How to unlock the Superstar achievement in Gears of War: Judgment - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement, you must get 3 stars on all 42 sections of the game on the insane difficulty.

1) Play co-op with 1-3 friends.

2) Have the host be on insane and the joiners be on casual.

3) Have the people on casual do most of the work towards earning the three stars. On every mission, activate the declassified mission and get as many ribbons, gibs, executions and headshots as possible as these provide a sizeable boost to the star meter.

4) Once all enemies are cleared out of the section and before continuing, have all of the joiners quit out of the match so that just the host is left. If three stars were not attained, restart the section.

5) If three stars were attained, continue to the next section.

6) Invite your friends again once the new section has started and repeat steps 3-5 until all the missions are complete.

Overall, this should take about 8 hours per person

I thought the stars depended on lowest difficulty, so if anyone was on casual you'd only get bronze. Not true then?

Neat trick. https://www.trueachievements.com/DarkxMaterials.htm has the achievement so why would anyone think this doesn't work or give a negative vote? Makes you wonder why we try and help other gamer by posting solutions. Stid voting system. Sorry I can't vote on your solution but thumbs up from me.

I haven't tried it yet but will be doing co-op insane / casual with my g/f later seems logical to me that you do the declassified mission with the person to make it easier then they drop any stars you earn change to onyx am I right?

I havent tried it but a friend who has the achievement sent me here. Thumbs Up from me.

Would like to note that there will always be some hater or righteous gamer who negative votes good solutions. I think anyone who negative votes should have to state why and have their name put on it.

I vote you positive because you need positive for such a crucial tip. However HolyHa1fDead's solution is more thorough, and now includes a link to refer to yours in regards to difficulty, but covers everything else himself, so I think that is a better 'top solution'.

Well now I see why my ratio went down lol. Pretty sweet trick. Although I got it legit solo I will be giving you a positive. Why? Because a solution should be about making an achievement easier and that's what this is all about.

I will be sure to pass this info on to my friends struggling solo.

Well said Cinderkin I understand a holy chainsaw being pissed and respect him for leaving a comment as many neg voters do not. But the anger should be at the developers for coding the game to behave that way. https://www.trueachievements.com/DarkxMaterials.htm solution may make it easier to get this achievement, but it could take a group of 4 people about 32 hours to all get it, so it is probably quicker to get it "legit". oh and thanks PrinceRules64 ;)

@ chainsaw, it's kinda funny and sad at the same time to see you complaing about not earning achievements "legit" while you boosted the fuck out of so many games, look at your feedback. Halo 3, Halo Reach, Aliens vs Predator, Crysis, I could go on forever. This is a site to earn achievements on the most easiest way, that's why people spend time to make great solutions, like this one. Whenever I see a comment off you you're always complainng and bitching. If you don't like it, get off TA. Nobody will miss you.

https://www.trueachievements.com/DarkxMaterials.htm - I have been playing with 2 on Insane and 2 on casual (but the casual people have not been quitting and so I have not been getting Onyx stars). We did 3 Chapters in 6 hours, whereas with 1 on Insane you managed to get through 3 Chapters in 4 hours. So with those rough numbers doing it 2+2 will take 24 hours total whereas 1+3 takes 32 hours, so it will be quicker, but not by as much as half (ie 16 hours).

ClaytThaGreat - please keep your opinions to yourself. There are currently 11 other neg voters who didn't even post a comment as to why, and the reason they don't post a comment is because of comments like yours. I couldn't care less what people think about how I get an achievement, I am only interested in improving my solutions and helping other members of TA and to do that I need people to be able to leave honest comments.

What this has got me wondering is why if you already have the achievement (as I assume the 12 neg voters have)would you go and read a solution for it to find out there was an easier way? I wonder how many of the negative voters actually used this method to complete the last one or two sections they were having difficulty with. Neg voting should really be for "I followed your solution and after trying for X hours I still don't have the achievement" meaning either the solution doesn't work or needs more detail.

@VoicesWithin

You think I boosted " I Love the Corps" in AVP and the vidmaster challenges? I don't care about achievements that take forever made quicker by boosting. I talk about challenging achievements. To all those who skip a hard achievement with a cheap trick, you may laugh and be proud of yourselves and yadda yadda, but deep inside you know you are mediocre at best.

You can't rejoin mid level or after one person gets 3 stars. They will only see the stars that they were present for as of joining. Which would be nothing if it was right before finishing the level. Anyways this is a great solution and a real time saver. If you really want to do it legit go ahead but after completing the first two testimonies I was tired of getting one shotted by boomers across the map.

This solution makes use of an in-game coding exploit which is accepted as fair game by both Microsoft and TA and some gamers absolutely cannot abide the fact. It's not that their own moral and/or ethical standards won't allow them to do it that causes them such anguish. It's the fact the rest of us recognise it's only a game and don't actually give a shit :0)

Good solution

im currently doing this the 'legit' way and damn its hard, but extremely satisfying once you finally get past a tough section. im up for game exploitation just like any other guy but i think people should atleast try doing it the real way first, before going straight to the exploits. its going to make the achievment all the sweeter for me when i finally unlcok it( which may take a while), but atleast i know that i have earnt it. anyway there is my 5 cents

Game was actually very easy on Insane by yourself. Bots are incredibly OP since they can't die and they also serve as a great decoy. Took me about a night to get halfway before I got bored and turned it off. Then finished it up the next night. It is easy enough to do by yourself. All you have to do is find a Markza and abuse its awesomeness. And at parts with sentries, just put them in front of a door so enemies get stuck on them. But honestly, I don't care how anyone gets the achievement. I was honestly less excited when Superstar popped than I thought I would be...

Here's a way for multiple players to get Onyx stars from a Declassified Mission while using the split-difficulty/dropping out trick. I've written the guide based on 2 players but it works fine with 3 or 4. This method can't be used in split-screen. Credit to LeiChat who confirmed that you can incorporate split screen players but that the split screen players can only drop out together (therefore you can't use this trick in a 2 player split screen game but can include split screen players in a 3 or 4 player game).

NOTES BEFORE YOU START
To speed things up I'd suggest everyone get into an invite only XBox Live party so that the person or people quitting out can rejoin the game without the need to send invites. Hopefully it goes without saying that the in-game party should be set to invite only.

1. Load the game from the main menu with player 1 (the host) on Insane and player 2 on Casual and earn the 3 stars. These will show as bronze stars at the top of the screen while earning them as player 2 is on casual.

2. When you get to the part where you have to press up on the D-Pad to finish the Declassified Mission player 2 should quit out.

3. At this point player 1 is in the game on their own with 3 bronze stars showing. Finish the mission by pressing up on the D-Pad and you'll be given 3 Onyx stars instead - YOU NEED TO STAY ON THE STARS SCREEN!!

4. If player 2 joins back in while player 1 is admiring the 3 Onyx stars then player 2 will also get the Onyx stars. Player 1 has to wait for them to see the stars and then continue onto the next section for them to count for everyone in the game.

Please Note
Just to let you guys know, player 2 (and 3/4 if you've got that many players) joining back in will join back in on Casual (or whatever difficulty they picked in step 1). They aren't given a choice about what difficulty they want to join in on. In addition to this I have no idea about what difficulty they'll be on if they join a game in progress that they've not played in before but since it has no impact on getting the star achievements I haven't bothered to find out.

What you get
Player 1 gets 3 Onyx stars, a Declassified Mission completed on Insane and progress towards beating the campaign on Insane.
Player 2 gets 3 Onyx stars

This may not seem so good but it means that your 2nd playthrough for player 2 only requires that they beat the Declassified Mission on Insane - stars aren't important. This means you can have as many DBNOs (down but not out) during the mission as you like and as long as you live through it you'll get the credit for doing it. Another bonus is that player 2 doesn't have to quit out when you finish the declassified missions on that 2nd playthrough meaning everyone can stay in the game and earn XP.

I credit DarkxMaterials for the solution that told me about the co-op trick in the first place.
I'm taking the credit for figuring out that everyone can get the stars at the same time though smile

@LeiChat - Good thinking. I'd not thought to test that out but will do when I get the chance. To answer your question, I expect it will work just fine playing splitscreen as guests.

@DhukkaGER - Another good question and another one I don't know the answer to. Again, I'll test this when I get the chance. It all comes down to what point within the section that the game checks to see if there are multiple players. I'd expect it wouldn't work as the host is finishing the section while playing alone and the guests are simply piggy-backing the results screen to get progress towards Superstar.

Hopefully I'll get chance to test this tonight. Once done I'll update the solution and credit you both where applicable.

Just to let you know 2 Gold gamertags, split screen on a single console worked ok. The only downside is not being able to do 3 on Casual, 1 on Insane. It has to be 2 and 2 as the split screen pair can only back out together and when hosting obviously both need to be on insane.

Can someone who hasn't played the campaign yet do all the campaign related Achievements in two playthroughs with this method? First PT he carries someone on Insane and gets himself Superstar, next PT he plays on Insane and does the Declassifieds. Or does this require 3 PT's, the first one being to unlock Insane mode?

Not to be a downer or hater of the other solution, but I believe in doing things the way they are meant to be played. With that said I am going to give you some advice.

This can easily be done on solo insane and get 3 stars, some missions may take more tries than others but its not too crazy.

TIPS -

Always carry a sawed off shotty and retro lancer when possible. These weapons have the highest damage close range. Especially in levels with large enemies like boomers but especially for enemies like bloodmounts.

Retro lancer or chainsaw execute ragers before they turn! If they turn you can 1 shot their face with a sawed off.

Grenades stick on a regular throw in judgement, if you see a cluster of enemies, stick them and clusterluck those mothers

Markza/Breechshot/ most other weapons refill from normal ammo boxes. Sawed off's, nades, longshots and boomshots do not, refill these with Onyx ammo boxes.

Use turrets and mulchers when available to make quick work of enemies.

Levels with gnasher and ranged turrets, generally you want to place them in the same area and then cover the other side by yourself. If you get in trouble fall back to the turrets and dont forget to reload.

For 3 Stars concentrate on ribbons, executions, headshots, and gibs. Easier ribbons to get involve 5 boltok kills, 3 headshots, 3 executions, and kick tickers before killing them.

Last but not least, have fun and dont expect to pass every level your first try. The AI is pretty good in Judgement so let them do some work if you arent required to do something specific. If you choose to casual glitch this, that is your right to do so, just dont expect any respect from anybody for it.

Game on brothers, enjoy the video below of me beating Karn on Insane with 3 stars :D

You must first unlock Insane Difficulty by completing the campaign once. While playing on this difficulty, you should be familiar with most of the campaign as well as the declassified missions. Accepting those missions always helps your score. There are 3 stars on each section of the game. If playing with partners on this difficulty (they must have completed the game once to play Insane with you), anyone who dies will make the last checkpoint reload. It might be helpful to review the below guide.

Insane Difficulty Walkthrough

3 STAR GLITCH ON INSANE WITH CO OP
Have one player on Insane difficulty and the other on casual. The casual does all of the work. At the end of the level, have the casual player quit out. Now finish the level. When the stat screen comes up with the starts, invite the player in. As long as you haven't hit continue, they will get credit as well as you for 3 stars on insane. This is the easy way out and I highly suggest it over doing it solo.
