How to unlock the Mastermind achievement in Grand Theft Auto V - Definitive Guide

This trophy may come naturally if you are a good player, but if not, there is an easy way to get it! You must earn 25 platinum medals across all the heists. You CAN replay the same heist and get a platinum medal on the same missions, it WILL count! These platinum medals are not the same as platinum awards that you earned for the Decorated trophy in the main game. These medals are given based on how you do in each mission, where platinum is for first place, gold for second, and so on. The best way to get yourself a platinum medal is to always go for the objectives, and get lots of kills and headshots. The game tends to prioritize the objectives more than anything else, so if a mission has something you need to pick up, or a specific character to kill, prioritize those over all else. If a mission just has lots of enemies, get the most kills & headshots and you should get the platinum medal.

Here is a link to a quick guide I made to help you get some easy platinum medals: Platinum Medals Guide.

I would recommend finishing all the heists before grinding it afterwards, as you might get platinum medals without even trying during some missions, making you only need to grind a few afterwards.

The fastest way to get the trophy would be to replay the first heist, “The Fleeca Job.” You can replay it by calling Lester and selecting the option “Replay Heist.” The person who drives the car in each setup mission and the heist itself will always get the platinum medal, regardless of how bad you drive.

Note that after completing the heist, you will have to wait 24 in-game hours (roughly 50 minutes) before you can replay it.

However here is a tip from Dark_Raven666 to get it done faster:
For Mastermind, you can avoid the 48 minute cooldown on heists by cancelling the Heist at the finale. So for Fleeca Job, you can do the two set ups and cancel the finale, then call Lester and do it straight away. Makes grinding platinum medals a lot faster.
If you want to keep track of your progress, press , then scroll over to “Stats.” Then select “Heists” and finally the award called “Decorated.”

In the Heist Update, platinum medals are rewarded to players who perform the best during a Heist Setup mission or Heist Finale. What constitutes performing above and beyond your crewmates are the number of kills and headshots one achieves, as well as accuracy and general contributions towards completing the main objective of the mission. After completing a Heist Setup mission or Heist Finale, you will be presented with the post-mission screen, which shows the players in the party and which tier medal they obtained: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

Generally, the easiest way to obtain this achievement is to partner up with a single other player and continuously replay Lester’s first heist, “The Fleeca Job,” which is the only two-player heist available. In order to replay this heist, pull up your in-game phone and give Lester a call. A drop down menu on the upper left side of your screen will appear, so go ahead and select the option "Replay Heist > The Fleeca Job." Now wait a few seconds and Lester will call you back, informing you that the heist is now available to start (indicated by a green "H" icon in your apartment's planning room).

During the first Setup mission here, the player going for the platinum medal should be the driver during the duration of the mission. As for the second Setup mission, the player going for the platinum medal should clear out most, if not all of the enemies around the Kuruma on the top level of the Del Perro parking garage, then proceed to drive the Kuruma to Lester’s warehouse. Lastly, during the Heist Finale, the player going for the platinum medal should be assigned the “Driver” role.

Following the method described above, one player can net three platinum medals in a matter of 20-25 minutes over the course of the three aforementioned missions. As mentioned, you can continue to replay this heist multiple times, so grinding out the achievement on “The Fleeca Job” is by far the quickest way to obtain 25 platinum medals. Just take note that there is a 90-120 IRL cool down to replay this heist, which can prove to be a burden. To bypass this cool down period, please refer to THIS POST

If for whatever reason you lose track of your progress for this achievement, you can check how many platinum medals you currently have by following these steps: PAUSE > STATS > AWARDS > HEISTS > DECORATED AWARD. This award tracks how many platinum medals you have achieved. Thanks to Colonel Gray for this tip!

Not as scary as it might seem. Platinum medals are counted every time you complete any task, even if you completed it before and already received platinum there. Find your favorite heist (or easiest one) and take it until you get bored. I can personally recommend Robbery Fleeca as a driver. In my opinion, getting something below platinum there is unrealistic. In other cases, shoot accurately at the heads, do not catch the bullets with yourself, and everything will be fine. Progress is tracked at the following address: pause menu>statistics>rewards>robberies>medalist.

First you need to complete all 5 robberies - you will receive several platinum medals, after which you can safely replay the first robbery. The first robbery is the simplest and fastest in time, only one partner is needed, you can even complete it with randoms.

Fleeca robbery. (3 platinum)

1.Reconnaissance - the driver receives platinum.

2.Kuruma - the driver receives platinum.

3. Bank robbery - the driver receives platinum.

After completing the heist, it will not be available for some time. We exit the game completely in the console menu and start the game again, the first robbery will be available again.

This does not mean platinum awards (of which we needed to get 50 pieces for a platinum trophy in this game), but platinum medals . After completing each preparatory operation or robbery, players are awarded a medal according to their performance (bronze-silver-gold-platinum), these are the 25 platinum medals we need to get. Therefore, you can boost 25 the first robbery, because there it’s really easier for the driver to get a platinum medal. So don’t be alarmed, you don’t need to get 25 awards (although there seem to be only 18-20 of them there)

The number of platinum medals can also be tracked through the social club https://ru.socialclub.rockstargames..../awards/heists , there is a medal called “WITH DISTINCT”, so you need to get it 25 times.

In fact, in Flisa's exploration, the driver does not always receive the platinum. If the driver crashed every now and then, and the passenger passed the snake without errors, the passenger will receive a platinum. When a Kuruma is stolen, it is the driver who always receives the platinum. If you discard Flisa, you can also get platinum:

Escape (mission in the station/on the ship) - the platinum is always given to the one who drives the car stolen from the ship. The one who shoots at the castle drives the car.

Escape (airplane) - the pilot most often receives the platinum; a member of the ground group who has particularly shot enemies can kill them.

Escape - the platinum is always awarded to someone from the prison team.

Humane (codes) - the one who brings the codes to the apartment always gets the platinum.

Humane (EMP) - the hydra pilot always gets the platinum.

Humane (Valkyrie) - the pilot most often receives platinum.

Humane (EMP delivery) - platinum is most often received by a hacker.

Humane - platinum is most often awarded to the pilot, or a member of the ground team who especially shoots enemies. The shooter does not receive higher silver.

Series A (garbage truck) - one garbage truck always gets the platinum.

Series A (bikers) - most often one manufacturer receives platinum.

Series A (ice theft) - the tanker driver always gets the platinum.

Pacific (vans) - platinum in 99% of cases goes to one of the navigators.

Before you start boosting platinum medals, I recommend that you first get the achievement Dead Presidents , since in the process you will already receive a number of platinum medals.

Any participant can receive a platinum medal, both in any preparatory task and in the main heist.

The Platinum Medal is a kind of MVP (Most Player). There are several factors for receiving a platinum medal:

  • Most kills
  • Most headshot kills
  • Lowest health damage taken
  • and etc.
One easy way to get platinum medals is to simply restart the FIRST FLEECA bank branch tutorial heist ( two players to start the heist ), i.e. two preparatory missions and the main robbery. To increase your chance of getting PLATINUM, choose the following roles:

  • Intelligence - most likely the driver's partner will receive PLATINUM.
  • Kuruma - the driver will most likely receive PLATINUM.
  • Bank - most likely the driver will receive PLATINUM.
You can see the total number of platinum medals:
