How to unlock the "Thick, black, nauseating fumes..." achievement in Grim Fandango Remastered - Definitive Guide

This is missable if you just keep pressing 'A' to skip the conversation. Choose the conversation about him having a nice hut. Then keep choosing the conversations that talks about him.

should be done before "Scaring the living..." cause it can block this one

Correct, don't start mentioning Glottis being your driver. Mention the hut first, wait for the cheevo and the proceed the conversation about him being your driver.

Tried this three times now and its not unlocked. Any recommendations?

After asking glottis about his name I was left with only a few options that pushed the story along, if you tell glottis to get back to his shack the achievement may unlock ( it did for me)
