How to unlock the St. Jimmy achievement in Green Day Rock Band - Definitive Guide
-Give Me Novacaine/She's a Rebel
-Letterbomb
-Homecoming
-Are We the Waiting/St. Jimmy
These songs must be played on expert if you are skilled in any particular instruments try playing them there if not find a friend and try Gold starring them as a group. A fair warning the gold star cutoffs are VERY strict and require near perfect playing and/or perfect usage of Overdrive.
Another fair warning, these songs are not a cakewalk on some instruments (Letterbomb arguably being the easiest) unless you are great at this game you might have to work a bit for this one particularly for Homecoming.
Please note that completing these songs on a challenge will not add to the achievement.
Thanks to SteSteSte91 we have some cutoffs!

I had my thoughts about it, 'cause during challenges you start the next song with the same multiplier you ended the song before and you take the SP with you that you have.
So, that means it is easier to GS the songs, but I still am not sure if the GS requirements for a song during a challenge are 'higher' (I think not), ... BUT anyways, since you posted your comment: it doesn't matter!
I did that album challenge on guitar and then did it, later on, on bass, 'cause playin' the songs on bass in a challenge, will also count towards your "3 star every song on bass" and an achievement like playin' "F.O.D." on all instruments ...
and I was about to maybe re-play these challenges just to get to the fifth song, "Are We...", and to always have the highest multiplier and a full bar of SP (which is rather easy with "Boulevard of ..." being the previous song)
in the hope of getting the achievement...
Thanks again for your reply, b04onok!
The more mics and singers you have the better, 3 will be best obviously. 1 singer per mic.I did it with me and my girlfriend. We both suck at singing but you don't need to be good, just knowing the tunes helps a lot.
Basically you put the songs on solo play, not harmonies and everyone sings the song. The game will pick up whoever is on pitch at any given time, I personally just hummed the tunes while my girlfriend sang them. I caught bits of lines she missed and she got bits of lines i missed making it easy to 100% and gold star these songs.
If you only have 1 mic then just try the humming through the mic, it's amazing how much better you do by humming, especially on long sustained notes.
The hardest song was Letterbomb as it's the shortest and any mistake will be punished but the 3 longer songs the gold star cut-off is actually considerably lower than the maximum possible score as determined by the leaderboards. For example Homecoming cuts off at 482,000 but the highest possible score (so far) is 546,604 and Are We The Waiting cuts off at 255,000 but the highest possible score is 291,324 so there's still room for mistakes on these ones.
The only other thing i'll say is stick with it. Don't expect to nail them 1st time. Every failed attempt will warm your vocal chords up and familiarise you with the song or tune. Whether you're singing or humming you WILL get better.
Hope this helps someone, any questions feel free to ask.
I got it legit, but I nebver would've thought that the solo vocals would register 2 or even 3 different singers, it's brilliant.
"Give Me Novacaine / She's a Rebel": 196,400
"Homecoming": 294,000
"Letterbomb": 168,800
"Are We the Waiting / St. Jimmy": 160,500
The only one giving me a bit of pause at the moment is "Homecoming", mostly because of the length...so it takes longer to reset once you fail to Gold Star and start up again.
Since you're playing on Bass, you need to play fairly close to perfect (the GS's I have so far have been between 100-98%) and require smart usage of Overdrive.
Thankfully the songs in question feature fairly repetitive patterns that are easy to get the hang of if you are familiar with alt-strumming on guitar. So build up your Overdrive and then unleash it on the long alt-strumming sections. This is especially the case with "Letterbomb" and "Give Me Novacaine/She's a Rebel".
Good luck!
EDIT: I can confirm that Band Gold Stars count towards this achievement (Similiar to how Band ratings count towards the other Star related ones), so if you are having difficulty boosting your score high enough it may be a good idea to find a at least a second expert guitarist or drummer and go for a Gold Star as a band.
I ended up finding three expert bandmates in Quickplay and we Gold Starred "Homecoming" on our first try with about 2.6/2.8 million. Was watching the notes so I didn't see the exact moment the Gold Stars popped up.

I can get 5 or gold stars every Green Day song on Vocals, so I record myself singing these songs.
You can use it as a guide, try to sync it or use it as the main harmony. I hope this can help you
Give Me Novacaine/She's a Rebel
Homecoming
Letterbomb
Are We the Waiting/St. Jimmy
We were originally having issues getting the gold on Homecoming, only pulling around ~475,000. When we switched to doing harmonies, we pulled ~540,000.
It was still close on Letterbomb, so the other options will probably work just as well. It ended up being 100% and getting about 165,000 with 7 out of 8 doubles.

This is the trophy that may give you a bit of trouble as most of these are the hardest songs in the game
"Give Me Novacaine/She's a Rebel" Is probably easiest to gold star if you sing, the gold star cut off for this song is about 266,000
"Homecoming" Is easiest to goldstar while singing, is would be best to have another singer to make sure you get all the notes. Just make sure you use over drive at the right times when the phrases are short like when Tre is singing. The gold star cut off for this song is about 482,000
"LetterBomb" Is easiest to goldstar while playing bass, this will take a bit of practise to get at first but as long as you activate overdrive at the fast notes you should be fine. The gold star cut off for this song is about 168,800
"Are We The Waiting?/St. Jimmy" Is easiest to goldstar while singing, try get a friend to help to make this much easier. The goldstar cut off is about 255,000
