!!! Since title update 7.3 the gnomes need to be added to a players Central Spire attack team as apposed to the PvP defence team in order for you to fight them. !!!
This is almost a copy paste solution of what I wrote for the cursed gnomes
Method 1: Obtain the gnome yourself.
I got this by unlocking the Dragonite Gnome troop as a reward for beating Cedric in the Gnome Vault battle which either requires an epic or regular vault key to start.
Once the gnome has been obtained I set it in my PvP defence team and beat it 10 times.
Method 2.1: Ask politely in global chat 001 if someone can set it as their PvP defence. Press
on their name - view profile - fight. Repeat until the achievement unlocks.
Method 2.2: Find someone in PvP who has the gnome In their defence team and beat them 10 times. (You can use casual battles and scout teams by paying 50 gold then a further 50 gold to refresh fights until you find the troop in a team. This should become easier over time as not many people will have unlocked the troop yet. Generally the troop in the battle image of the team will indicate if it’s worth scouting or not. If the troop displayed is a gnome go for it. If it’s anything else don’t bother. Worth noting Having VIP Level 3 unlocks free scouting so you won’t have this problem.
Method 3: Encounter the gnome 10 times as a battle crasher either in explore or PvP battles.

Thanks for the heads up Hardy, you can also get cursed gnomes if you don't have them already. There are 1 of each so just win 10 times (unless they run away, but it still shouldn't take too long)
