer ammo and the boomshot and grab the 2 frags. Perfect hiding spot is in cover, in the front of the circle where you can see where they were spawn from.

Round 2 - 7 Torques, 1 Mauler, and 4 Cyclops - When the 1st round of elite spawns, wait a few seconds for them to congregate near your team in the middle, and then quickly spam as many of them with grenades and boomshots as you can. Avoid the mauler at all costs unless you can get a grenade tagged on him. This is the most vital part of the level and where luck plays the biggest role. If you don't get enough guys with grenades and boomshots, you might as well restart bc a torque bow will most likely get you. In the meantime, STAY RUNNING from Karn's charges. Hide behind the taller of the covers when his leg is exposed. This keeps you out of the eye of torque bows. Dont use cover though, just move as close to it and active lancer the piss out of his leg. Two or three clips should do it.

Round 3 - Run away from nemacysts and make your way to the markza and pick up the other 2 frags. Hide in the middle area where the frags are until the next spawn comes.
7 Ragers, 2 Grinders - Markza the piss out of the Grinders. They like to end up right where you need to hide. This part is as important as dealing with the torque bows - ACTIVE MARKZA THE RAGERS. They make for easy head shots and 6 or 7 actives will take them down when raged. Meanwhile, with your active lancer prepped, keep a lazy eye on Karn's mouth. It doesn't take much damage at all and if you can down him with no grubs left, you are GOLD. GET TO COVER AND BLIND FIRE LANCER. His pistols will sneak up on you as the red is somewhat hidden over the pet dog that he is trying to recover on. Spam him and then cutscene, jump out of your chair, kiss your dog, go buy some taco bell and go brag to anyone you can that you just beat one of the hardest levels of all time in video games!!!!! Good luck!

What about just having a friend or two play on Casual while you run away like a coward on Insane? Wouldn't that work?

@Ninja, I think your friends would have to quit before the end or you wouldn't earn the credit for beating it on Insane. (or at least that's what I've understand from other solutions/comments)

On round 3, if you'd kill all spawned guys, Karn will stop its mouth-wise actions and will spawn another bunch of backups. So, do not kill them all - just grinders and a couple of ragers - and fully focus on Karn after that.

There are a total of 42 missions spanning across all chapters. This has to be done on Insanity, which is not unlocked until you have completed the campaign at least once. You will find a red skull on the wall that is glowing. Go up to it to get the mission. You can accept or decline it. They do help get you more stars easier as well. Check out the guide below to find them all if for some reason you can't spot one (they are all mostly very obvious and at the start of the sections).

You can check which ones you have completed in the Stats & Awards section under campaign. Review pages 41-46.
