How to unlock the I Can't Quit You Dom achievement in Gears of War - Definitive Guide

To do this achievement you must start from the very beginning of the game and finish all chapters and acts to the end. It doesn't have to be done in one sitting, but each chapter and act must be finished (difficulty also doesn't matter). Also this must be done in co-op (local or on LIVE) and you must NOT be hosting

Follow the guidelines for the other Dom achievements and you will have this one in the bag easily, as well as these along the way:
Gears of WarDom-curiousThe Dom-curious achievement in Gears of War worth 14 pointsComplete 1 co-op chapter as Dominic Santiago on any difficulty

Gears of WarDominationThe Domination achievement in Gears of War worth 34 pointsComplete 10 different co-op chapters as Dominic Santiago on any difficulty

Note: Just like in Gears 2, the tutorial at the beginning of the game counts as a "chapter" so if you don't get the achievement after finishing the game, make sure and try and do the tutorial at the beginning of the game first, to avoid having to make a possible 2nd run through.

I think it would be less confusing to whoever clicked "I Need A Solution For This Achievement" if you noted that you must play in co-op, and can not be the host.

I just did this with a friend on casual and it took about three hours. And that was goofing around chainsawing most enemies. It also makes it faster to run up and close emergence holes with frags as they open. If you get downed you can be revived anyway.

Agree with Epsilon Theta. I also did this with a friend and the achievement didn't pop. I was in Co-Op and I wasn't hosting. Anyone else have this glitch?

Make sure you do the tutorial at the beginning of the game, it may be what your missing.

I had the same problem on Gears 2, finished the entire game on coop then turns out I just needed to play the tutorial part and the cheevo popped.

I did the tutorial on 1 of my online attempts, and not the other. Still didn't pop.
Recently, I played on split screen (without doing the tutorial), and it popped after Act 1. I recommend everyone try this as well, but you should probably do the tutorial just in case.

Maybe you have to do both "paths" for it to pop

I was thinking that too, but most were able to get it in 1 playthrough. That's definitely a good idea though if it doesn't unlock the first time for anyone.

This achievement is well and truly broken. And it is not just in the past few months - I hosted and played through the game 2 years ago on Casual - my friend got the achievements for 1 and 10 chapters, but not this one.
We played through on Insane with her hosting, and I got all 3.
We have since repeated it on Casual, me hosting a new campaign, in one session beginning to end, allowing all the CS to play through, and still no achievement for her. We made sure she went through first on every checkpoint, so Dom wouldn't just "jump ahead",. We replayed the chapters where you split up, so that she went through both left and right paths, too... still nothing.
My only theory is that it does not work on Casual (despite the description). Has anyone unlocked it on Casual? I'm so pissed off and sick of this game now, I don't feel like playing it yet again on Hardcore. Don't feel like getting Gears 3 either! Epic fail.

Interesting concept, maybe the first 2 Dom achievements will unlock in Casual, but not the last one? Now that I think of it, I did do my co-op run through as Dom with a buddy over LIVE and we played on Insane, and mine popped no problem. If you do end up going through again on Hardcore/ Insane and it pops I'll add it into the solution, or if anyone else can add to this I'd be happy to add to the solution.

This achievement needs to be fixed. My bro got it on his first playthrough and no tutorial. I've played the game 3 times, all on each difficulty and still no achievement. Now I'm playing it again, 4th time, on casual and hopefully I'll get something.

You might have missed a chapter, the description tells a lie, it really means "Do every chapter and act." So you might have missed an chapter.

I'm not sure if anyone is still having issues with this, but I can debunk all the random theories of why it wasn't working...

Clearing the cache doesn't matter.
Doing it over multiple difficulties doesn't matter.
Having your save file transfered from another Xbox and completing it there doesn't matter.

I started my one and only co-op run of this game over 2 years ago on insane on another Xbox. We gave up after dying multiple times on the mine cart part. Anyhow, I got a new Xbox since then and have cleared my cache no less than 10x since then and just started up the co-op halfway through the game with another friend last night on easy difficulty last night and finished it today with the achievement unlocking.

In conclusion, I would think that as people mentioned earlier, anyone having a problem probably missed the prologue tutorial or whatever. That or they patched the game at some point...

That should work, as long as your main profile is not hosting and is playing as Dom, it should pop just fine.

Seems that I have to activate an xbox live code to be able to play this on my own with 2 controllers. So annoying!

Unless I am now wasting it but the game tells me that too many people are trying to play the game when I host a game.

Shit like this is very frustrating!

So I just wasted a 48 hour trial code. Still could not host a co op game! LOL

I wish this guide would tell me what choices to make!

Maybe this is why it doesn't unlock for some and I also don't want to waste time playing the wrong mode or in a wrong way.

Have gone through this twice now. Once on split screen and once on online co-op. Still didn't get it...

Played it three times now. This time on the 360 in split screen. (the first 2 tries were on XOne). Still nothing! What the fuck?!

Hi all. So I've had this game since 2007 and have LITERALLY just got 'I can't quit you, Dom.' I've played 2 player a lot, here and there over the years and was certain I'd been through every chapter more than once. Today, I've played through the first chapter again with my wife's (dummy) account. It's just popped for me at the start of Ashes/Knock Knock. Am thinking I might not have done the tutorial til recently and then it needed me to play through another section or 2 before working out that I'd done all the rest already....? Not sure really, but thought I'd comment here as I feel the pain of those still trying. Never cleared my cache, have played on multiple difficulties. It popped during a casual play through. Good luck to anyone still looking for this.

Still an issue as of 6/28/2023 and one that will never get a fix due to the age of this game. I will attempt various methods and see if I can get it to unlock for myself. As a side note, it's nice to see the "-buggy" flag being used properly for once

UPDATE 6/30/2023:
I do not know what fixed this achievement for me, however, I have a theory on how to get it to unlock, as well as a list of every step I did to get it to pop.

Not counting my original playthrough of this game back in 2016/2017, my total amount of times running through this game came down to three. Twice online on the Xbox One, and once offline on the Xbox 360.

Things I did in preparation for my third playthrough:
Cleared cache.
Fully "deleted" my profile and items off of the 360 console and redownloaded them.
Deleted every checkpoint save related to the game as well as the game itself.
Played the game without the 4MB update.
Played through the entire campaign without skipping any cutscenes.

For my playthrough I chose the "training path" at the beginning of the game as recommended by many. My achievement did not unlock after defeating RAAM at the end of the game. Upon finishing the entire game and after allowing myself to skip the credits, I played through the RAAM fight again. Nothing, no achievement. I then played through the first mission and chose "training path" again. Still no achievement. Played through the first mission again, this time choosing the "combat path". No achievement. This is where I assumed I would have no luck getting it to pop, however, I decided to play through the game's final checkpoint one last time. I loaded it up and killed RAAM again. Boom. Achievement popped during the final cutscenes, and I let out a sigh of relief.

My theory:
As stated by many others it is likely that the "training path" counts as its own mission, however I believe the "combat path" also needs to be completed and is a requirement for this achievement to unlock. I also believe that finishing the game's final checkpoint (beating RAAM) is what triggers the achievement to unlock. This is why it popped for me after finishing the "combat path" and going straight into the RAAM fight, forcing a "refresh" of sorts, thus triggering the unlock.

I have no idea if playing this game in offline mode on the 360 console without updates installed had any effect on the achievement unlocking, but seeing as I didn't want to waste any more of my time with unnecessary playthroughs, I pulled out all the stops. I hope this longwinded explanation of how I got it to unlock helps at least one person out.

Alright this is to try and help those who didn't get this achievement.
While searching for solutions I came upon a couple.
1. Do the tutorial at the very beginning of the game.(This is what I read, didn't really work for me.)
2. When you join a game it doesn't automatically let you control Dom, so I think there is a certain time limit that you have to start controlling him. I remember my second time joining my friend I watched him run up some stairs before I took control of Dom.

This next one isn't really a solution, but more of a tip to try and help you narrow down what it didn't count so you don't have to play the whole game again if you don't want to. Also this only really helps if you started at the beginning and have never played the story mode before as Don. If you don't get Domination right after chapter 10 then you missed one of the beginning chapters. I didn't pay attention to this my first play through but I remembered where I was when I got Domination.

Hopefully this helps the ones that didn't get this when they thought they should like me.

I've read a lot of comments regarding this being glitched, so I'm going to post a straightforward, detailed account of how I got it and the exact order in which I did it...

I played through once on Casual and once on Hardcore, occasionally with some help over Xbox Live but often in single player.

I played a few chapters online by joining someone else's campaign as Dom. This also means that I'd applied the latest update. I never cleared cache.

Using a local, non-Gold profile, I started a new campaign on Casual. I set the game to split-screen and joined as Dom using my target Xbox Live Gold account on the same Xbox. I played through using the two accounts from the beginning. I chose the "training" option in the prison. I didn't play all the way through the game in one sitting. I stopped at times, saved, and turned off the Xbox. However, after starting the campaign, I never did ANYTHING else with either account (and I suspect this is significant). I would sign in the local profile, start GoW, split-screen, continue campaign, sign in the target profile, and proceed. Somewhere in the middle of a chapter (not the end, oddly) I got the "Domination" achievement. At the very end, as General RAAM falls over due to one too many bullets to the face, the achievement popped. One playthrough.

Note: This was my 3rd playthrough and I'd pretty well gotten the hang of the game, so it was surprisingly easy with one person using two controllers on Casual. I needed a 2nd person for the first berserker (but not the second). The part where you chase a flaming car? As long as one player gets to the bottom then you're fine. The game says you died because the 2nd player didn't make it, but because the 1st player made it when the game "restarts at the last checkpoint", you've made it to the gas station (the next checkpoint).
From towards the end of the 4th Act to the end, I had a 2nd person manning the second controller so I can't say how badly you need two people. I suspect you can't kill RAAM with only one person.

I struggled for a long time with this achievement. Played through the game 6 or 7 times in co-op trying different settings, different consoles, split-screen or online, etc. Absolutely nothing worked for me.

What finally unlocked this bastard of an achievement was to take my console offline (disconnected entirely from the internet) and replay the very last checkpoint in Act 5. After beating Raam the achievement unlocked in the credits.

For anyone struggling to unlock this, I will detail what I did to potentially save you the 3 weeks of frustration like me. First credit to the guides above for the tips, there is not much else on the internet so follow those tips if you can!

I had done some of the game 10 years ago then went back to finish some of the achievements this last month. I had already beaten the game solo on Casual and Hardcore. I possibly had played some co-op online but I could not remember.

*The whole campaign is possible to do by yourself in co-op mode, some spots may take more practice than others!*

1st Play through as Dom I played on Casual and was simultaneously collecting all 30 COG tags (which does not matter as far as I can tell.) Started a new campaign with another local xbox live profile on my xbox, my target profile as Dom. I did the training at the beginning and did not skip any cut-scenes. My character as Dom at points did "skip" ahead when a checkpoint occurred but I played with him almost all the time so Marcus was "skipping" ahead. I got "Domination" on this playthrough but not "I Cant't Quit You Dom" after defeating General RAAM.

2nd Play through as Dom I played on Casual again. Started a new campaign with a different local non-xbox live profile on my xbox. I did not do the training this time through. I made sure my Dom character never "skipped" through any checkpoints. I did not skip any cut-scenes and chose the opposite paths during the campaign than my first time through. Again, I got nothing after defeating General RAAM.

Being frustrated, I went back and beat the whole campaign solo on Insane because I had not done that yet. (Again, not sure if that matters or not)

3rd Play through as Dom I played on Hardcore this time. After just beating the game on Insane, Hardcore really was nothing. I started a new campaign with the same non-xboxlive profile I used in my second play through. I did do the training this time. My character Dom did "skip" ahead through checkpoints a couple times. I skipped almost all the cut-scenes. When the paths came up, I picked the ones I liked best. After defeating General RAAM, "I Can't Quit You Dom" popped up on my screen.

I am not sure what makes this achievement pop, (3 play throughs, playing on Hardcore, skipping cut-scenes, idk..) Also I never cleared my cache or did anything else on my xbox or Gears after starting up a co-op campaign. Hopefully that helps anyone still struggling with this!

In order to play as Dom in co-op you must join someone's game. If you host it you will play as Marcus. There is no way to see which ones you have done as Dom, so your best course of action would be to start from Chapter 1, Act 1 and play all the way through on Casual. It won't take more than 3-4 hours.
