How to unlock the Ability to Operate Machinery achievement in Green Day: Rock Band - Definitive Guide

This solution is for the solo button impaired like myself:

Set your difficulty to hard, use the RB guitar, and turn No Fail on as stated by Markyshizzle and Orange Raccoon. Play thru the song (or dont if you dont want to) and when you get to the solo press all 5 solo buttons at the same time as each note passes the strike line. You will hit every note as it goes by and you will unlock the achievement at the end of the song.

Very cheap but very easy, took me two tries this way.

Perfect solution, thanks. The hardest part of this thing is just sitting through the 8 minutes up to the solo.

Just press all five solo keys at the same time...you don't have to strum just press them at the same time you would normally strum a note.

Thanks. I think it must just be a timing thing for me. I'll make sure I play it breakneck speed on as I seem to be far more accurate when I do.

It’s hard for me to hit all the buttons at the same time fast enough. Any other tips?

Following the above solution, doing career mode on hard is the way to go. YOU NEED A ROCK BAND GUITAR. It might also work with a different guitar if it's a guitar that doesn't require strumming to play a note. I cannot confirm this, as I did it with my rock band guitar. Just play the entire song on the lower keys so that your fingers are already down there and are used to the smaller keys by the time the solo comes up. When it comes up, it will start with a red note (if you're playing on hard, which I don't know why you wouldn't be, unless you wanted some extra challenge on the cheevo) that you need to tap and not strum. After this red note, just follow the rest of the solo through. It's really not that difficult, but if you need to practice it, just go into practice before playing the song. In practice, the solo starts with a blue sustain and not the single red note that actually starts the solo in the song, so be aware of that when playing. I'd also recommend that you know the part before the solo so you know when it's coming up. There's almost no time between the note before the solo and the red note that starts the solo, so you need to be ready. Good luck, and I hope this helped out at least a little!

I've also practiced it before playing the song in career mode ONLY to find out, that in the song, the red note counts towards the solo but when practicing the song, it was not there... So I focused on starting with the blue one and the stupid game told me, that I got 98%...
So be aware guys, like ErichRunner said: The red note counts towards the solo!!

Using a Rock Band guitar, you must use the small solo keys on the bottom of the neck of the guitar. When you use this, you don't have to strum for solos, just hit the buttons. You must get 100% on the solo without strumming. Hitting the keys extra is okay as long as the note registers.

With that said the actual solo isn't tricky at all, I got my achievement in career mode on hard. Just takes a long as time to get to the solo because its at the very end of the song.

Good luck!

"If you don't want to play through the entire song, you can turn on no-fail and still get the achievement if you only play the solo."

NOTE This is a repost on my new account, My old post had 12+ votes. Please take that into account

From the above solution:

Using a Rock Band guitar, you must use the small solo keys on the bottom of the neck of the guitar. When you use this, you dont have to strum for solos, just hit the buttons. You must get 100% on the solo without strumming

The song is not hard, but The solo is at the end of the song, about 8-9 minutes in

How to do it without burning hours:

Go to practice mode and practice Guitar solo A until you get it perfect 3 times in a row, then the same for B. Then play A and B together 3 times in a row perfect.

Finnally Play the part before it, A and B, only worrying about the solo.

Once you are ready, memoized the part before the solo, and nailed it perfectly multiple times, Go to quickplay, no fail mode on.

Listen to the song and get ready When he says " To live, and not to breathe" get ready, because the solo is soon.

Good luck and hopefully you can get this in your 2nd or 3rd run

The only tricky part in the solo will be the descending triads. Make sure to slide your hand up for each second set of them and this should go by easily. The only true difficulty on this is the length of the song, you have about 8 or so minutes before the solo even appears.

To get this achievement, you need to have a Fender Stratocaster Rock Band Guitar Controller. You need to get 100% on the solo of the song “Jesus Of Suburbia” using the smaller buttons near the strum bar. You must tap the entire solo with these buttons and not strum. I would recommend practicing the solo a few times before attempting to get 100% in Career or Quickplay. “Jesus Of Suburbia” is over nine minutes long and the solo is at the very end, so make sure that you can do it. Start tapping on the red note, even though it isn’t part of the solo in Practice. Also, the solo is significantly easier on Hard. You can play the entire song with the solo buttons, but you have to strum outside the solo. I would highly recommend doing this so that you are used to the buttons and don’t have to shift you hand all the way down the neck of the Guitar when the solo pops up.

This would be easier on Hard difficulty rather than Expert if you're just going for the trophy. When the solo starts, you must only use the frets closest to the body of the guitar (the little buttons) but be prepared to play through 8 minutes of the song before the actual solo begins. This must be done with a Rock Band guitar:

Solo starts at 7.54

To obtain this, you need a guitar from Rock Band; a guitar from Guitar Hero will not work.

Got this trophy using a Chinese guitar "Artplays CrazyGuitar" with GHRB switching function. If anyone has it, you can use the slidebar as a tapping button.
