How to unlock the Mementos achievement in GRIS - Definitive Guide

There are mementos (bigger circles with a dot in the middle) hidden in levels 1-5. When you beat the game you can use chapter select (there are 2-3 checkpoints per chapter) to clean up any you missed.

Once you get a memento, it is saved and you can hit start and go to chapter select to get any others you might need. You do not need to finish the level. As you progress through the levels you'll see graphics on the walls that indicate which mementos you found in each level. Mementos you haven't found will be greyed out. Using the memento tracking from the wall carvings and this text guide on Steam, you can identify what level and checkpoint you need to go to in order to get the mementos you are missing with as little backtracking as possible.

The text guide is actually for all achievements but it was particularly helpful in cleaning up the mementos for this achievement.

Thank you for this. I thought I was following the guide exactly, but somehow missed the 3rd memento in the turtle stage. Had no idea where to even begin. This definitely helped!

this seems to be possible to bug out. Dont know what did but I 100% have ever memento, all the "gates" have all the orbs lit, and double checked them all. the wall at the end of the game shows I'm missing two, but I'm left with no way to get them without resting my whole save.

Chapter 1 Memento 2 is likely one a lot of people miss since you have to backtrack for it after you get the swim ability. It's easiest to get after you finish the game using Chapter select. Load the last Chapter, then walk off to the lower left and if you see a leaning tower icon with a missing dot, you missed it. Keep going left into the water and it's not too hard to spot in the water when you're swimming around.

Mementos are the collectible in this game that spans all chapters. There are 28 in total, and they are glowing circular runes. As noted in the roadmap, if you miss any, you can use Chapter Select (which is only available after beating the game) to replay chapters to mop up what you missed. All mementos save as soon as you pick them up, so if you're using Chapter Select to find ones you missed, as soon as you grab one you can jump to another chapter.

Below is first a video guide showing all collectibles, followed by a breakdown of which part of each chapter they're in. After personally using a couple different text guides, I can say most are pretty ineffective. It's tough to describe some locations, and I missed a bunch from trying to use text guides and still enjoy the game. I therefore recommend the video guides below, courtesy of Game Guides Channel.

The Chapter Select feature lets you start from specific checkpoints of each chapter. This is really helpful for mopping up missed mementos, but only if you know which checkpoint to start from. So, I've gone ahead and listed out where to start from to make mop up as easy as possible, for those who missed any or who preferred to do a blind playthrough first. When replaying a chapter, right as you enter the chapter location is a wall that shows how many mementos you've found in that chapter, and which ones. Make note of which ones you're missing (for example, numbers 3 and 5), and use the videos and listings below to track them down.

To track which memories you don't have, look at the pictures at the beginning of the chapters. There will be a schematic representation of the level and burning and non-burning circles. They match the numbering with those in the video from the main tip

An important point is that to save progress, you don't have to replay the level to the end if you missed a memory. After receiving a memory, a save occurs, which updates your overall progress.
