How to unlock the What do you mean, Drift?! achievement in GRID Legends - Definitive Guide

This one is going to be a pain in the rear as the drifting in the game is quite scuffed. You more often than not have to focus on forcing yourself to drift using the handbrake button over naturally being able to slide around like in other drifting games.

The two cars I would recommend in doing this is Silvia (first choice) and the 370Z (second choice), with the 370Z it's smaller meaning you have less chance of accidentally hitting the walls, but it's also more rigid and tougher to drift around. The silvia is longer in length, but easier to slide around.

I would avoid the Viper as it has a tendency to overspin in the hairpins.

In my tuning I set everything to low, apart from the final one which I put one notch above it.

I also had 0 Stability, 0 Traction, but 5 ABS.

I have a video explaining it fully, please let me know if it helps :)

Nope, nothing works. Had to walk away from this one before I completely lose my temper with it.

Thanks, will try using your set up. Had no problem with drifting in the base game but that was on much wider tracks...
Edit: finally did it with 370Z because Silvia was too big for me. Was close to a million 3 times when my first multiplier was x17 before the middle section, so just keep retrying until you make at least x20.

Thanks for the tips. I tried this about 10 times but just couldn't hold my steak on the straights. I turned off drift assist and ended up unlocking this my first attempt and only 33% into the race! Also used Silvia. Achievement unlocks immediately when you bank the score.

this achievement is a fucking joke, especially the track.

I couldn't get it with the Silvia or 370Z. Ended up doing it in Viper, used the same tuning as the one in the guide.

Silvia with tuning from guide and keep "chain multi", about 40% of distance you should have x20+ combo and about 30-35k points. End up with 1,7mln score. It was easier for me, switching to manual gearbox and stay on 4th gear all the distance.

Stylin, in advanced settings make sure mechanic upgrades are on. I think that was a slight error in my part

Thanks for the reply, but I got it w/o adjusting that. I used the Lancer. I found it the easier to get the "mini-drifts" to extend the combos where there weren't really corners. I used your setup of all stuff to the left but the final setting.

The Lancia was perfect. Tried it every day and didn't even come close. Manual on gear 4 and the Lancia did the trick. Easier to keep the chain going. Was at 50% with 980k and did the last 20k on the next 20%.

Silvia with everything set to the minimum and manual gear (4) did the trick. rock

Great advice from Colin84PL in the comment above, thanks for that! I finally managed it with the Subaru BRZ.

Can this be done with automatic or is it with shitty manual gears only.

Do manual, go to 4th gear and never change it. Easier than automatic.

Looks like another grid game I won’t be 100%. I hate having to use crappy manual gears.

I did do it on automatic, Goggs! Don't give up, keep at it. If anyone can do it, it's definitely you.

Got this after probably 2 dozen attempts and all the cars sampled. Even trying all the cars, the Silva is what I got it with, and all the mentioned tuning/settings. One addition I’ll mention is if you don’t have approximately 800k by the 50% mark, you’ll have a much harder time getting the remainder in the final 50% which has a lot of straights and uphill.

If you're struggling with either the length or the wildness of the Silvia, try the 370Z. It's more rigid, so a bit easier to control, but really good at picking up the mini-drifts that keep your chain going. I had 1.1m a few bends after the bridge (about 45% in), banked my score and the achievement popped.

Agree with above comments, if you haven't got most of the score by the uphill section after the bridge, give it a restart. Apart from one section near the end, sector 1 is easily the best place to build a multiplier.

This was not hard at all, got it first try with over 1.4mill points ( 44k points with 33x combo) before the bridge at 50%. I drove the 370Z with the recommended tuning setup, and used the handbrake to initiate and hold drifts, mostly in 3rd gear. Just don't hit a wall, play it safe and work on increasing your combo and you're good, I even lost my combo after the first few corners..
You got this guys, I believe in you ;)

This was hard but it's all in the first half. You can bank 700k and then coast home. Keep the combo going. I actually stuck with the viper it had the power the other cars didn't but that could be my driving style. I played alot with the suggested car but it just lacked the power...granted it was way easier to control.

Thank you for saving my lovely television from having a controller buried deeply within it's glowing panel. Strangely enough after more than one hundred runs and some disturbingly blue swear words I changed the tuning settings on the Silvia to be all set to medium, except for the gear ratio as 'short'. I guess it all depends on an individual's technique and feel. To celebrate, I left my AE86 parked unlocked in a nearby underground garage and taped several signs on nearby lamp posts inviting the local hobos and winos to come enjoy a free 'soup kitchen'. When that was all over I loaded all of my Initial D VHS tapes into the car and gave them a light soaking of 98 octane Shell V-Power. The bonfire was both enjoyable to watch and generally a therapeutic experience to boot. I am never ever buying another Grid title that involves drift events. Thank you for your guide!

I just got it with the Silvia with the recommended tune settings, I would recommend turning off drift assist as it allows you to slide smoother through the corners.

Did it with the 370z. I tried with the Silvia several, several times before deciding to change. The smaller size made a huge difference, since in some spots the road is rather tight and it gives you an overall larger error margin. And to be honest, it didn't feel like it was much harder to drift in it, so the tradeoff was well worth it imo. Also I didn't even change the 370z's tuning.

Subaru BRZ Drift-Tuned with only 4th gear, rel. soft Setup Tuning and slow speed - lost my multiplier every time until i went much more slowly... Just rise the multiplier with little mini drifts and try to get a few points in the longer corners - not an easy snack, but keep trying!

I was really worried about this achievement when i read the comments and thought i be spending +10 hours on this achievement but to my surprise i got it in less than 15 tries. I used nissan 370z with drift assist off. One thing that no one mentioned that really helped me was to use both brake and handbrake. If u only use handbrake the car spin or goes out if control in narrow road. If u only use brake the car wont go to full drift and just slide and doesn’t really give scores. So i just tapped brake then did handbrake and it was so smooth to score drift and keep the combo alive in narrow road. Definitely do practice run and memorize from which angle to initiate drift specially for the first 30% of the road . I also kept the manual gear at 4. Good luck everyone 🍀
Btw i scored 1.093 million without really trying using this method.

small tip from my own experience - if you struggle with this and pro drift cars are just too wild for you in this event switch for clubman drift. after many tries and fails I decided to try something different. went to clubman drift and used Subaru BRZ. that was a HUGE difference for me and after few tries I managed to get 1.3 mln.
the car is slower, but short and very easy to control. you can wave your tale in straights to keep your combo alive. I used the very same setup mentioned in the video above, ABS 5, TCS and SMT 0 + manual gear box helped a lot as well, lock the 4th gear at the start.
good luck.

If like me, you really, really couldn’t get to grips with the Nissan Silva or the 350z, the main issue may be the overall speed of the vehicles.

I found this guide and set up with all credit going towards Griffins Gaming Guides for this:

Race Creator:
Discipline: Drift
Class: Clubman Drift
Vehicle: Subaru BRZ Drift-Tuned
Location: Okutama Sprint
Route: Drift Stage - Full Route

Vehicle Tuning:
Gear Ratio: Short
Springs: Soft
Dampers: Soft
Anti-Roll Bars: Soft
Brake Bias: Left 1. Towards Rea

Gameplay Options > Diffcult
Transmission: Automatic
ABS: 5
Traction Control: 0
Stability Control: 0
Drift Mode - Counter Steer Assist: On

Bear with this vehicle, I struggled to bank 15,000 on my first run, 50,000 on the second. By the 5th attempt I was hitting 500,000 and by the 15th I was hitting 850,000.
If you chain your combos well, by the first bridge (32%) You can average around a 20x combo with 30,000 - 40,000 points. (300,000/600,00)
The last tunnel (80%) onwards is where you can make most of your points on this track so without any faults here, you can easily get between 200,000 - 400,000. This achievement takes a lot of patience due to its wonky Drift design!

Since in this mode there is no time limit for completing the route, I advise you to use similar tactics and accumulate the maximum combo.

I did it at the suggestion of Lewis_Rocknrolla, but on the 370Z and the gear ratio to the left all the way because on other cars there was simply not enough acceleration dynamics, I did not have time to get to the next turn and accelerate even with a forced skid on the handbrake to save the multiplier. For me, the advantage of the 370Z was that it was easy to drift a long turn, while other cars either lost a lot of speed because I had to make a smaller angle to get drift points or straighten out for the sake of speed. On this car, drifting is more or less similar to drifting, and not sliding on a handbrake.

The following hint will easily simplify the task:
Set the settings to manual transmission.
Next, we start the race and immediately switch to 4th gear. We no longer increase or decrease.
We do all the drifting in 4th gear.
