Upgrades are bought in the shop for gold earnt by killing enemies or opening the coin chests. Not all upgrades are available from the start, INTENSO only becomes available after you learn it.
This achievement should come as you play assuming you collect the chest along the playthrough and don't skip every chance to fight as gold is reasonably plentiful.

While not essential for the achievements, i would recommend saving for the stun boost, INTENSO shield breaker and then stamina boost/delay boosts first. Also the coop respawns ONLY effect coop so usless unless you are running through the game with a partner.

There's a small exploit You can do to get 320 coins per 40 second run. All You need to do is purchase the piñata costume, equip it, then acquire the goat climb. Right after You get the goat climb there will be a section where You're falling while collecting coins. After You land, goat climb the left wall to the top. Clear the gap with a double jump, upwards dash, and a dash to the right. Save, then quit out and repeat the process.
