How to unlock the Handyman achievement in Grim Idle - Definitive Guide
Upgrading items and weapons requires metal. Dissembling items and weapons rewards metals.
Simply buy the cheapest weapons or items you can afford, dissemble them and upgrade your starting dagger. You should also unlock 1 or 2 free chests, that will contain weapons and/or items. It cost 27 iron at the time, which required 2 weapons to be dissembled.

Under your inventory you can change tabs. There should be one for upgrading and one for disassembling. You'll need to have you weapons unequipped to disassemble and upgrade.

I have no clue how to do this.

The easiest way to do this is with chests, so this guide relies on that.
You get candles from defeating champions. Once you have 20, perform the ritual to turn your candles into wax, which you can use at the shop to buy a key, unlocking a Rich Chest.
Another chest you can get is a celestial chest, though I'm not clear on how to acquire them. However, I did unlock one in both versions of the game.
The boss chest you get from beating bosses. To get one, I recommend getting your strength to level 3 and the Flame Flow to level 9. Each time I use it, you throw 9 streams of fire. Each individual stream currently has a DPS of 1.7 million. It costs 20 MP to use, and the boss has 72 million HP. You only have a few minutes to beat it, so watching the Flame Flow melt it's HP in a minute was insane!
Anyway, to upgrade the No Name, you need 27 iron. However, so weapons require less iron, like I had 36 iron but made the mistake of dismantling an item before upgrading my No Name. To get the iron, open your inventory, then press . Next, press three times to get to dismantle, then press twice.
In order to upgrade a weapon, it needs to be in your inventory (not equipped), which meant I had to wait until I could open another chest.
But then I realized I hadn't purchased the key yet, so I did that, and the weapon from the Richard Chest I drew only needed 6 iron, so I upgraded it twice. Now it's base damage is 990, and at level 34, its total damage is 164.4K+990 for 165.2K.
