How to unlock the Shovel master achievement in Graveyard Keeper - Definitive Guide

If you don't feel like waiting for 50 bodies and are able to buy the exhumation certificate from the Royal Services by the Chapel, you can just keep burying and exhuming the same body over and over again until you reach 50.

The exhumation certificate costs 1 silver and 75 bronze and you're going to need one for every single time you dig up the body. Keep in mind though every time you bury the body you'll get a burial certificate you can sell to Horadric at the Dead Horse for about 25 bronze less than what you paid for the exhumation certificate.

You'll lose money but it's a lot faster than waiting for the bodies if you want it in a hurry, or if you screwed yourself in the early stages by cremating a lot of bodies as cremating gives you a certificate but doesn't count towards the achievement.

I had my tracker freeze on this achievement. Could any body tell me that the exhumed body has to be buried in a new location or can you keep using the same grave?

Buried 50 bodies.

One that will come to you fairly easily over time, burying 50 bodies is easy but requires a little work and a lot of time to pass.

Every day, the Donkey will bring a corpse to your morgue front steps at dusk. There’s a few things to know about this.

First, the Donkey will never bring you more bodies than your morgue can hold (see the upper right hand corner of the screen when you’re inside; you start at 1 body as capacity, and can add more by crafting more pallets and preparation tables. Exhumed bodies do not count towards this limit.

Second, at some point the Donkey will go on a little strike and require a few things from you before he’ll start bringing bodies again. This is a bit of a hassle, but from then on, he will only bring bodies if you have paid him in carrots (paid in advance by putting them in a box nearby his delivery spot). However you can use this to your advantage when you want to do other work and not worry about popping back in to deal with fresh corpses - simply leave the box empty when it runs out and he’ll wait at the box with the newest body until you put in more carrots.

Thirdly, burning bodies at your ‘crematorium’ (funeral pyre spots) also counts as burying a body (as evidenced by your reward of the Burial certificate for payment). does NOT count as burying a body for the purposes of earning this achievement; however, it is still a preferable way to get rid of a body that is unfit for putting in your graveyard, since burning it will produce a burial certificate which you can turn in for money.
Tossing a body in a river does NOT count, and doesn't give you a certificate either. Only toss bodies in the river if you can't burn bodies yet (or no longer care about money from certificates).

So, basically, just keep taking care of the bodies the Donkey brings you, and eventually you’ll unlock this achievement without much thought. The graveyard can hold somewhere around 88 bodies, so assuming you don't even exhume any bodies, you'll earn this long before you fill your graveyard.

Burning bodies counts for the certificate but not the achievement.

It’s not random he delivers everyday, if you have carrots, except pride day. And burning bodies does not count.

It does appear that burning bodies doesn't count anymore. It seems they changed that with one of the updates recently, since I earned this. I know they used to count because the final body that popped the achievement for me was a burnt body, not buried. Updating the solution to reflect this.

I have not read guides or anything so I don't know if the graveyard expands later, but presently mine is only to the right of the church, is full, and does not have enough space for more. When you eventually upgrade the church (have not done so yet), do you get more burial ground to the left (where the curse is)?

Yes, you can expand to the left as well. The ability to do so comes by progressing with the Inquisitor; you can speak with him once you've progressed enough with him and gain the ability to use that side after you complete a small quest for him.

This is a simple one! All you have to do is bury 50 bodies within your graveyard.

Things to take note of:
- Bodies that have been cremated DO NOT count
- If you exhume a body and then re-bury it, it WILL count towards your total

I mainly wanted to post this guide to mention that exhuming and re-burying a body counts.

This will be a gradual trophy you'll earn through trying to raise your cemetery's score for more money during prayer. Aim for getting 5-6 white skull corpses and burying them, but you can exhume corpses for a small fee later (if you have any with red skulls or less than 5). Once you plop the fiftieth corpse into the ground, you'll get this trophy.

User Varledir has confirmed that if you have at least 13 silver readily disposable, you can bury and then exhume the same corpse multiple times to reach this amount. Burial certificates are valued at 1s50c and exhuming permits cost 1s75c, so a difference of 25c multiplied by 50 is 12s50c.

I can confirm that burying the same body over and over again counts towards the trophy.

Exhumation Papers cost 1 silver 75 copper, and burying it gives you 1 silver 50 copper.

So if you have 12 silver 50 copper you can easily get this trophy with 1 body and 50 Exhumation Permits

@Varledir: Thanks for confirming that. I got it naturally since I was a cheapskate with my first playthrough, but good to know it can be grinded out with one corpse.

During the tutorial, you’ll be shown where you get bodies from and how to bury them. Every day, the Donkey will drop off a body for you. A sound of a bell ringing is the notification that a body as been delivered. At the start of the game, he’ll do it for free, but not shortly after he’ll require you to “pay” him with carrots. The seeds for carrots are cheap, so buy a lot of them and continually plant and harvest them when they’re ready and then place them in the box near the entrance of the morgue for the Donkey. Throwing them in the river or burning them does not count, but exhuming a body and reburying it does.

When you get further along and are able to embalm bodies, I suggest not burying any bodies unless you are able to get them to at least have 12 points (skulls). If you cannot, harvest whatever parts you need from the body and then burn them at the crematorium to get your burial certificate. Having 12 points on a buried body lets you get as much as you can out of your graveyard as the combination of additions you can add to each grave (fence and gravestone), as you can only get a max of 12 points for each grave.

Check out this link on the process on what you need to do to get a 12 skull corpse here.

You can dig up and bury one body using the Exhumation Permit. At the same time, with each burial you will receive a “Funeral Certificate”
