How to unlock the Gozer's Most Wanted achievement in Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Definitive Guide

You must successfully complete each job type on their respective locations. Failure in the job mission does not count towards this achievement.

EDIT:

After experimenting another booster and I determined the win conditions. You MUST meet these to clear the stage (you will get "Victory!" and not "Round Over" or "Failure". If you do not get Victory you did not clear the map successfully).

Containment: You must clear all the ghosts. The number of ghosts to clear is determined by number of players times 5 plus 5. So for example with two players you need to capture 15 ghosts. It's best that both players equip the slime blower and tether the first 10 ghosts into the traps. (Edit: I'm getting some messages that some people 4 with players only need 20 ghosts. I'll do some experimenting to verify.)

Containment maps: reading room, basement stacks, twisted stacks, streets, office, rooftops, Rotunda, Mayan, Egypt, cemetery, altar, and Lost Island.

Destruction: You must destroy EVERY spawning totem. Once the last one clears the round will end. Time running out means you failed.

Destruction maps: reading room, office, Rotunda, Mayan, cemetery, and Lost Island.

Protection: You must allow all three PKE towers to extend (100%).

Protection maps: streets, office, rooftops, Rotunda, Egypt, and cemetery.

Slime Dunk: Earn first place over all.

Slime dunk maps: basement stacks, twisted stacks, rooftops, Egypt, altar, and Lost Island.

Survival: Clear all 10 waves of ghosts/ghouls/baddies. The icon in the upper left corner of your screen displayed the previously completed wave. Remember, with later waves you want to go after the big guys (i.e. golems). They spawn the little creatures. Destroy the golem and all its spawnlings go away too.

Survival maps: reading room, basement stacks, twisted stacks, streets, office, rooftops, Rotunda, Mayan, Egypt, cemetery, altar, and Lost Island

Thief: You need at least ONE artifact to remain when time expires.

Thieves maps: reading room, basement stacks, twisted stacks, streets, Mayan, and altar.

What's a Venkman Victory? Is this something I haven't come across yet?

EH, just a term that is being throw around. It basically means doing the bare minimum without failing. Just like Venkman would.

Nope, you need at least one saved when the clock expires for a win.

Just noticed your math on Containment is wrong. Yes, it is 15 ghosts for 2 people, however, according to the formula you have in the guide, (2*5)+10=20.

The requirements are way too crazy. I haven't even been in first on a single Slime Dunk map. I've never seen a containment map cleared.

i can confirm for 4 players in containment it is 20 ghosts

By Doctor Mantis on 28 Feb 2010 07:05
That is partially incorrect. You do not need all four artifacts. I have tested this and it works as long as one artifact remains. You do not receive different victory messages for 1,2,3, or 4 artifacts remaining. I have heard nothing of players leaving or dropping the match. I can't say I've had an issue with this so I can only take your word on that, however the Thief artifacts I have tested and can confirm you need at least one artifact remaining when time expires.

Ranked. Just win slime dunk, doesn't matter. It is glitchy.

This achievement, despite the other online ones, is NOT glitchy at all. I unlocked it yesterday with my buddy. We have taken record of everything we have done. We cleared all containment maps (15 ghosts), survived all 10 rounds, cleared thief with at least one artifact remaining, destroyed all relics on destuction, protected every PKE meter and each of us has won slime dunk. Each game type of course on every available map. It is hard but doable with a good partner. I would advise to do it with only 2 people, as the rounds of survival and containment are easier. :-)

I appreciate the guide, thumbs up! I have a question for you, the only matches where you actually have to be 1st are in slime dunk? So the rest you just need to achieve "victory" but don't have to be 1st? Is that correct?

Don't forget people quitting during a match will also mess this up, I'd also recommend not using any DLC (Gold Proton Pack, Skins, etc.) Keep track of what Jobs/Maps you've done, if it doesn't pop, redo them starting with the easy ones first. You can work towards it with Campaigns, but I'd recommend doing Instant games instead. Wouldn't recommend trying this with randoms.

This achievement isn't glitched, but it is a pain to get, for so many reasons.

I kept track of everything and this popped for me upon completing my final Survival in the last necessary map. I did not, however, get first place on every map in Slime Dunk. Of the six maps, I won the first three (for Wee Slimer) and let my partner win the next three, then ended up playing on each map once more and letting my partner win them all to get up to 20 points on each map for Polar Slimer.

I can see when people vote negatively. Unless you did it months ago, then I know it wasn't you.

People have been researching the topic from day 1. My solution is the best to actually get the achievement but YMMV. I have Egon's Guinuea Pig and Gozer's Most Wanted -- that may not mesh well with your research. I have been researching this issue since day 1, you can find an archive of all my posts over at X360A.

It isn't a surprise to anyone that the game is broken, but again this achievement is very much a YMMV situation.

This is my last achievement. I had a list, Did everything, victory, 3PKE fully raised, 20 ghosts, at least 1 relic, all slime dunks in first... wtf. no achievement. This is my last one. I've tried this forever. I have close to 15 million, just from instants online going for this, yet no achievement yet. any tips or pointers you've heard from anyone else?

Yup. Great guide, but I'm also having the same issue as the last few posters. I have my painstakingly completed list, but no achievement. I didn't pay attention as to whether people left during any of the matches however. If that's the only reason it didn't pop, then screw Atari and Terminal Reality. But seriously, nice guide.

Add another person to the list with only one left (once I get the Most Wanted ghosts anyway). Just like everyone else I completed all Protections, Survived every wave on every map, 1st on Slime Dunk, completed every Containment, all relics on every map in Destruction were knocked out, and passed all levels of Thief with at least one relic remaining.

One thing I noticed though was when I completed a game of Slime Dunk in first it still said Round Over, not Victory like every other game type when you win. Could this be what is glitching people?

When I wrote this solution, way back in the day, you needed to get "Victory" for the achievement to unlock. We playtested it that much.

Since then a patch has been released that may have changed the conditions.

Save Reading Room Destruction for last. On the last wave you have to destroy the two relics on the bridge first, then the one in the back away from where you spawn. Otherwise, the ads will kill you.

You need to play with a pros. It's probably easiest with one other solid person. Use slime tethering, saves huge amounts of time.

By dropK1CK ninJA on 27 Jun 2009 03:00
You don't need to save all four relics. You only need one. You need victory. That means capture all the ghosts (containment), surviving all rounds (survival), etc etc. You can't just finish it, you have to WIN it. Also don't forget the slime dunks.

From all of my research it comes down to getting either "Gozers Most Wanted" or "Payday". "Egon's Guinea Pig" might fall into this as well, but you can't get them all. This is the glitch. For some reason getting one achievement makes another impossible to get. Everyone that claims the achievement isn't glitched doesn't have "Payday" or something else that is easy. If you don't believe me check the profiles of the comments above for yourself. The game is forever broken people, and Atari is never going to fix it. Try for yourself if you like. I'm just trying to save a few people alot of wasted time. Also, I didn't give you a thumbs down. Don't assume things.

So the hardest parts of this for me were...Containment on Twisted Stacks, just had to keep the guys from going around all of the pillars and crap.

Survival on Reading Room - Wave 9 sucks. You have to get the couple fat and couple drunk guys that multiply fast. Best with everyone having green during wave 8 and then slime dunking them all in traps as fast as possible.

PKE on Cemetery - The big guy doesn't follow you around like all of the others...so have at least 3 people, and during the first two rounds pick up everything not blue, and start with blue. Do the normal, hold onto ghost thing for the second round, and then when the big guy spawns. Hold the left trigger on him. when you get to 1, have someone else take over, never letting him unfreeze, then let the 3rd person take over. Always have 2 people standing by the Golem, and 1 person running for more Blue. As long as you have 3 blues and 3 people, you can get him with him never moving.

Good luck guys!

I was wondering that as well about Slime Dunk. Can you only get "Round Over" for it? So to get it completed you have to get 1st place and "Round Over" or is there a way to get a "Victory"?

Hey guys, I did choose my buddy is PaltryTunic7270 but I did it was so tough for me. He did on 1st Place and then I did on 2nd Place at the same time I guess. We did go to campaign yesterday and 2 days ago, and then today, we did go to campaign is Time Square for the first level on streets is Containment. He choose a slime and I choose a statis and finally, the first level on Containment is complete on victory and I got the achievement unlocked is Gozer's Most Wanted. I saw the achievement/trophy. I am so happy because I got one more achievement left is Payday!. I hope this works on this too I guess. Right? I got it finally I did it.

As of 9/2/22 Online does work for this game. Based on other comments I have seen around the web achievements are working and the bugged ones may have been fixed with a patch. Some friends and I are going to work on these. Once we can confirm if everything works, I will update here.

As of now though the online portion of this game does work. There are almost no players online.

Also as a side note... if you have not played since Xbox360, this game is backwards compatible. If you start the game up on a newer console it will pull your cloud save if you have one there.

When you load the game up on a newer console it will tell you that it is going to overwrite your save data. THIS DOES NOT DELETE YOUR SAVE. It upgrades the save file for use on the newer consoles. If you still want to go back and play on the 360 then you will need to export the save (copy it) to a USB device from your 360.

Happy hunting!

My friend has the same problem as Lushion Rudd and undergr3nades - he has a 985 and he can't unlock Gozer's Most Wanted either. I think one of the single player achievements must somehow disable it. Payday and No Job To Big were glitched before the patch and still are if you played pre-patch. It's not that far of a stretch to imagine Terminal Reality botch another multiplayer achievement. By the way, great guide.

That's four people now who have a 985 that can not unlock Gozer's Most Wanted. Another friend of mine had a 790 on this game & it popped for him just fine three days ago. Not sure if this helps but the achievements he still hasn't popped yet are: Are You A God?, Stasis Dunk!, The Destructor, Nice Shootin', Tex! & It's Slime Time. Also not sure whether one of these achievements disables Gozer's Most Wanted or having all the achievements combined (the 985 score) disables it but something does disable it at some point. Either way, I would recommend going for ALL the multiplayer achievements first. Good luck.

I can confirm what undergr3nades and others posted above which is this achievement will glitch if it is your last one in the game (49/50; 985 gs). After finishing all the campaign achievements, I unlocked all the other MP achievements just fine and proceeded to complete the entire job list for Gozer's with a group of 4, all post-patch. I was the only person not to unlock Gozer's. Two people in the group had all the campaign achievements complete, except for Nice Shootin' Tex! which was purposely left alone until MP was complete (credit to Das Kuhnen for the idea). Sure enough Gozer's popped for them as expected. A side note - we also had several disconnects and host migrations and the victories on those maps did count with no need to replay.

As yours is the top rated solution, it would be incredibly helpful to add a warning to your guide that this achievement can glitch if it is your final one. I glanced at this guide before playing the MP, but thinking Payday and No Job were the only glitchy ones, I did not read the above comments describing the situation I eventually encountered. I blame no one but myself for not thoroughly researching this issue, and this is not meant to be a criticism of your solution which is valid and well written. Rather, in my opinion, having a warning near the top of your guide would be a great benefit to the TA community, especially considering the renewed interest in this game following rumor of server closures.

Here's some information I'd like to share with the TA community based on my experience with the multiplayer portion of this game.

While going for the 'Gozer's Most Wanted' achievement, you should get this achievement along the way:
Ghostbusters: The Video GameOverachieverThe Overachiever achievement in Ghostbusters: The Video Game worth 105 pointsGet over $2,500,000 in Xbox LIVE, over 30 post-job awards, 50 jobs completed.

You don't need to try for 'Overachiever', it'll come naturally, but do keep track of each unique post-job award you acquire, so you know when you reach 30.

Key Points
- Always play 'Ranked' matches.
- 'Instant Action' will work for these.
- The difficulty scales based on the number of players you have in the match. Complete the matches with the minimum of 2 players, you and one other person, to ensure easier victories.
- You need to see 'VICTORY' at the end of a match, for it to count towards your achievement progression.
- It does not matter who the host is. As long as the job ends in a 'Victory' and its 'Ranked, then it'll count towards your progression.

Below is a link to a checklist I've created, to help you track your progression for 'Gozer's Most Wanted'.

This solution is all about tips to actually complete the jobs when going for Gozer's Most Wanted.

After playing way too many games with randoms (and even some who have played extensively), I have found that a lot of people have virtually no idea what they're doing when it comes to actually completing the jobs. So, with that said, I've made up a list of tips covering most of the problems I've seen in all of the games I've played.

1) When playing Containment, Slime Dunking (tethering) is almost a necessity in order to capture the ghosts in a timely fashion.

2) If you see someone with a tethered ghost, DO NOT shoot the ghost! It destroys the tether and costs the team a lot of valuable time.

2) On Destruction levels, you should never have to throw your trap out or even capture/kill a ghost. These jobs are all about taking out the spawn totems as fast as possible. When a spawn totem is destroyed, all of the ghosts that came out of it are destroyed as well.

3) On Destruction levels, the spawn totems appear in pretty much the same pattern every time, so if you don't get through them, just keep trying with another competent player and you'll knock these out in no time.

4) Another Destruction tip...pay attention to your weapon choices. The Stasis Beam (blue) is amazing up close and can take out a green spawn totem in two shots. The...yellow blaster, lol...is what you want to use for the spawn totems that are in the distance and can be destroyed in about five or six shots.
Slime is virtually useless, but can be extremely useful in one instance: If a ghost is sitting on the spawn totem where you can't damage the totem, quickly switch to your slime, tether the ghost, then just tether it away from the nest somewhere like the ground. This will not only pull the ghost off of the spawn totem, but will daze them too...giving you plenty of time to switch back to your other packs to take out the nest.

The Proton Accelerator is badass on Destruction levels as well. This thing can just shred through the spawn totems in no time. You only have it for a limited time, so make the most of it.

5) On Survival levels, there's no time limit, nor are there any unlimited spawning ghosts, so take your time, know the ghosts' weaknesses, and you'll get through these without much of a problem. Slime dunk if you can. When you have to fight the big bosses, they're fairly easy to get away from when fighting them. Usually they'll come up to you, pause, then lunge at you. When they do this, either run right past them, or just hit the dodge button and jump away to the side. Usually the only things that give players fits are the little hoards of candlestick crawlers.

6) Thief levels are some of the easiest to do since there's a time limit and you only have to have 1 remaining when time runs out. You do that and you're golden.

7) Protection levels can seem like a nightmare at times, especially on the 3rd tower, but they can be fairly manageable if you can get one person to lure the main monster away from the tower and the other stays nearby to pick off any of the little baddies it sends out. The little guys will always go for the tower. The main monster will go for the tower as well, but can be lured away. What you don't want to do is have all of your players waiting at the tower or you're just asking to lose because not only will you have the little guys there, but the main monster as well.

8) On the Cemetery Protection level, it seems that if you get the 3rd tower to appear at the top of the hill, the little ghosts/skulls the boss shoots out can get under the map somehow and continuously attack the tower. If this happens, just keep looking at the ground around it and the lock-on signal will appear. Grab it and smash it quickly!
If you can manage to have any of the Stasis Beam (blue) when the 3rd round comes up, especially on the Cemetery level, use the Stasis Stream to freeze the huge boss and it should be a breeze finishing up the level.

9) Pay attention to when your partners go down and get them up ASAP, especially on the levels with a time limit. If it's a Survival level, depending on your situation, you may be able to just let them time out and return. Sometimes it's safer to run than to go dive into whatever mess just took out your teammate.

10) Some jobs are easier with two people rather than a group, but this mostly depends on the skill of the players in the group or the level. It's hard to get a group of randoms that know what they're doing, so maybe doing most of these with another skilled player is all you need to do.

Hope this helps some.:)
