How to unlock the Around the Globe achievement in GRID - Definitive Guide

If you don't have a Cronus or similar gadget, this is not for you.

Here is a totally hands-off AFK Cronus script for this achievement. You just need to press one button!

Activate it by pressing cn_X. Use it on the Indianapolis Oval Circuit (not the reverse one). I think you should be able to use any car with this macro, but I used the Porsche 917/30. (TheIcemanCometh used the Bugatti Veyron and seems to have better success with it. According to him you can change the throttle from "set_val(XB1_RT, 80)" to 100 in the script below)

The set up should be as follows:

Game Mode: Free Play
Vehicle Category: Invitational
Vehicle Class: Group 7 Specials
Grid Size: 1
Laps: 99
Make all 5 Events the same.

I have added some lines to the script that will auto-start the next round for you after each 99 lap race. So, if you set up 5 events, the script will go through all 5 of them for you. It takes 3.6h per 99 laps and around 18h for all 5 events. You can entirely AFK the whole thing. (go to sleep, go to work, hell... go on vacation)

If you start the script before you go to bed and let it run through your workday, you'll get around 4-5% of your total achievement distance finished every day with the push of only one button.

The script will pull you to the right every few seconds so that you'll keep grinding the outside wall and don't end up crashing on the inside of the track. Speed is reduced to 80%, since at 100% you would end up bouncing off the wall weirdly after about 2 hours on the track.

int turbo = 0;
main {
if (event_press(XB1_X)) {
turbo = !turbo;
}
if (turbo) {
combo_run(Turbo_1);
} else {
combo_stop(Turbo_1);
}
}

combo Turbo_1 {
set_val(XB1_RT, 80);
wait(1800);
set_val(XB1_RT, 0);
wait(40);
set_val(XB1_LX, 80);
wait(200);
set_val(XB1_LX, 0);
wait(40);
set_val(XB1_A, 100);
wait(40);
set_val(XB1_A, 0);
wait(40);
}
If anyone has suggestions on how to improve the macro, I will gladly include them. According to the Xbox Live stats, this took me 350h.

Based on my experience the last couple of days, I would suggest using the Bugatti Veyron. It's in the DLC and will likely be worth it for the amount of time you'll spend doing this if you decide to go this route. I think it was $1.3MM, so should be very affordable if you wait to do this until after everything else is done.

This is a better car than the Porsche since it's significantly sturdier and can actually handle the script being at 100% throttle (it can do 2:00 laps at 100%). There was not a day that went by for me with the Porsche at 80% where it didn't wind up in the grass somewhere stuck, and not only that, there were many occasions where it would get tossed after bouncing against the walls such that it would get turned around and go the opposite direction and get DQ'd. I'd get up and check it in the morning and it would be significantly farther than it should have been and that was the only explanation that fit.

Good luck to everyone that tries this. I'm at 40% right now. And a big FU to Codemasters for putting this abomination in the game. And yes, I know I'm choosing to do this, and I'm putting myself through this nonsense. shock

Done as of today, 02 Aug 2022.

"Away from keyboard" or in this case "away from controller". Among other functions, the CronusMax or CronusZen can run scripts for you automatically in a loop. Look them up online.

The question is, can I justify spending 90-110 for a device that'll make this achievement a cake walk?

Yea, at the moment they're quite expensive because of the chip shortage and other issues.
I got mine 5 years ago for 45$.

Copy and paste it into the "compiler scripts" tab. You must save it. As soon as you do, it will show up in the "compiler scripts" section in the "programmer tab". Then drag it to one of the memory slots and press "program device".

It works, thumbs up! While a standard lap takes about 35 sec., a cronused lap takes about 2:00 min. I might rather play myself when at home but hey: It's okay for AFK! Thx!!!

I don't know why people downvoted this. It works, and it works well (yeah, it's still going to take forever doing it). I suppose because it's "not for everyone" even though you clearly state that at the start. +1 from me.

The script works perfectly, it is very easy to use. I bought a Cronus for the occasion (30e) that I will surely sell. The script is quickly imported on the Cronus, the game is set up and it's off for long hours. The console should run day and night for the next 15 days and the success should unlock.
Thanks a million for sharing the code

I just got this done today, going with the 100% throttle and Bugatti Veyron adjustments. I also experimented a bit with the duration of the throttle burst, that is, the original line below:

wait(1800);

I tried various values incrementing by 600ms each time. I eventually settled on a value of 6600 instead of 1800. It lost a bit of reliability, due to the increased distance between corrections to the right, so it would sometimes get stuck driving against a wall and making no progress. Sometimes progress would be reduced at the end of a 5x99 race series, I assume due to a disqualification along the way.

But it makes for an average lap of about 1:42, so saves about 20 seconds per lap on what is possible with the 1800 value. If you are driving ~35,000km of the 40,075km required this way, it will save you quite a few nightly runs overall.

My fellow completionists, don’t worry because there IS a way to do this without going crazy. I guess.

Ok so what you need:
-grid
-used xbox controller
-rubber band or your girlfriend’s hair tie thingy
-something to watch/do
-patience

Once you have all of the above, here’s what you need to do:
-free play
-indianapolis oval circuit
-99 laps
-bugatti veyron SS
-rubber band cn_RT and start race
-grab some snacks, find something to watch/do for the next 142 mins because that’s how long one race takes, but don’t go too far because you have to
-move cn_RS every 14 mins so your controller doesn’t turn off
-repeat 85 times (considering you have somewhat finished story mode)

Yep, EZ. Hope this makes it more fun.

This is a controller-friendly method. No cn_RS were harmed during boost. Requires your attention instead.

@Crimsonverse THANK YOU! I almost came on here to tell you this wasn't working...I didn't have a clue what you were talking about because it just kept rebinding RT (or R2 for me as I'm on the PS4 version). But it does in fact work, you just have to be really quick with it when you let go and repress again.

This works perfectly fine!

For me I just also had to put a rubber band to the left stick as well, as the car was going to the left on the straights after every turn and kept hitting the wall and then driving either into the wall or the wrong direction.
So I just made the car constantly turn into the wall. Also connecting your controller to the console with cable is definetly the best way for letting it go for hours before you have to reset the race.

Solution works great. Have tried it with rubber banding the trigger and just turning. Ended up doing the event in 73 minutes with a best lap of just over 44 seconds. You're spending half your time grinding against the walls. Would recommend that you occasionally turn and play the race just to save a little time

If you don't have a rubber band (or don't want to use one), there is a way to keep the car constantly accelerating.

Head to Options, then Controls. Choose to edit the controller profile. In the "Input Bindings" section, head to Accelerate and hold down RT. While holding down RT, hit A to activate the binding process. Let go of RT, then quickly press RT again. This will set the binding to "Inverse RT", meaning the car will accelerate without any RT input.

If you want to be safe, you can remove every other binding, although this isn't required.

I am doing this with F1000 (formula) - time 154 min, but in Vehicle Class you must change in first menu to Invitational to be able to choose this formula. Edit: Bcs of following comment, I was doing this with makro keyboard (but I think throttle should be the same, dont see reason why not). Edit2: Test it with rubber band, the same result

Adding to Riled Wolf's guide

There are a few ways to do this.

If you want to do the most distance per race, you can do Okutama GP Grand Circuit or Grand Circuit B being 3.92mi/6.21km long. This will require 64 99 lap races plus a further 17 laps to complete max, with no distance travelled.

If you want to complete races as quickly as possible, you can do either:
• Indianapolis Oval Circuit or Reversed - 2.54mi/4.09km (99 99 lap races plus 3 extra laps maximum), or
• Crescent Valley Oval Circuit - 2.52mi/4.06km (99 99 lap races plus 81 extra laps maximum)

However the number of 99 lap races to complete will be much less as you play through Career, making some progress towards the achievement as you go.

If you take no breaks, travel 126mph on average per lap (making a 99 lap race take just under 2 hours), and exclude loading times and all that, it'd take you 185.6 hours to do 93 99 lap races of Indianapolis

By FireWheels58 on 29 Oct 2019 16:36
FireWheels why are you doing math using 126mph? Nearly every car in the game can do more than that. You can do 285mph on the straights and 240+ through the turns averaging 250-260 in one of the Group 7 cars. It's still a grind, but nowhere near the same grind as only doing 126mph. Don't use the Prototype cars either because that's adding dozens of hours to it also with their low top speed.

Now I'm only averaging about 90mph with my wall-riding macro so it'll take something like 300+ hours for that, but I have it running 24/7 while I sleep, play other games, work, etc. Up to 82% but now they broke the game so I'm stuck till they fix it.

I bet if you write the macro so that you only slightly pull to the left, it might be possible to sustain a wall-ride for an extended amount of time.
Once I get the game, I will try to write a macro and post it here, if it works

Man here I was thinking that the AI was the most horrendously obnoxious part of this game, but nope. This achievement destroys it by orders of magnitude. Finished everything in the game and only at 6% so basically you have to do everything at least 20 times. What a horrific achievement.

Requirement:
This Achievement is unlocked by driving a total distance in-game of 40,075km.

What to do first:
Before you even consider attempting this Achievement it is recommended that you take care of every other Achievement in the game first as the driving for all of those will contribute towards this total and leave you with less to do.

Depending on how many times you had to complete races for Career and other races, you should be somewhere between 10 and 15% progress for Around the Globe.

Event setup:
Once you're ready to take on this Achievement you need to find a way to make this task as short as possible, as it is a very long-term goal and any gains you make now will shave hours off your time.

Head into Freeplay and set up an Event with the following:

Vehicle Category: Invitational
Vehicle Class: Group 7 Specials
Grid Size: 1
Track: Crescent Valley
Route: Oval Circuit
Laps: 99
Recommended car: Porsche 917/30

This is the car with the highest top speed in the game, and you can loan a copy for free.

What to do:
Once the track loads go into Tuning and set the Gearing slider all the way to the right so that you have a higher top speed.

After that, you're running laps, lots of them. A 99 lap race will take about an hour to complete, and increase your completion percentage by about 1%.

Depending on how much you've done in the past you're looking at between 85 and 100 hours for this Achievement alone, as you repeat this 99 lap event.

Things to consider:
You can also try the following track:

Track: Indianapolis
Route: Oval Circuit
Laps: 99
The laptime on both Indianapolis and Crescent Valley is near identical (around 35.2 seconds) however Crescent Valley may be easier to drive as its corners are banked and not as sharp.

You may also want to consider adding a few AI cars to your Events. When you catch up to one you will gain a speed boost down the straights, but be careful as they may hold you up in the corners.

Finally, set Damage to Visual Only and Terminal Damage to Off. This can be done within the pause menu > Gameplay > Difficulty. That way you won't have to deal with a slower/damaged car if you happen to crash.

Unless you're using a Chronos Max as mentioned in another Solution there is no way to automate or shortcut this Achievement, so find some ways to make the long road ahead more bearable. My recommendation is muting the TV and sticking some podcasts on.

Good luck.

This is a huge grind and will be where the majority of the time will be spent in earning the . You will need to drive a total of 24901miles / 40075km. You can track your current total within the player profile section under statistics. By the time I had finished all career trophies and also all DLC trophies I had driven a total of 1950miles/3138km. There are two suggested methods for going for this trophy, both will take a large amount of time.

Method A – Player controlled:

Under free play select the following setup:
Vehicle: Invitational
Vehicle class: Group 7 Specials
Track: Indianapolis
Route: Oval Circuit
Laps: 99
Grid size: 1
Vehicle: Porsche 917/30
You will be able to finish the 99 laps in just over an hour and the total mileage added will be 251.46miles. Under the assumption that you’re at 2000miles/3218km by the point of completing everything else in the game this method will take in the region of 90-100 hours.

Method B – AFK Rubber band:

Under free play select the following setup:
Vehicle: Seasons
Vehicle class: Track Day Hypercar
Track: Indianapolis
Route: Oval Circuit
Laps: 99
Grid size: 1
Vehicle: Bugatti Veyron (You must own the season 3 DLC)

Tuning settings as follows:
Gear Ratio -2
Springs +1
Dampers +1
Anti-Roll Bars +1
Brake Bias 0

You will be able to finish the 99 laps in roughly 2 hours and 25 minutes and the total mileage added will be 251.46miles. Under the assumption that you’re at 2000miles/3218km by the point of completing everything else in the game this method will take in the region of 220 hours. Using this method you will need to setup a rubber band to hold down , then walk away leaving your console running. You can then come back every 2 hours and 25 minutes to set a new race going. Be aware that occasionally the Bugatti will get stuck and therefore not finish the race. This doesn't occur very often at all so nothing to be particularly worried about.

Credit to Lightsp33d1987 for posting the AFK method here: LINK

There is a further AFK method which can be used if you have access to remote play. Credit to thedarkness91 for detailing the instructions in the following linked thread: LINK

My tip is to go to options and change race length to the maximum option. It will take you longer to clear the career trophies, but less repetition of the 99 laps at Indianapolis. I've almost finished career and I'm at 5500 miles, and I didn't realise this trick until I started the second set of events. Factoring in the dlc events and trophies I reckon you could be at 8000 miles with this method leaving about 17000 to go which doesn't seem as bad as if you left race length on default

22 Mar 2021 21:52

Assuming this is going by the Earth's circumference at the equator then the distance you will need to drive is 24,901.461 miles or 40,075.017 km

However the number of 99 lap races to complete will be much less as you play through Career, making some progress towards the trophy as you go.
