In order to unlock this achievement you simply need to play enough multiplayer online games to go up a player rank. The matches you play must be "Ranked". Each time you kill someone you will gain money. As soon as you have accumulated $1,000 the achievement will unlock. Also be on the lookout as when other players gets kills the dead bodies will always have some money laying around. If no-one picks it up simply grab it yourself.

Apparently not. I got just under $500 in my first game, and about $1200 in my second, and no achievement.

In order to get this achievement, you will need to get to rank 1 in multiplayer mode. In order to do this, you must make $1000 in ranked matches. You'll probably get this within your first hour of GTA 4 online play.

To get this, simply bring up your in-game phone-->multiplayer-->ranked, select game mode. You'll need to make $1k, and I played deathmath, earning $500 per game, so play 2 games and the achievement's yours.

This requires you to earn $1000 in RANKED online matches. It can usually easily be made in a few games of races or deathmatch and I believe Hangman's Noose Co-op matches also count. Essentially everything you do earns you money. Even if you don't get a kill money dropped from corpses also counts towards this amount. The online matches you play MUST BE RANKED to count towards the achievement/trophy. Once you get $1000 in ranked you will be promoted a rank.

This achievement/trophy is now much more difficult to obtain due to low player count mostly due to the age of the game. I would suggest linking up with a friend or scheduling a boosting session to try and get this.
