How to unlock the Not Growing Up, Just Burning Out achievement in Green Day: Rock Band - Definitive Guide

There are 3 songs you must get 3 stars on to get this achievement:

* Basket Case
* When I Come Around
* Welcome to Paradise

Expert vocals can be pretty tricky if you don't sing on Rock Band much. You kind of have to sing a bit like a robot and keep a steady pitch that matches the pitch lines in game, instead of trying to impersonate Billie Joe. Luckily, only 3 stars are required for each of these songs, and just getting through one of these songs pretty much secures a 3 star rating. It is possible to get less than 3 stars, but you'd have to be really terrible and you'd most likely fail out before you got to the end of the song.

Usually singing songs on Expert is easier if you're familiar with the songs outside of the game, so you have a basic idea of how you should sing it. Fortunately, the 3 songs for this achievement are 3 of Green Day's biggest hits. If you've listened to an alternative rock radio station in the last 15 years, you've heard these songs.

Try your best to nail the Overdrive phrases (the ones where the pitch line is glowing yellow), and deploy it as soon as you can. The boost to your score and crowd meter should help a lot if you are really terrible at the vocals.

This can only be earned during solo play in Career or Quickplay.

Just want to say (does have to go in your solution really) but i used the no-fail cheat to get this, my singing is that bad but i still managed to scrape 3 stars.

Confirmed that this one DOES work with no-fail turned on. Thanks!

Is there an actual code you have to type in for the cheat or do you mean the back button in the band entry screen?

This may take a few tries, the easiest for me personally was "When I Come Around". Try and hit as many overdrive phrases as possible, do not try to imitate Billy Joe Armstrong, it will work but not for long. Keep a a steady voice and try to get the pitches right. Be careful as you can wind up getting 2 stars instead of 3.

as you only require 3 stars there's a fairly easy way to get this,the more mics and singers you have the better,3 will be best obviously,1 singer per mic,i did it with me and my girlfriend,we both suck at singing but you don't need to be good,just knowing the tunes helps a lot,i'm pretty sure you can use no-fail option if you're struggling

basically you put the songs on solo play,not harmonies and everyone sings the song,the game will pick up whoever is on pitch at any given time,i personally just hummed the tunes while my girlfriend sang them,i caught bit of lines she missed and she got bits of lines i missed making it easy to 100% and gold star these songs

if you only have 1 mic then just try the humming through the mic,it's amazing how much better you do by humming,especially on long sustained notes

any questions feel free to ask

This one may cause some trouble for you, unless you can actually sing of course. Just get 3 stars on the songs selected and you will be sweet, if you can't sing then get a friend who can to help you out or you can just hum the notes which also works.

To earn this achievement you need to earn at least three stars on the three listed songs, "Welcome to Paradise", "When I Come Around", and "Basket Case". You must be on Expert difficulty. If you are having trouble passing getting three stars, try listening to them to familiarize yourself with them. If you are having trouble singing, try humming. If you are having trouble passing the songs, you can earn this achievement with the “No-Fail” option enabled.
