How to unlock the Global Domination achievement in GRID 2 - Definitive Guide

The global challenges take place on 5 different locations every week, each consisting of at least 1 event.
The single events of every locations can be of course on different tracks (e.g. for Chicago "The Loop" and "Wabash Run"). Also they can have different game modes like "checkpoint" or "time attack".

By browsing the different locations you will see a leaderboard which displays your current rank across all locations if you participated in at least one event.
This leaderboard consists of all your rivals which also did at least one challenge event of this week (you don't have to compete against the whole community).
You can have a look at your rivals in a separate menu of the online mode.
However, any changes about your rivals have to be done at Codemasters RaceNet webpage and NOT through the in-game menu.
You can access the rivals section in RaceNet here:
https://racenet.codemasters.com/grid2/rivals
From there you can send requests to people from you friend list to make them your rivals, though more rivals are likely to make the task more difficult.
It can also happen that friends who play global challenges will show up on your leaderboard without adding them on RaceNet.
If you have friends on your leaderboard, the RaceNet page is also the place where you must remove them (only removing them from the friend list won't work).
Two rivals will be automatically assigned to you from Codemasters RaceNet community.
Both of them will usually change every week, but while you can't influence the so called "weekly" rival, you can do so for the "custom" rival.
You also have to do this on RaceNet in the "Rivals" section for Grid 2. Select the "custom" rival and then choose the "edit" option. Then you will be presented with some drop-down-menus where you can select the attributes you want your new rival to have e.g. "less XP than me".
You have to be aware that this changes will take effect for the next global challenge week and won't drop a current annoying rival immediately from your leaderboard.
The other spots are for friends and can be controlled entirely by you.

Unfortunately it can become a bit of luck based now, if you have rivals who will actually compete against you or not.
You can't influence that, so it makes sense to regularly check the state of the leaderboard before the current week's challenges expire.
By doing more events you can increase your points, but if no one competes against you a single event can already be sufficient to get this achievement.
You also need to be aware that your total score will be lowered when rivals beat your score (even if they remain lower ranked than yourself, this can still help other competitors to beat you).

For every event you did on a challenge you will receive points depending on how well you did.
Scoring a first place among your rivals (this includes friends that are set up as rivals) on this event will net you 2000 points.
For every position below 1st place you will get your score lowered by 200 points, e.g. 1600 points for a third place.
This points will sum up over all events of the challenge and are your score for the leaderboard.
So you don't necessarily have to win every event, as long as you're number one of the leaderboard when the challenge expires (the remaining time is displayed somewhere close to the top of the screen).

The achievement will pop when you access the global challenges menu in multiplayer mode again after the challenge has timed out with you in first place.
As a nice additional reward you will also get 30k in credits for your victory, which you can invest in new cars and upgrades.

Personally I received mine today and all challenges have been reset for another week, which implies that they time out at 12'o clock (mid day in Central European Time I think, since I'm in Berlin timezone). Though this could be subject to change in the future.

Thank you and credit goes to BipeFlyer for making me aware of the rivals issue and some other incorrect details in the previous version of my solution.

Another credit goes to ScuzzyBunny for clarifying on the rivals issue (also see comments section).

Credit goes to KnucklesNorwood for pointing out that you actually can influence one of your automatically assigned rivals and for your useful insight in the rivals issue in general.

Also I wish to give credit to Nekro Neko for correcting me with the locations (instead of challenges) and very useful insight in the points system, which determines your score.

Thank you to B A R 4 D for adding the amount of in-game credits you will receive along with this achievement.

Thank you perceptron3000 for posting the solution. I was really getting confused on how the global weekly challenges ' leaderboards work and what is required for the weekly global challenge achievement win. Upvote from me.

Just a comment to pass along. In order to remove the weekly social rivals log on to Racenet.com, choose Grid 2 from the "select games" menu (top left-hand corner of page) and then click on the rivals header. Here one can see their weekly rival + custom rival which are auto-generated each week from Racenet. You can't delete these rivals however you can "tailor make" the weekly custom rival as there is an edit function with drop down menus. I learned from last week to set the filters to "lower XP than me" as somebody lived on Grid 2 last week and racked up 98,000 + XP destroying any chance of beating them.

In order to delete the social rivals click on the banner showing the rivalry and click the "edit" button. This will remove them from the Racenet service but one will have to wait it out until Friday when the challenges reset to see this effect take place. When going for the "weekly challenge win" achievement unlock DO NOT accept any new social rivalries that may appear on your Racenet rivals' page. Your XBL friends may have no idea you're gunning for the global challenge win achievement unlock.

i thought you had to get number 1 on at least one challange so i got number 1 on five of nine challanges. what a waste of time. mascal why delete people from your friends list to get this when you dont go for achievements anymore?

Not totally true. I had a random Internet player show up on my leader lard that isn't on my friends list . He wasn't there Thursday night, but Friday morning he was. My friends all had different random people. They are random rivals. There are two random rivals and you can control for other spots.

The setup is also a PIA as you lose points if times get beat. This means that someone below you doesn't have to beat your times to move ahead as long as other people lower on the list beat your time. I lost 3,000 points over night from new friends starting to play. This lowered my score enough for the random person that appeared to beat me.

@WAFFLETRAIN7997 As long as your number one on the leaderboard of this challenge at the end, you should be fine.

@BipeFlyer That's a very important aspect. I was not aware of this issue, since I didn't have anyone competing with me. So everyone gets 2 random rivals (which should also be seen in rivals menu in online mode) and if you have bad luck, they will compete against you (as it happened to you), while I was just lucky, because they didn't in my case, right? Maybe the best solution then would be to get a score in every event and in all challenges to maximize your chance of not getting beaten.

Couple of notes...it looks like your challenges are for rivals AND anyone on your friends list playing grid 2. I had one friend I was working on online achvs with and he showed up on my leaderboard before we registered each other as rivals. Also, we managed to tie our score, so we both got the achv.

If you want to delete friends off leaderboard, beside removing off FL, you also have to remove them from social rival (if you set them up) or they stay on the friends leaderboard.

Hi freelance1986,
have you made sure that in case that it will not work (though I hope you will be lucky of course), you prepared RaceNet to pick an easier custom rival for you next week?

Is it me? I can't find any dropdown menu or edit button.

Hm, that sounds strange. I just checked it myself and it worked. Log into RaceNet by following the link I provided in the solution. Click on the second rival from the left (this is the custom one), then you can choose "edit" on the left side. On the right side of the page you should see a new menu with 4 drop-down menus. The first one with the "XP" is the most interesting one if you ask me.
Could you please try again, maybe with a different browser?

yeah ive choose my settings if i have to go another week, doesnt look like ill need to though as im now leading 7 of the 9 challenges this week.

@Little 3vil: go to racenet and click on rivals, from there you should have 6 boxes with the top left and top middle being your weekly rivals. click on the top middle one (which is your custom rival) and from there you should have 3 options to the left, one being 'edit' and change those settings.

Just a note. You have that there are 5 different challenges, this is incorrect as there are 9 challenges each week set over 5 locations. This means if you finish first in all challenges your maximum score will be 18,000.

You also mention that getting Gold/Silver/Bronze change your score. This is also wrong. You will always get a maximum of 2,000 for being first among your FL and Rivals and 200 points less for every position behind the top score.

Hi freelance1986,
I can only speculate about this, since I didn't experince that myself. Could it be that someone has beaten you in an event and you got a decrease of points for that? Cause if you raise your score by doing events you should get (plus) points as stated by Nekro Neko. I did a few events today and got 2000 for every first place and 1800 for one second place. But so far nobody has beaten my score, so I can't tell...

Can't really tell, since I already used RaceNet before on Dirt: Showdown and everything works as it should.
However if you linked your GT and have already played online it should clearly work. I assume you already accessed the rivals and global challenges menu at least once, because that's then the game connects with RaceNet?
If so I would think about reporting this to Codemasters support or on an official board of them if they have such a thing to report bugs...

Searching for rivals...
I have this too in June 2017, but I've done all the weekly challenges (apart from a DLC required one angry ) and I'm hoping it's a good thing to have no rivals here - it says I'm 1st...will try to get a rival to get Keep Your Friends Close... after. NB: Solution suggests you use that website link to get a rival or two.

Can you get this achievement even if no one shows up on the weekly leaderboard? I am the only one on my leaderboard so I am listed as 1st. I did complete each race.

It just says 'searching for rivals' for me too. I've done one event with me the only one on the leaderboard, so I guess I'll find out if it counts in due course.

edit - yes it does. Event now finished, just went to global challenge in the game and it popped. With no rivals. Nice.

@KnucklesNorwood Thx for your posting. I tried to include the most important things in my update and gave you credit for this. If you have more suggestions, pls let me know. :)

I want to have a word at people who down-vote: It would be kind if you explain WHY you down-vote and even more kind to make your suggestions/corrections before you do so. It doesn't help anyone if you hide in the shadows somewhere and say "I hate it". This solution may not be perfect now as this topic is affected by a lot of factors and somewhat complicated, but it's definitely not a one-liner and I put a lot of work in it and try to constantly improve it with the help of kind people, who post useful comments here. I would really appreciate if future (potential) down-voters would seek the dialogue first...

@Ellerkermike40
Maybe you could try another browser like Firefox, IE or Safari? Or maybe your missing a browser plugin like Adobe Flash, Shockwave?
I can't reproduce the issue here; also running Chrome and can access it without problems.
@Co0L PitBull
Hmm, the question is if you really don't had any rivals assigned or you just had nobody on your leaderboard, because nobody competed against you. Since you also connect to Racenet whenever you access the Global Challenges menu in the game, I strongly suspect the latter one, though it's difficult to find out. In the week I got the achievement I was also the only one on my leaderboard although I had the two rivals. And the following week only one of them was posting a score. So far that's 3 out 4 that did nothing (not significant though, I know). From my experience I can only say, there seems to be a good chance to get easy randoms (but you can also have bad luck instead of course...).
I would add this as first part of the solution if you really confirmed would have no rival assigned this way, but unless it's certain I can't do that...

By perceptron3000 on 08 Jun 2013 09:51
That's really weird, because the RaceNet system should assign you two rivals automatically.
0
0
By perceptron3000 on 06 Aug 2013 18:04
Well, I don't have the game anymore, but if I remember correctly that's pretty normal and happened to me, too. The leaderboard shows only people who received points during the challenges. As long as none of your rivals actually compete against you, the leaderboard will show only you in first position. The the challenge week expires you should get the achievement, if you're still on top (useful to regularly check before if you're still on number one). Hope that helps.

Hey Guys, as you may have noticed this trophy is Glitched which is a shame, I spent 6 weeks trying to get this trophy doing everything I thought I needed to do! well I rung code masters and they gave me this work around for it (it worked for me and others) I hope it works for you as well. if it does not then please let me know and I will do my best to help you.

1) Before checking the results play an online race
2) After finishing the race check the Rivals page
3) Now go to the global challenge results

It is as simple as that and as I say it does work, when you have done the 1st 2 steps, and onto the 3rd, during the loading screen into Global Domination the trophy pops then!

So I expected this to be difficult and tedious.
In fact, you can do this by yourself and without any stress.
You will most likely have to make an RaceNet account which shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes.
After that, go to Online, Events, than Global Challenge. Search for a race you like, start and end the race regardless the outcome. Wait for 1 week, check the stats after 1 week and if none of your friends/rivals happened to play this game or even beat you, the achievement will pop.
Afterwards you will also have enough money to upgrade your car for another achievement.

Global challenge mode is a portion of Grid 2 online where you compete with your friends and rivals in a series of challenges that randomize every week. Each challenge has three scores or times that that you can beat to earn a gold, silver, or bronze award. To unlock this trophy you must be in first place on the leaderboard that displays when you enter global challenge mode, you don't need to have a gold score or even complete every event that is posted (and if you dont have DLC you won't be able to anyway as there is always one global challenge that requires DLC), as long as you are first on the leaderboard you will be fine. But completing each event with a gold will increase your chances of being first on the leaderboard.

There is a chance that it might not pop up when it is supposed to at the end of the week so make a backup save before checking the global challenge section once the week is over. If it doesn't popup, delete your save and replace it with your backup file. Keep in mind that it might take a few tries but it will eventually popup.

Go To GRID Online (Multiplayer) > Events > Global Challenge. Here you will find five challenges that change every week. You earn medals (bronze, silver and gold) and points on these challenges. At the main screen you will see the Leaderboard. All you need to do is be at the top of this Leaderboard of any week. This leaderboard includes only friends, so if you’re struggling with this trophy, you can simply delete that friend who is ahead of you and earn the trophy. The “week” ends on Friday. So, get back there after another week started and the trophy should pop.

0
0

Go to "GRID Online", then "Events", then "Xbox LIVE" and select "Global Challenge". Here, you'll be able to select from 5 different events, where you can try to beat previously set targets, earning a bronze, silver or gold medal. Once you earn a medal, you will also earn some points towards the "Weekly Leaderboard" displayed in the main global challenge screen. The goal is to be ranked first, when timer in the top right hand corner expires. The timer should expire on Friday of every week. If you are having trouble getting first place, you can temporarily delete any friend from your friend's list until you unlock the achievement. If you are the only person on your leaderboard, you will still unlock the achievement, as long as you earned at least 1 bronze medal.

For the achievement to unlock, you will need to open up the global challenge menu after the timer expires. It will update you on your progress, and unlock the achievement.

When entering multiplayer, select Global Challanges and complete the challenges there; the week ends somewhere around Friday.

By the end of the week, you should outscore your friends in the overall standings. (Perhaps it works without friends)

It works without friends who have this game.
And if they are not there, then it is enough to pass one competition to win
