Go Mecha Ball

After finishing each level (several waves), you'll get to choose from three upgrades. Choose the EMP when offered (random), then get at least four enemies near you and hit RB to trigger the EMP. It recharges after around 7 seconds so you can keep trying as needed. It sends a decent sized sphere pulse around you so it's a bit forgiving. I got it within two waves of receiving the EMP.
