How to unlock the Arsonist achievement in Ghost of a Tale - Definitive Guide
There are four easy to miss purple banners that could just be the one you are missing:
- The purple banner hanging above the double doors in the courtyard. You need to throw a pine cone at it to set it on fire.
- The purple banner in the jail, next to the drawbridge. This banner looks half-burned already due to it's position above the burning brazier. However you need a pine cone to set it on fire.
- The purple banner in the kitchen pantry, which you can only access using a key during or after a specific main story quest. The game wouldn't let me light this banner with the candle, so I had to use a pine cone here too.
- The purple banner in the catacombs. It can be easy to miss, it's in the same area as the giant worms, directly opposite to one of the collectible vases for Duinlan.
Here are my tips for this achievement:
- You can still find and light all the banners just before the finale of the game, which takes place after an ominous chest is opened in the shore area. Just don't go back to that chest again until you are ready.
- There are also banners in the areas surrounding the actual main keep, notably the harbour, the catacombs, and the sewers.
- It's advisable to burn the purple banners when you first come across them otherwise you may forget later.
- You can tell which ones you have already burned as there will still be a sliver of purple banner remaining.
- On one occasion, I burned a purple banner in the barracks (where the guards are sleeping on the beds and there are footlockers for a side quest) and then died. I returned to burn them again but one of the banners was still burned even though I had reloaded my save. If this happens to you, the banner will eventually 'regenerate' so that you can actually light it again properly. Come back later for that banner.
- As far as I know you do not need to light any candles, sconces, bushes, vines, or spiderwebs for this achievement - just purple banners. However lighting all the other things is either useful, or required for another achievement anyway so you may as well.

For these I didn't need to use a pine cone but only the candle. Here is how:
- The purple banner hanging above the double doors in the courtyard. You need to throw a pine cone at it to set it on fire.
Actually you can jump on the left door from the stairs (next to the piece of armour). From the door, just jump towards the banner and promptly press X and this should work.
- The purple banner in the jail, next to the drawbridge. This banner looks half-burned already due to it's position above the burning brazier. However you need a pine cone to set it on fire.
For this one, I jumped from the stand next to the banner and press X while in air.

I wish this game had some sort of tracker to let you know how close you are. I've got most of them but I'm still missing at least 2 or 3.
