How to unlock the American Unity achievement in Green Day Rock Band - Definitive Guide

For this achievement you need to play the song American Idiot in a 2-4 player band and make sure everyone in your band hits every "unison bonus", so you get the extra Overdrive each time.

This can be done on any difficulty with a combination of every instrument (except vocals).

Edit: Vocals are not part of the unison bonus. Thanks to Zechman for pointing this out.

You cannot do it with Voxtar, as vocal overdrives are not part of unison phrases--it's like that in every Rock Band game. You will need at least two instruments and that pretty much makes it impossible to do solo.

What exactly is the Unison bonus? I got confused where you said get the "extra" overdrive.

Do you just mean, in basic terms, that every "white (overdrive)" note has to be hitten in the song by both players?

When playing with multiple instruments there'll be times in the song where both all instruments (minus vocals) get overdrive (white notes) at the same time. If all players hit these white notes everyone will get twice as much overdrive as they would normally get. This is called a "Unison Bonus". You don't need to hit every overdrive note, as the unison bonus only comes every second overdrive or something :)

Ah ok thankyou. Is their any indication of which give overdrive bonus? I'll have to get my missus to play, so this could take a while ;) (Just kidding, shes quite good actually).

You will need to get every Unison Bonus in the song “American Idiot”. To get a Unison Bonus, you need at least two players. A Unison Bonus is achieved when two instruments (Bass, Drums, and Guitar) earn “Energy” at the same time (there will be a message to alert you of a possible Unison Bonus). Vocals are not eligible for Unison Bonuses. This can be done on any difficulty, with any combination of Bass, Drums, and Guitar, in Career or Quickplay.
