A multiplayer duel is a best out of five game, so if you are boosting (and you will be with the online dead) you get 3 wins in one match.
The wins might count in player matches as well, but i can't verify that as i got the achievement in ranked.
Now the important reason i am writing this is to ease the minds of all those that are worrying about the glitchy tag on this achievement.
When my boosting partner didn't get the achievement after 50 wins on one map we tried doing one win on another map and it gave him the achievement, so if you don't get it on your 50th win just try it on another map.

I double boxed this and multiple times it only counted 2 wins out of 3. I figured out once the final game was over, if I quit with my account first it wouldn't count, but if my guest quit first it counted as 3 out of 3 wins every time.
Maybe this is what causes issues for people. You can check your progress at the main menu by pressing Y.

Seems like a good idea for the person losing to still get 3-4 goals, for points toward the 5 million total achievement. You can easily do that without slowing the winning player down at all.
This is definitely glitchy on how it counts wins for sure. Seems like it's a good idea for the person winning the match to wait about 10 seconds or so on the match end screen before pushing B to exit. Every time I've done that all 3 wins have counted.

The best map for boosting 50 wins is easily "Exergy 1". The map is small, has no loop-the-loops, & a simple layout to easily see where your remaining pellets are.
