Your first playthrough should be on EASY mode and get all the souls and geek items using this guide from EZSPECIAL: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=70204...
On EASY you get familiar with the game and getting all the souls will net you several achievements AND a special suit called Dragoon Frame which will travel over when you start a new Classic run on HARD in a new save slot or when you start a Survival Mode game in a new save slot.
I strongly recommend you go for this achievement also on this EASY run:

and also this while you're at it:
