How to unlock the Louder Than Bombs and Eternity achievement in Green Day Rock Band - Definitive Guide

This achievement is HARD! It's a challenge for even the best drummers out there! The ratio does not lie for this one.

"Brain Stew / Jaded" is one of the toughest songs on drums.

Some people have endorsed to "hands" method, as mentioned above (with no fail-mode on). Well that method was above, but now since my solution is the highest :D and there's nothing above now, then I'll clarify:
With the hands method, you take the foot pedal in your lap with no fail mode on and don't worry about the individual drum notes; just worry about the orange bars. Practice a couple of times to get the rhythm down. I could never figure it out though. Seems like hitting the drums helped me through, but some are able to actually do it.
Sadly, I struggled with this method. It's definitely out there if you wanna try it though. Also this achievement works with hyperspeed as well if you are more comfortable with it.

You can also do it similar to the hand method with your foot, in case you're more comfortable with your foot.

I know you probably don't wanna hear this, & I don't wanna brag, but I'm a really good drummer and I struggled with this achievement. I spent many hours practicing this song since I couldn't do the hand or foot method, so I eventally FC'd (full comboed) the song on drums. & boy was I excited to have this achievement behind me!

You MUST hit ALL orange bars (foot pedals). If you accidentally let 1 slip by, then you must restart the song as it voids the achievement.

The first 3 minutes ("Brain Stew") is a cakewalk. Slow and easy beat. Then it picks up with "Jaded". Which honestly wouldn't be quite as bad if it didn't change up the beat 2 or 3 times in its duration. So make sure to keep an eye out for the changes!

A HUGE pointer: Save up your overdrive & DO NOT use it during the "Jaded" section. It will cover the "tricky" foot pedal beats, making this a lot easier if you get the beat down (a one-two one-two beat). Then the ending is quite a change-up, not hard, but just be prepared for the 5 or 6 bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum beat. It's not too fast, but just get ready so you don't miss one at the very end of the song.

The worst part of this achievement is that most people miss the foot pedal at the end of "Jaded," which sucks because you have to restart the song & sit through the 3-minute long "Brain Stew" section. Don't get me wrong I LOVE "Brain Stew," it's one of my favorite songs by Green Day, but when you're ready to get this achievement, it gets pretty annoying to sit through 3 minutes of easiness so you MIGHT have a chance at "Jaded."

Be patient and don't give up. It took me many hours to accomplish, but it felt amazing once I got it!

Edit: I've attatched a video just for people to see the chart if they're curious. My run looked a lot like this except for the fact that I let the overdrive cover up a lot of the trick beat at the end of the song!

This is not my video, credit goes to S4VN01GreenDay.

3:20-end is the HARD part!

*P.S. according to this site, I was the 9th to get this. :) (June 18th, 2010)

Tapping it out on my computer desk, the hand method seems pretty easy, I'm sure I'll change my opinion when I get back to the game and try it laugh .

And it's MUCH harder than it looks. I'm proud to say that I am 1 of the 1% on this site that has this achievement. Feels good :)

With a bit of practice this achievement isn't hard at all.

Head over to quick play and play Drums Expert with No-Fail turned on. When the Song begins play like you normally would until you get Overdrive. At the next free moment pause the game and put the kick pedal in your lap and use your hands* for the song. With the drum fills removing the hard parts this shouldn't be hard to get the hang of.

I will post the video once I get it uploaded.

*I recommend using a Rock Band 2 kick pedal since its a nice pedal and isn't much tension on it as the original pedal. The Beatles Pedal is the same.

*EDIT* I get this question a lot about Jaded. The beat is a constant one one-two one one-two thing. So in your head just think *bum bum-bum bum bum-bum* but be warned it will stop at two parts in the song so watch for the quick changes. With the drum fill removing the *bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum* parts out it takes away a lot of stress. The ending will be the only one you will have to deal with and it's a simple constant motion that shouldn't be hard to nail.

yes, indeed ... I wanted to post a message yesterday or the day before stating that I had 99% on this one ... I could jump from my balcony!!! But I was determined to get it and knew I was worth it! This could indeed seem to be "not hard at all with a bit of practice", ... but still, try to do it on that one run... you get nervous, make JUST one mistake ...
I have a dual kickpedal-setup [NYKO 'Metal Pedal'] (GH:WT set), and thought it would be easier doin' it with my feet, as one guy commented here;
but after all, I found it easier doin' it with my hand; exactly as the guide says: just pause at the first fill and put it on your lap ...
2nd thing: I'm fortunate to own a Beatles LE drumkit with this lovely, extremely accurate kickpedal; I thought to give it a try and it worked out!
Guess it's kind-a like that RB2 kickpedal...
So, I can confirm two things:
-achievement will unlock with "No Fail" turned on
-the "fill-method" is allowed, which means you'll have to hit less drum kick notes and it makes it 'easier'
(as soon as you have deployable starpower and the fills appear)
Good Luck and Persistence!

if you have a dual pedal setup, it'd be much easier to do it that way. also, the poster recommends putting the bass pedal in your lap and playing with your hands, but that is much harder to do IMO.

since you're on no-fail mode, you won't get penalized for overhits...so just hit that bass pedal like mad!

You don't want to hit it that much. The songs got a patteren during Jaded that you could easily miss if your trying to over kick. My camera isn't great so I do appologize for no video yet.

Ok thanks... but how the hell do you get the jaded part? It's really really difficult for me to hit all the bass drums on time with all the other notes in the way? Any info on that?

cool that no-fail doesn't disable achievements like it did in RB2. gonna make this much, much easier than i originally thought. thanks.

RB2 and Beatles pedal are the same pretty much. I use Beatles. Thanks for such a positive comment. Once again I do appologize for not having the video yet but my camera is just a cheap camcorder.

maybe I'll post a video too in the future; my brother's cam can capture it pretty nice (we once tried it when I was playing guitar). I don't know if I really gonna do that, but maybe ...

and yes, as you edited lately: the ending, the last notes, if I'm correct, are 7 kick notes, indeed, in a "constant" tempo/rhythm... be aware! practice this section (and the fast part) ...
during the song, at the fills, you can 'practice' it too, "to keep it in your hand" (maybe, if you want also the "1-2.-.1" rhythm, but I found it could be distracting; so, only twice or a few times do that ending rhythm and further CONCENTRATE!)
[and you don't wanna activate SP by accident; dunno how that could happen, but you never know! Somebody might 'bump' your set?]

bum-bum-bum-bum-bum part. That's easy to work out in text. I'd recommend taping a guitar hero pedal up and going snooker loopy on it with drum sticks. Haven't got mine but if you do should be easy.

Are you sure you're allowed extra kicks? I hit all the kick notes by drumming the sensor on my guitar hero pedal, and only got 56/100 kicks according to the achievement screen ;) And i've had this happen more than once...

For what it's worth to anyone, I just unlocked this today -- And I definitely had more consistent results by just trying to FC the song instead of messing with No-Fail. I only ever actually got 100% of the kick notes, when I got 100% of the TOTAL notes.

I'm with NathAttack. I couldn't do the hands method. I had to actually FC the whole song on drums. Bangin the drums helped me get my foot right. Took lots of tries, but I got it about 3 months ago :)

It does work with no-fail on. I guess people vote negative because they are unable to do it, or maybe they don't like his tone. "Very Simple" -- when in fact, even with no fail and using his method, it's not that simple.

I have created a way to use a computer to play drums perfectly and obtain this achievement. I have created a video tutorial for this method but I have included full text instructions as well.

This will also get you this achievement in the process if you do not already have it.

Man I can't get this one to work. I get through all of Brain Stew and most of Jaded before it falls out of sync. Is this one of the tougher ones to get working?

Ok I'll keep trying later. So basically if I get through all of Brain Stew and most of Jaded I know I'm close, but if I fall out of sync I just need to try to align it a bit better?

Would the version of Reaper matter at all? I'm on 5.04

Reaper version shouldn't matter. It's really just getting the syncing lined up properly.

Eventually works but takes patience to sync it correctly

I think this is probably one of the hardest of all of them for a couple of reasons. One being Brain Stew is really easy to hit when the sync is a little off, where Jaded has to be dead on. The other being that drums in GDRB are borderline completely broken which makes the timing window on the sync even smaller than usual.

*For people with Guitar Hero/Band Hero/any "Hero" drums:

If you are going to use the "No Fail / Save Overdrive / Play just the bass" method I strongly suggest using Guitar Hero Drums. The GH bass pedal differs from the Rock Band pedal in that it is a piezo sensor (turns vibration into energy) where as the Rock band pedal is a magnetic switch.

Why is this important?
-You can put it on your lap and hit it with drum sticks instead of stomping it with your foot! This allows you to use two hands instead of one foot making this achievement easier (though still very difficult) to obtain.

I suggest turning the pedal over and hitting it on the large piece of padding near the front. The padding is right next to the sensor and will give you a little bounce. Also, you are less likely to break the plastic as you furiously pound away on this achievement.

A few important notes:
-Your achievement screen might not update when No Fail mode is on but you CAN get the achievement with it. So if your hitting all but 1 or 2 kicks and your achievement screen still says 85/100 or something don't be discouraged.
-Extra hits DO NOT count against you. You could theoretically just play a bass roll as fast as you can through the whole song and as long as you still hit all the notes you would get the cheevo.
-Don't expect to get this in a couple tries. I think I tried like 40-50 times and still don't have it and I am a decent drummer. It will take sweat and determination but you will be rewarded in the form of a nice chunk of TA score.

Good Luck!

Play "Brain Stew / Jaded" on drums in Quickplay, and turn No Fail ON. Play through Brain Stew normally, but do not activate overdrive. This will cause many difficult sections to be covered up by fill lanes for the rest of the song. There is a long break of 10 seconds or so between Brain Stew and Jaded for you to get yourself into a comfortable position to hit the pedal with your hand. For all of Jaded, hit only the bass drum notes. Most of it is the same beat; the real killer is the tempo shifts. Learn where they are so you know where you should speed up and slow down.

Sometimes you won't hear the bass drum feedback from the game when you hit the first kick after a fill section. It doesn't mean you missed it, so if this happens, keep playing the song and don't let it distract you.

If you full-combo Brain Stew, don't activate overdrive, and hit only the bass drum notes in Jaded, your stats screen will read:

63,550 : 62% : 587 note streak

This will give you an idea how many you missed. For example, if you FC'd Brain Stew but got a score of 63,475 using this method, it means you missed 3 kicks in Jaded (25 per note at x1). Keep at it!

Before I got the achievement, my in-game Achievements page showed 99/100, and after using this method it says 100/100, so having No Fail ON did not disable the updating of this page for me.

I literally first played the game a few minutes ago, and am nowhere near this achievement yet- but I made an important discovery which may aid people in getting this achievement.

If you use the Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock drum kit (that looks a bit like this):
External image

then you can, very similarly to all the other solutions, turn no fail on and concentrate on the bass pedal notes. The difference being, instead of pressing the bass pedal with your hands, or hitting it with drumsticks, you can take your CYMBALS and plug them into the bass pedal socket. This way you can use drumsticks to operate the bass pedal, while hitting something that was supposed to be hit with drumsticks! One problem is the very short cables they use, you can either use a splitter or other extension cable to plug them in, or you can detatch the cymbal and place it over the red and blue pads. In my attempts so far I use the redundant orange cymbal as another bass pedal, while the rest of the drum kit is hooked up normally.

I hope this helps someone get this achievement.

This one will take a lot of time and effort. The best option here would be to use 2 people: one person uses the foot pedal and the other just uses the drums. It will make this one a lot easier for you to complete.

Once you get 100% the trophy will pop.

To get this achievement you need to hit all of the drum kick notes in “Brain Stew / Jaded”. "Brain Stew" is a relatively simple song, but "Jaded" has a pretty fast beat that is difficult. I would advise getting Overdrive during the "Brain Stew" portion of the song and holding on to it so that you don't have to play a decent amount of "Jaded". You can earn this achievement with the "No-Fail" option on so that you can focus on just the kick pedal. This must be done on Expert difficulty.

So just a warning for people going for this. Exessive overstrums almost certainly voids the achievement. I hooked up my phone to the bass pedal jack via aux and played a constant frequency on max volume on a frequency generator app. (This actually works, and you get to hear how green day would sound like as a black metal band. Even better, if you play music, it can faintly heard through the drums). I am very certain that it didn't drop any notes, but still no achievement. Btw, this was done using the Warriors of Rock drum kit

If anyone wants to play around with this, you need to have a frequency of 78 Hz (not kidding, 79 Hz averaged -2 notes per playthrough, 78 is perfect every time). I used saw waves instead of sine, maybe that makes a difference as well. The first app I tried wasn't loud enough, so try again if that happens to you.

I got it as follows: Set the fretboard speed to increase. Go to Quickplay, connect 2 instruments -> guitar and drums. Turn on No Fail. On the guitar we select the difficulty Easy, on the drums naturally Expert. In the game, the speed of the fretboard is set in favor of less difficulty. For both instruments. Thus, our speed is normal and the notes are far from each other. We catch Starpower with strikes and DO NOT activate it. This procedure results in 50% fewer pedal notes. Once you hit 100% with the pedal you will get the trophy.

PS It is not necessary to play the song. You can even press one pedal from the very beginning of the song.
