How to unlock the Homerunner achievement in Gone Home: Edition - Definitive Guide

To do this, you must do only a few necessary tasks to complete the story. As quickly as possible, skip the intro. From the start, grab the key under the duck in the drawer to enter the house. Go into the secret room to the right of the stairs to get the attic key. Go upstairs, open the attic, go up and interact with the book at the end of the attic. There isn't very much room for error, so this may take a few tries. View this video for a better look at a quick path:

If doing this during your first playthrough, you will also unlock:

Check that the achievement isn't stuck at Done! Unlocking... Might just be taking a while to sync to your gamer-tag.

This achievement appears to be glitched, I've done it in 56-57 seconds as well and no achievement. Maybe its glitches for some people and can unlock for others? The achievement itself doesn't seem very stable at the moment, so either keep trying or re install the game and delete saved data on it that forced an achievement unlock for me in assassins creed unity and it worked after i had done the requirements for the achievement many times. Anyways, best of luck to anyone trying to get it at the moment, hopefully it will unlock for anyone going for it.

I think the time is just so close that it has to be an absolutely perfect run. I got it to unlock after I turned the brightness all the way up in the settings. I think I may have been bumping into walls slowing me down just enough to go over the time limit.

I spam b to start but it's so laggy I don't know if it even saves time. The door is super picky and glitchy, and then the key is a slight lag. Also clicking the attic right and finally the book. All these seem to take just enough toll, that it never unlocked after around 20 attempts. I timed myself and definitely was under a min from the start unless loading counts.

Spam B at the start and end. It literally needs to be a perfect run thought I should have had it on a couple of runs but I got it on my 7th. Knew it was a perfect run after I did it.

Try letting the credits roll through to the end if you're still having trouble getting the achievement to pop

To the people having problems getting this achievement. It will NOT unlock if you mess with the modifiers & commentary options. Also if use stop watch on your phone to keep track of time. If after all that and still no achievement? Close game completely out and start it up again with a fresh run thru. It took me doing the close out and restart for it to actually work.

Why in the hell would spamming B at the end do anything to help us earn the achievement? At the beginning it makes sense, but at the end, the book still has to fully open and then fade to black. Maka shows opening the book at :58 and I have done it multiple times@ 56 and 57 seconds. What gives?

PackersOwner88 method worked for me too, I'd done it at least once in less than 1 minute and no achievement had popped after skipping the credits, so I closed & re-launched the game just in case, run it in just less than a minute and let the credits run; the achievement popped when I got back to the main menu.

I tried to get this achievement probably around 20 times before I finally got it. I skipped the beginning by hitting B a number of times, quickly making it to the end and let the credits roll (3-4 minutes) when they finished the achievement popped! My timer said 1 minutes and 2 seconds but that seemed like it worked. I sometimes wonder if the preview builder (yes I am a preview member so I receive beta versions of the dashboard prior to public release) might be causing an already glitched achievement to be worse? just a thought. Thanks everyone!

This also took me a lot of tries. I ended up deleting my local save then taking my Xbox offline to avoid the cloud save coming back.

Even after that it still took 2 or 3 tries. On the last attempt I skipped the end credits and the achievement didn't pop. I then went back into settings to get back online and as soon as I got online the achievement popped. Weird.

After many attempts at this 1 year on I have attempted yet again, this time I used RT instead of A button, I unlocked 1st attempt. Happy days!!!. Skip beginning & end. With the duck I quickly double tapped RT so I quickly picked key up, this saved me crucial time.

It has something to do with the loading screen in the beginning. I have done a few perfect runs and can't get it to pop. Very annoying. U can go into settings and change the crouch to hold rather than toggle, that helps with mashing B to get past the loading screen as quick as possible without starting in a crouch.

I watched the video here and Maka watched the credits then got it to pop at the home screen. So I once again did a perfect run then let the credits roll until it went to the home screen on its own. Then the cheev popped. Glitchy for sure, but the credits may help it to unlock when a near perfect run is done.

So since it's gwg now, Here's how i got to Unlock it. Restart your game after every try. Tried it multiple times. But only got it once I Quit and restarted the game. Rest of the tips. Use Rt instead of a. Put hold to crouch on.

The achievement unlocked perfectly. What I did:
- Launch the game for the first time.
- Adjust setting (Graphics: Adjust Brightness to the right and Controls: Crouch Style to Hold).
- Starting the game. 3 failed attempts. Every time saving and quiting back to the main menu to try again on an new game.
- Run 4 was a good one, but I spammed B too late (the dev logo was on screen for some frames). Run was still good and watched the credits.
- The achievement popped first before the finish the game achievement on the main menu.

Tip: spam A on all items you will interact with!

Glitchy? Yes, but you don't have to wait for the credits. After doing several good runs where I sat there and watched the credits, I finally got mad and just tried mashing B right after I hit the diary at the end, and it popped. It wasn't even a great run either so I was kinda surprised. Really glad I didn't have to listen to that truly awful song for the 15th time (seriously, did a deaf person tune their guitars and tell the singer she had a good voice?!).

3. Poped AFTER the game goes to the main menue

Done. Don't see the problem

1) Restart the game.
2) Maximise the brightness & toggle crouch to hold.
3) During the loading cassette, mine freezes for a for seconds, after which bash B until you can move.
4) I used Right Trigger for all interactions, except the door under the stairs & used A (for some reason the door kept getting stuck with the trigger).
5) Credits - waited until Sam finished speaking & Gone Home had faded, then quit the credits.
6) Popped in the Main Menu shortly afterwards.

Hey guys. I tried to do this achievement a few times with no luck. Then I remembered a trick with switching profiles, that unlocks glitched achievement in Destiny. So I did the same:
1. switched my profile to another
2. switched back to my profile
3. run the game under 1min another time
Alt. 4. skip the credits.
This time achievement popped out at the first run! Even though I skipped the credits. Give it a try if you still have problems.

I got it on my 3rd full attempt (meaning, I didn't abort the run early because I didn't like the way it was heading.) My 3 biggest tips are: 1) Turn Brightness all the way up for better vision. 2) Spam A button when grabbing the duck & key (it can be done all in one smooth, fluid motion and faster than you think it can). 3) Allow the credits to play out. My achievement popped on the main menu.

I thought this was going to be brutal but it wasn't bad at all.

no doubt this is the fix. nothing with credits, its all about exiting the game and doing a fresh run, when i say exit, i mean dashboard.

i didnt do anything special, i hit B to skip opening scene, and spammed B at the end to skip, i dont think this does anything at the end, its all about a fresh run after dashboarding.

Yeah, I had to "watch" the credits before it popped, did a couple tries pressing B at the credits, but I guess that just puts you to the main menu in the "current" game, I guess after you skip the intro, as long as you manage to do the main part in less than a minute, wait for the credits to finish, then it should pop.

Finally got it to pop after successfully doing it about 9 or 10 times. Tried some of the tips on here. I watched the credits to the end when mine popped. Who knows if that's actually the answer though. I had done so a couple of times previously and it hadn't popped. Just keep at it and you'll get it.

Never did watch the credits. Did force quit and restart, but took an additional 3 runs. The one where it popped I thought I was screwed because I couldn't get the book to register at the end--had to move and hit A 3 times. I thought for sure that was a bad run, and I'm certain it was slower than others I had done. So, yeah, a bit buggy.

I know this sounds crazy, but my achievement unlocked upon uninstalling the game. I tried everything before that. Timed runs that were below 60 seconds, deleting local save, skipping credits, watching credits. I use the Xbox app on my phone to alert me when I get an achievement, just in case it doesn't pop on screen and lo and behold as soon as I deleted the game, the message appeared on my phone that it unlocked.

If a developer is going to create achievements based on in game statistics, they should give the player an ability to check said statistics. Far too many games have achievements like this with no true way for the player to know if they missed the needed stats or the achievement is glitch. It is way too simple to put a stats page in game, in this case showing the fastest completion, for developers to keep leaving us guessing.

As others have said: turn brightness all the way up in settings, change crouch to hold, quit to dashboard and quit and restart game after each run. I let the credits roll and it popped, but I think quitting each time is more important. Good luck!

francthetank23: Just to note - "I thot the achievement was glitched. It isn't! Trust me on that. Here is what I did differently: (1) delete old saves,"

if you have to delete old saves, as many of us did, it is indeed glitched. This is pretty much the definition of glitched.

Aside from turning the brightness up and switching the crouch to hold, I recommend turning the "look sensitivity" in the controls menu to max setting. This is because your character moves the fastest when you are looking in that direction, rather than moving sideways. It took me a few tries, but I got it and can confirm you do not have to watch the credits to unlock the achievement. Hope this helps!

I managed to get this on my fourth attempt; skipped the intro and after the logo fades at the credits! Much like others have said before me, max the brightness, increase the sensitivity, switch crouch to hold and avoid straffing… I found this video a little dark so I’d recommend watching The Norda’s as well! headspin

Had a lot of trouble with this buggy achievement. Finished the game in under a minute about 10 times before it finally unlocked - after the awful song and credits, about 10 seconds later at the title screen.

I made all the recommended in game adjustments. On my fourth go (I let the credits play through fully, the only time I've ever done this) and it popped. I was attempting this achievement months ago and have never quit out or deleted any saves, not once. One thing that did feel different on this go was my ability to select the book in the attic when I was a few steps back. Usually I'm overlooking the book. The crosshair went over on my approach and I clicked it. Good luck everyone.

Horrendous achievement, finally got it today by mapping A to my right trigger and B to right bumper, so I wouldn't have to take my hands off the thumbsticks. Approaching the outside cabinet at an angle meant i could 'triple click' the right trigger, making getting the key super fast. The only time I pushed the 'A' button instead of the trigger was on the secret panel, because as others have said it's mega glitchy. I let the credits run, for what it's worth. I think there's a lot of people speculating what might/might not make this one pop, I think ultimately there's an unfortunate amount of luck involved with this one.

After many many attempts, I found that not strafing at all (side stepping using left stick) works. I passed straight away after doing just one run through by not allowing my left stick to move from exactly upwards. Only use right stick to turn. It keeps your walking speed up. This worked for me anyway.

Thanks for the video and the tip! Here's my extra bit - if navigating to the attic is proving to be a bit difficult, you can go into the options and adjust the brightness to max. It makes it a lot easier to find your way and you still unlock the achievement - that's what just worked for me!

If you are having problems with unlocking it and you are sure you are under 60 seconds, just leave credits to go after beating the game.
I did it under 1 minute and watched whole credits afterwards and when game came back to main menu it popped.

Upvoted. Just got this. After many many failed attempts the one thing I did differently was to make sure I desperately spam B while the game is loading up at the beginning. As I think the timer starts before you gain control. While that tape is showing spam B making sure u don't press it too many times otherwise you'll start the game in a crouch. Then do your best perfect Run. You should know what that is by now. You can safely skip credits I can confirm that again.

^ First off that's an awesome Gamertag haha and yeah that song sucks... I did that a few times as well with mashing B but no success. It might be just dumb luck that watching the credits worked for me. I guess it's just a glitchy piece of crap that unlocks whenever it wants to.

For the record, I think the actual “fix” for this is reloading the game. Watching credits or not doesn’t seem to matter, brightness helps but didn’t unlock it, same with changing the B button to hold...I tried everything and nothing worked until I reloaded the game and nailed the timing on my first try. Reload the game after every try.

Great guide as always, Maka!

THANK YOU to all the comments. Let me give you my story...

I tried a few times. practice runs. wasn't going well. got serious on a couple runs - couldn't get it.

came and read these comments and did this: i adjusted the crouch to hold and started using the trigger to pick items up and a got a lot of extra milliseconds back there... i also started quitting out of the game fully and reloading.

but i kept getting hung up on the secret door! couple more fails. (going all the way through)

after a couple more restarts (i started restarting the game if i failed at the secret door), i got to a run where i missed the secret door by just a split second. but for some reason, on this play-through, i just kept going. i make it to the top of the stairs on the final word "...wait", but felt i was still a little too slow, but decided - fuck it, i'll let the credits play out.

when they ended... POP.

i wish there was a way to check the timer. i am seriously dubious i made it in under a minute; if i did, then i know there are a couple other runs where i was just as fast, but no achievement. Quitting out and restarting after every attempt (holy time consumption, Batman) and letting the credits play resulted in a popped achievement after multiple other fails.

i would have never tried that. reason #297 why i love TA. clap

THIS ACHIEVEMENT IS VERY LUCK BASED AND GLITCHY.
_____________________________________________________________
The thing that got mine to pop after doing literally everything mentioned in the comments was NOT dashboarding after every fail. I got frustrated and decided god dammit I'm just going to go again without dashboarding and then it popped that go so I believe different methods work for different people.
The thing the worker best for me was:
•Turning the brightness up and changing the crouch options from pressing B to holding B.
•Spamming RT three times to quickly pick up and drop the duck and grab the key.
•Using the A button to open the door because it glitches a lot and didn't open when I used RT while also remember that certain spot in the middle of the hidden door to click
•Spamming RT to quickly get the attic key
•Making sure not to bump into anything on the way to the attic
•Spamming RT at the attic door
•Not banging into anything in the attic
•Watching the credits the whole way through then it popped at the menu screen.

Tried a dozen times. Had to get at least 8 of them under a minute. Moved on to a different game. For the 12 Days of Christmas challenge I came back to it, since this is a “rare” achievement - on second try knew it had to be under sixty (flawless run), let the credits roll like others did, popped right after it went to back to the home screen. Thank you all who mentioned that...

I started this game in Oktober but I konceded bekause I thot the achievement was glitched. It isn't! Trust me on that. Here is what I did differently: (1) delete old saves, (2) re-map the A/B buttons to R1/L1 respectively, (3) I found a quicker way to grab the last key. Before I would walk right up to the desk the key is on but I found out u kan grab it with a bit of distance, (4) Watch the kredits all the way to the finish. Note: I like replacing the letter C with K, just for fun.

Gosh, as you can probably tell by the 122 comments, this achievement was really annoying. This one has gone into my trophy case.

I used the Right Trigger and spammed it, used the A button to be more precise and careful on that hidden door I kept getting hung up on, and spammed RT again on every other item/door.

I let the credits play through the end several times and it did not pop. I went to Maka's YouTube video and some recent comments there said they let the credits play for 10 seconds and then skipped with B. I did that on my final attempt and it popped maybe 5 seconds after I got to the title screen. FINALLY!

My anecdotal 2 cents. I did three runs without restarting the app, and let the credits play through on the final try. First 2 times I skipped the credits. I'm pretty sure I was under a minute each time; my third seemed clumsier than my second. I wouldn't be surprised that it only unlocks for some folks skipping the credits, and for others watching the credits.

I also used RT for all except the doors, and tried to avoid strafing and keep the left stick forward.

Good luck!

Good guide and solution! It was really easy and took fewer than 5 tries to unlock before even playing the game normally. Once you adjust to the controls and know the route, it’s very straightforward. I even missed the attic key the first grab and still managed to get it.

The secret panel door you have to walk back immediately after pressing [cn_a] (A) on the question mark so it doesn’t hit you while opening and get stuck. Other than that as long as you don’t bump into anything you should be good.

IF THE ACHV IS NOT POPPING FOR YOU:

1. Exit the game. Menu click on the game to QUIT officially.

2. Start up a new game, start it officially, then Exit and QUIT officially.

3. Start up GONE HOME again (a new game) - and beat in 1 minute. Mash B.

4. Achv should pop at Main Menu screen! toast

This is of course assuming that you are beating in less than 1 minute but the game is glitching and not popping.

If anyone is having trouble, I have a tip for you. When you move the character, always move the left analog stick in the up direction. Control the direction of movement using the right analog stick. Doing otherwise wastes precious seconds.

Also take point when the audio diary says "Maybe I will go into the attic...... and wait.", you should already have cleared the last step in the staircase leading to the attic and be past the cardboard box (see any of the video guides above).

The 'past the last step/cardboard box' tip helped me too. This is years later I know, and I don't know how you figured it out, but it gave me something to aim for. It helped me focus on the bits I was losing time on (moving smoothly after picking up the attic key). When I finally hit a run where I got to the box at the end of "...and wait" I knew I had a real chance, and went for it. Cheev popped. Thank you!

My achievement review/walthrough will show you the best way to go through Gone Home and get all the achievements. I do the 1 min speed run at the end of my video, its not too bad just spam B to skip the intro and outro.

23 Jan 2016 11:08

Hello fellow achievement hunters! If you're reading this, chances are probably that you're mad against this annoying achievement not popping.

This achievement took me more than 50 tries while going under a minute. Most of the times I was doing between 47 and 53 seconds.
This why I come with the conclusion that this achievement is glitched. I did alot of things mentioned in the solution's comments and it still did not pop. Here's what I tried that unfortunately didn't work.

• Deleted my save and restarted, by thinking my save was corrupted
• Closed the game deleted my save, went offline. did a quick run and let the credits go then went back online.
• Turned the brightness up and changed the crouch options from pressing B to holding B.
• Letting both intro and outro credits roll.
• Did alot more combinations of orders with the 4 points above.

I was really frustrated so I decided to prepare the game for the next try before giving up. What I did was :
• Closing the game
• Going offline
• Erasing the save data
• Launched the game
• Started a new game
• After skipping the intro, I saved and quitted to    the main menu
• I closed the game
• Went back online
• Turned off the console
• Waited an hour (I don't think it was necessary. I had to go pick up my gf)

When I went back at my home with my GF, I wanted to give it a final try so I :

• Opened the game
• Changed the brightness to max
• Started a new game
• Skipped the intro
• Did it under a minute
• Skipped the outro
• Achievement popped

Either I did something special or maybe I was lucky.
Like many said, doing it over and over will cause it eventually to pop because it's really luck based. I only wanted to share what I did to get it just in case you try it and it works also for you.

 Best of lucks.

To do this, you must do only a few necessary tasks to complete the story. Skip the intro.

Just received. We skip only at the beginning, when the cassette! Next, we focus on a stopwatch, for example. We need to have time to open the diary in 1 minute, then don’t skip anything, watch the credits, listen to the soundtrack. Then the trophy jingled. I tried all the options, but this is what happened
2

By Therapeutist on 26 Nov 2016 14:26
There is no need for any “dancing with a tambourine”, as others who received “platinum” describe, you just need to COMPLETE IT IN ONE MINUTE and you don’t need to do anything more than skip the initial screen saver and error-free actions. I realized this myself when I turned on the stopwatch and saw that with my, as it seemed to me, quick actions, I was keeping the time within a minute and ten seconds! I had to speed up and get this trophy.

PS: And yes, you can skip the last monologue after the word “myself” - checked, but there is no point in waiting for the end of the credits.

Everyone has already written, but I’ll still add, I skipped both at the beginning and at the end, but they didn’t give me the trophy. As a result, I waited until the end of the credits and the trophy fell out. There is no need to skip at the end, just practice first so that you fit it exactly in 1 minute.

This method helped me:
1) Start a new game and when the loading screen with the cassette appears, press circle. The game timer starts as soon as the "cassette" disappears. Then you can immediately skip the prologue. As soon as we get control, we do everything quickly and without errors.
2) As soon as we touch the diary, we don’t miss it! You need to wait until the screen goes completely dark. Only then can you press circle and skip the credits. This is because the game timer does not end until the screen goes dark. If we touch the diary and immediately skip the credits, then the game counter simply does not have time to complete and give a trophy.

No matter how hard I accelerated, no matter what I tried to do, nothing worked. I watched a bunch of videos. Well, the trophy didn’t fall out, and I sat with a stopwatch, it didn’t work out for me in less than a minute. Yes, and in the video they passed the last turn and only then did they end the recording and the message popped up that you would receive an audio recording. For me, this inscription always appeared between the stairs and the last turn. And then I decided to try to wait for the end of the credits, again I didn’t have time with the stopwatch. And the trophy finally fell!
Although I had attempts that were better than this one, and I always skipped it, but then I got tired of it and decided not to skip it

I read on foreign forums that you need to wait until the end of the credits, without missing anything, without skipping after opening the diary. I did this. It helped. The trophy fell out.
Those. We skip only the initial video.
