How to unlock the Taste for fire achievement in Grim Idle (Xbox One) - Definitive Guide

This does need to be all at once and the only way that candles drop is by defeating champions (enemies with a start above their head). Playing from Zone 1 to Zone 10 will get you a little over 50.

However, you are awarded candles when you come back to the game after a period of time. The amount of candles you get depends on how long you were away from the game. I booted the game back up after about 24 hours when the update hit and I was given 100 candles upon starting the game so this insta-unlocked for me.

You can try that approach to get yourself a ton of candles all at once! If you don't quite get 100, play a bit more and kill champions to get over 100 cumulative at once.

I returned to the game after 7 days and got zero candles. Idk if I did something wrong, but if this also has happened to you all you need to do is get to and beat the dragon on area 10. Getting to him will give you 55 candles from the champions and beating him will get you over 50. Save some blue energy potions to use there to help defeat him.

Are you sure you quit out fully? From the game I pressed the start button and then quit to menu. I then exited the game and closed it so it wasn’t in quick resume. When I loaded the game up today I was able to get candles and rubies again as there will be a “time loop” section you can click. This worked in both the X|S version and the Xbox One version. I got 124 in one and 84 in the other game.

Yes i had quit out fully. The issue might have been that that was the Series version, and I normally play on my Xb one. They share cords, so that usually means the Series S isn't plugged in. But I did pop the return to game achievement when loading in so idk.

I don't remember seeing the time loop on the Series version or maybe I clicked outside of it and didn't get to claim the benefits. The Xb one version I do remember seeing the time loop and got over 100 candles.

It all worked out either way as killing the boss on Series version granted me the last chest I needed anyways.
