Rolled Over

Rolled Over

You managed 5 car rolls in a row from one crash.

How to unlock the Rolled Over achievement in Grand Theft Auto IV - Definitive Guide

[Guide]

This achievement can be done on the yellow ramps on the airport runway . Hit them on the side to start making barrel rolls.

Picture for reference:

External image

I want to add one other detail that may save you a lot of time and effort.

The game registers your roll as a row as long as you hold the right trigger (accelerate). If you start making flips do not release the right trigger , hope that you will land or flip back on your wheels and repeat this process about 2 to 3 times. It will accumulate the rolls you made in the seperate jumps and you will get the Achievement.

It should be noted that one of the game updates is rumoured to cause some issues with the linking method. Although this is not confirmed and people have been able to obtain this achievement, using this method just fine after the updates have been downloaded it is worth mentioning that there is also a number of people that ran into some trouble. If this happens to you then you should go to your dashboard and clear your cache, using your system blade on your dashboard. Remove the update , start up your game again and don't download the update ( don't worry, you will be able to download it anytime when you log back in to xbox live) , now proceed as usual.

Actually, it worked that way for me. I rolled twice on one run, turned around, and rolled 3 times about 20 seconds after that and got it, but I didn't keep accelerating the whole time. Weird achievement.

So what part of this solution works, the holding the accelerator part?

I can't remember if I used to do that. Tried forever but couldn't get this achievement. I'll give it another go and see how I get on.

Still can't do it, I think the achievement must be glitched on my game. Hopefully starting a new one will sort that out.

It is my experience that the airport works better than the swingset and i have no idea if holding RT during the swingset glitch is going to help you. A friend of mine launched himself over the place and got it but the large majority of the people have used the RT trick on the runway.

I can confirm that the jump-stringing technique does work at the airport. I spawned a turismo and did not let my finger off of RT. It took me about 5-6 jumps but still I finally got it after years of trying to do it the hard/legitimate way! The fact that you can use a cheat code and still get it is tremendously useful. I wouldn't advise saving afterwards though.

I didn't clear my cache and just held the RT button down the whole time without letting go. I did 2 separate jumps, first jump with 3, second jump with 2. All without letting the gas go.

You can get all 5 rolls in a single jump at the airport in a fast car if you hit the yellow ramp signs right on the edge.

Literally just did it that way in the Infernus you get for free from Bernie after completing his missions (wish I'd thought to record it to upload, but oh well)

The game doesn't accumulate rolls - the achievement is quite clear about it, "Do 5 car rolls in a row from one crash". However, if you are trying to get this at the airport you may be lucky and land from your crash close enough to another launch point so that if you hit it in time the game may still think that it's part of the first crash. If what you were saying is true I would have this achievement twenty times over before I did actually get it.

I did it in the end with a parked sentinel near the radar tower. At the north of the airport beyond the choppers there are a couple of cars parked there - I've discovered that one of them frequently spawns as the type of car you enter the airport at, which is handy once you've wrecked your car and still not got it.

further to GimmeDLC1's solution

couldn't do it using his method but i did manage to find the following video that i used and it worked first time. its the same principal but on an 'easier' roof.

N.B i did this using 'Liberty City Stories TLAD & TBOGT' disc instead of the 'GTA4' disc, you can get it using either!

not my video so credit to the original uploader!

Thank you so much! I spent two hours working on the swing glitch and the airport with no luck, then got this first try with only five minutes of work. Just a suggestion, to get to the top of the building faster, the heli cheat is 395-555-0100, that way you don't need to worry about going to the helitour place and getting a fresh one.

@vinacha
Flips are rotating end over end, rotating forward or backward. Rolls are rotating side over side, rotating left or right.

Upvote because this was a hell of a lot easier than any other method I have tried over the years.

Used the phone to spawn a helicopter, got to the top of the building, used the phone to spawn a police car, got the driver side of the car hanging off the building and it started to fall. Seven or eight rolls, landed flat and continued to drive.

By KAIDO on 22 Jul 2021 18:10
This did work for me after SEVERAL tries -- I found what helped was to accelerate and turn INTO the building, JUST as I went over (don't accelerate too early -- you should barely have any forward momentum, the turn-in is the important part) -- this hastened my flipping speed (I believe I did a full 6 flips, on the way down, with this tweak). Before that, 4 times was the most I flipped, simply letting myself edge over, as this mediocre video suggests....

lol 9 or 10 flips. I did it on another side of the roof when it worked for me. one step left of were he do it in the video. Never pressed RT.

Also i dont think it worked on the gta 4 main game as i had 7 flips on first attempt.

I then put in the gay disc and got it there.

After you get the achievement if you worry about the cheat code just quit to dashboard as there are no autosave on this. And if it was you could have a separate save that you get when you sleep in your saferoom.

I noticed that there were a ton of solutions for this achievement, but here are the methods which I've tried that DID NOT work for me.

The method that Markyshizzle suggested in his solution did not work for me. I don't know why there has been a large amount of positive feedback for the most part, but it seems that using cheats (for me anyways) blocks any and every achievement.

The method that Cenrail suggested does not work for me either. It might be possible to get the achievement using the swingset glitch, but getting the glitch to work all depends on luck and even then, it might shoot your car completely straight and it might not flip at all. The holding the RT to link the rolls didn't work for me either. I did 10+ rolls when I was trying this a couple months ago and still nothing popped.

I also don't agree with Quiksilver723, who says in his solution that you have to get 5 rolls in the air and rolls on the ground don't count. That definitely isn't the case, when I went for the achievement, I remember I had 2 or 3 rolls on the ground and it popped.

What I personally suggest, is to use the yellow ramps at the Francis International Airport, which is the more used and more hated method. It's 70% luck 30% skill. If you keep hitting the ramps correctly, you'll eventually get it. Another suggestion I have is to not bother to take too much time looking for specific cars to attempt it with. I personally got the achievement using the smaller taxi. It depends a lot more on how you hit the jump than how fast your car is.

Here is a video (credit goes to YouTube user "kooki3m0n5t3r") showing that it most definitely is possible to do get this achievement using the FIA method. I do realize it's hard to find a Comet, but other cars are fine too.

Here is a similar way of this method but just involves not letting go of RT. You just hold it and do flips till you get it.

As Cenrail suggests, the game does indeed register a roll so long as you keep on moving, i.e. you don't have to do the five rolls in the one go.

The best place I found was in the airport. Pick a fast car (like a Turismo), drive fast and go over one of the small ramps with two same side wheels on the ramp and two off. You will at least be able to get three rolls without difficulty. Land the car, continue moving, get to another ramp and make sure you roll the same way. If you do your first roll on an early ramp you will be able to continue driving straight to the next one.

The only real challenge is making sure the cops don't screw things up for you. If you have the backup option from Dwayne, call them just before you get a wanted level. They'll help distract some of the cops.

This among many others that are general like pool shark, gobble gobble, walk free, king of qub3d, under the radar, sightseer, it'll cost ya, finish him, chain reaction (i m guessing on 1- sightseer...cuz i haven't gone to confirm it) can be unlocked also when you are playing the DLC pack: The Lost and Damned so rather than getting 250 for the dlc u can get a bunch more if you play ur cards right.....just lookin out 4 u guys

Also if anybody is still needing to get this you now have 2 options

1- get it in GTA IV story mode
2- get it in TLAD story mode

what you do if you need a FREE fast car is to go to Grotti on Bismarck and Pyrite in Algonquin, there you will find some Super GTs-- if its after dark......shoot out a window.....if its daylight just walk into the place and jack a car....be warned that a 1 star wanted level is always going to occur

escape the cops and head to the airport (use a pay n spray if ur car got even a little damaged in the police chase because it may take more than one try to get it)

it helps to use the Algonquin bridge because that will (i think) get you all the way to the airport on the Expressway....soon as you get there its the first entrance on the right.....maneuver the car to get to the runway and hit the small, yellow "caution your blast" things with building up a lot of speed before hitting them

once u do 5 barrel rolls (not flips---to do a barrel roll just put ONE side of the car towards the ramp...either slightly right or slightly left) achievement unlocked

if your car isn't too damaged, you may also be able to get walk free from escaping the cops radar (4 star wanted level) that you accumulated by going to the airport runway....if you go for that too be warned to have full health and armor and a nice selection of automatic weaponry just in case sh!t hits the fan.....note that it does not unlock if you escape the police by going into a pay n spray when the cops are not looking

Instead of using the little ramps in the aiport I found a ramp that was right by a plane and what you do is spawn a car or steal one and go up the ramp fast but not too fast or you will go over the airplane and you will hit the airplane and you will flip over several times if you do it correctly and it will surely pop up. I have gotten this achievement it just doesnt show it
35

02 Jul 2010 23:20

Any fast car will work on this, and the best part is if your car tips over, or blows up, you can always nick another police car if you're using the airport runway trick as mentioned by others here.

When aiming for the yellow caution signs, you want to make sure you have just less than half your car hitting the corner of the signs. If you were going fast enough, it gives you more of a chance of acquiring the achievement.

The airport one works really well, however if you're having trouble getting it with the holding down the gas (linking method) then try clearing your system cache (xboxdashboard-harddrive-press y-clear cache) and turn on gta again (DONT DOWNLOAD the update) and play, it should work now. can download update after you get it.

Obtain a Helicopter (either stolen from Helitours or a private Helior by using cheat 359-555-0100) and fly to a skyscraper in Algonquin. Choose a tall building that has not got a ledge, as it will be increasingly difficult to spawn a car onto a narrow path.

When you are on top of the skyscraper, spawn a cheat car such as the Comet or Turismo and put the 2 wheels of one side next to the edge but not over the edge. Slowly creep closer to over the edge and once you have 2 wheels of one side of the car over the edge, you can increase the turning effect you are putting on the wheel. Once it is falling, it should do 5 turns. if it doesnt, try again on a taller building.

i got this achievement by going to the airport and then spawning a comet. then i drove on the grassy areas where all of the ramps are and tried to only get 2 wheels on the ramp to get a good spin going. it took me like 10 tries, but i got it

The Airport didn´t work for me. I was goin crazy. So i googled a little bit an found this solution on achievement hunter:
"go to Algonquin bridge (towards Algonquin), take a big run up down the motorway and aim for the ramp when the road splits on the bridge. Try hitting it so only about 40-50% of the right of the car hits the ramp - that'll give you decent spinning momentum; and try clipping the edge of the bridge while in the air - it'll send you a bit higher and make you spin more."

Note: It works on the updated version you do not have to clear the chache. Just hold RT jump over make a u-turn and jump again. it took me 5 tries.

I didn't believe it... But the Taxi & Cop car are MADE for this achievement.

The Airport Method was the easiest method by far.... Go to the Airport, get on the Part where the planes Take off (will instantly get 3 or 4 star wanted level)... You will see the Yellow "Ramps" in the middle where the Grass is.... Do not use the Very Last ones, as you are more likely to end up in the Water instead.... There is a Section about 2/3 the way that is perfect... Get Speed, hit with one Side of wheels, use Thumbstick to keep rolling.

( do not let go of the Gas, it will continue to Add flips as long as you can stay upright, and keep the Gas peddle pressed. I did it with 2 tries, 3 flips each time.... So it does count the flips as long as you are pressing the Gas peddle button)

I couldn't get the airport flip to work, so i use the swingset physics glitch that still works relatively well on the Xbox Series X in 2023.

It consists of:
  1. Getting any midsize car,
  2. Driving all the way to the playground around the Firefly Projects
  3. Place your car's truck towards either furthest or middle metal stands of the swingset and hit full reverse cn_LT
  4. Continue hitting reverse until the game's physics bug out, IMPORTANT: start pressing forward gas cn_RT while the car gets thrown until you come to a complete stop.
  5. and pretty much it!
Video proof:

NOTE: took me a few tries to get it. It'll take a little patience and good positioning and you'll get it.

It is not necessary to do 5 coups at a time, you can do one coup 5 times, the main thing is not to get out of the car, otherwise you will have to start over.

I checked it personally.
Indeed, to achieve this, you can turn the car over not in one go, but in several approaches, BUT...
The time interval between the first and fifth coups is limited to 60 seconds.
That is, you need to have time to turn the car over 5 times (5 full 360* turns) in any way in 60 seconds.

Video guide

PS, as an alternative to the airport, I can recommend a road repair site in the southwest of Manhattan (a small sandy hill is a springboard), moving at high speed from north to south in the oncoming Frankfort Ave (at night there is less traffic on the roads).

Go to the airfield on the runway, take a fast car (Infernus, Super GT, police, etc.). You should see several yellow springboards in the grass. Find the one closest to the road and drive back. Accelerate and approach the jump at maximum speed, so that only half of the car hits it. Then sit and count the revolutions.
