How to unlock the I'm Famous! achievement in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

The media attention rank is a reflection of the amount of damage and chaos you cause throughout the game. The rank increases by killing people and destroying vehicles. The more destruction you make and the longer you maintain a high wanted level, the higher your media attention rank will reach.
Getting the Stuff of Legends media attention rank has to be done in one killing spree, so it's not cumulative. The Stuff of Legends media attention rank requires a score of 1800.00+.
You can check your media attention rank by pressing start, going to stats and scrolling down all the way.

The best way in getting this achievement is by getting the Rhino tank first. The Rhino appears when you have a 6-star wanted level, but hijacking one is pretty much impossible. Therefore it's recommended to unlock the Rhino in a different way.

Unlocking the Rhino tank:

As soon as you have access to the Rhino it's just a matter of time before you get the Stuff of Legends media attention rank. After entering the Rhino you go berserk all the way, you keep shooting and crashing into other vehicles. Soon enough you will have a 6-star wanted level. It took me around 7 minutes to go up from rank 47.93 (Boring) to 2055.04 (Stuff of Legends).

While doing this, the following achievements will unlock as well:

Do you think it's possible to get this with the Hunter? Every time I try with the tank I get blown up or busted before I can reach 1800. Highest I got was just under 1600. The other tanks usually just bombard me until I can't move anymore.

Well, using a Rhino to cause some damage makes my game crashing everytime I am about to get 1800 points (checked about 5 times). It either crashes completely to dashboard (1st island) or freezes with gamepad vibrating, so I have to manually close the game (2nd island). All the way before 1800 everything seems to be fine. Anybody experienced anything like this?
EDIT: An other bug helped me in getting this. I noticed that for some considerable time I was not getting any points to the rank. Thankfully I somehow passed 1800 during that "lag" and it immediately changed from 1750 to 1820 and popped achievement.

I kept the rhino i had from brown thunder in the sunshine auto's garage, and took it for a spin down that long stretch of road and ran over every vehicle, and pedestrian that i could.

The achievement popped when i paused the game.

Use the hunter and make a pass up and down the strip on the left island spamming missiles, then hit pause to check stats, really easy. Wanted level only reached 4 stars

The hunter method doing the spamming missles (and I held down the machine guns, too) got me the 1895 in just one run up and down. lol very easy method. I only had 3 stars

Got this using the heli and going up the strip on the left island, got about half way and got to close to my rockets died but got the achievement...

In case it helps anyone else out: I was wreaking havoc in the Rhino tank much longer than the other comments suggest is necessary (45 minutes, reckon). Was doing the Vigilante missions at the same time, but every time I looked at the stats, my highest was saying 1200. I cancelled the Vigilante mission, went and parked in a garage, and then saved the game ... and it popped. I hadn't blown anything up or run anyone over etc. for about 20 seconds, so maybe the act of going to save it made the rating finalise or something. Dunno.

It seems this may have to be done in 1 run. I was at 100% complete and had unlimited ammunition. So I stood on the roof of the Vercetti estate launching rockets at cars and cops until I got to 6 stars. Then I launched rockets at the Rhino when that showed up. Eventually when I paused to check the stat, it finally unlocked.

By the time you reach Vercetti estate you should have 6 stars wanted level. Drive the the tank up the stairs near the entrance, get out and start spaying bullets on your own tank. Any gun would do but chain gun is advisable with its fire rate. At six star wanted level when you start shooting at the tank, the game thinks that you are shooting the tank that is deployed by army and raises your media attention rank like crazy. The trophy unlocks within few seconds to a minute based on your current media rank. I went from 350 to 1800 in 20 seconds! Do this inside Vercetti mansion because the police wont attack you. Only the lazy ones with pistol will dare to enter the main gate itself.
