How to unlock the Race Driver achievement in GRID - Definitive Guide
If you drive like in a Forza Horizon or NFS game, this should come like a breeze. You can get drift, near miss, undercut combos and so on. Also without damage, you get ~3k points per race (avg 2/3 laps) with no effort.
However, if you are more on the sim-like side (Forza Motorsport, Project Cars*), disabling all the assistances, enabling damage, you get stuck with the Racing Line, Good Corners and Fast Lap combos only. This gets you roughly 1.5k points per race.
FYI, I finished all career events with gold, repeating 10 races max, and ended up at 66 level. I drove simulator style.
What I recommend: have fun! Drive at your own peace/style. If you own the DLC, when finishing career you should have already achieved level 99.
If you wanna grind XP faster, do it together with the Around the Globe cheevo: set up 10 laps on a oval track (e.g. Indianapolis), get fast lap + proximity + race line + good corner combos. Also, keep AI on Hard level, so you can always have one pushing in front to draft and switch positions. Lastly, a GRID Edition car gives you 10% extra XP.
Why only 10-lap sessions? Cause there is a limit (5000 points) on how much XP you can get in each category (speed, skill and bravery) per race.
*yes, I know you gonna say these aren't sims, but you get my point.
You earn XP for most actions within a race such as overtaking, near misses, drafting, drifting etc. Following completion of a race the game will take you to a screen which shows your XP earned for the race, your rank up, any unlocks and also any milestones completed.
By the time you finish all career events you will likely be between rank 70 & 90. However there is absolutely no need to grind specifically for XP as you will gain more than enough while grinding for the Around the Globe trophy. From the methods detailed under Around the Globe you will earn between 5500 & 6500 XP per 99 lap race using method A. You will earn in excess of 8500 XP per 99 lap race using method B.
