Defeated the Great Temple's two Lightning Skeleton arenas on Hard, in co-op (or as Jaguar)

How to unlock the Greatest Tag-Team in History achievement in Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition - Definitive Guide

Clear the two Lightning Skeleton Arenas in the Great Temple, either solo playing as Jaguar, or co-op playing as any characters.

If you have a cleared game save on Hard, load that up and head to one of the stone faces. Warp to the Great Temple, and head to the two locations on the map where the arenas take place.

Even though arenas don't respawn, the devs have re-triggered these two with the update so that you don't have to run all the way back through the game again, provided you never deleted your Hard mode clear file. However, you only get ONE shot at the achievement, so if you clear either of the two arenas by yourself without using the Jaguar character, you WILL have to go back through the game on hard.

Make sure to get your Intenso meter filled up, then trigger the first fight. As soon as the four-armed ground pounder enemy spawns, immediately activate Intenso and take him out ASAP. The faster you kill him, the fewer lightning skeletons you have to deal with.

For the second arena, again make sure your Intenso meter is full before starting. Clear the first few enemies. As soon as the hammer enemies spawn, activate Intenso and try to knock one of them down into the corner on the bottom level, opposite any remaining enemies from the first wave, so that it is besinde the hammer enemy that spawns in that corner. Fight these two in the corner away from the other enemies. Take out any remaining enemies from the first wave, then try to take out one of the remaining two hammer ones before the lightning skeletons spawn. Once they spawn, fight the two of them in the corner furthest from the final hammer enemy. After they're dead, finish off the 4th hammer enemy and nab your achievement.

So I'm saying the same thing and everyone is down voting me lol. If you beat it doesn't retrigger.

For what it's worth I'll confirm what you're saying.

I had completed the game on hard so used my completed save yesterday and used the Javier Jaguar costume to clear the two Lightning Skeleton arenas. The achievement popped after clearing the second arena.

I loaded up my hard save today and revisited the two arenas with Javier Jaguar and the arenas do not start up.

In short New Paralyzer is correct. If the arenas trigger and you are not using Javier Jaguar, and you clear the arenas, you may have to replay the game on hard to get this achievement.

Even shorter. Make sure you use Javiar Jaguar to clear these arenas!

I don't think that's why folks are downvoting Paralyzer. It might be because you had already cleared the arenas, so your video wasn't really showing much beyond what you were saying, which was 'don't clear the arenas without using Jaguar because once they're gone, they're gone'.

I get lots of downvotes at times too if my solution doesn't truly give any assistance on the achievement at hand. Sometimes I take them down in that case, and sometimes I don't, it just depends. For what it's worth your solution led to mine so I would upvote you if I could. I can't since I posted one though.

Sorry for bringing the debate on to your guide but at the time of posting NewParalyzer's guide wasn't visible (to me at least).

The reasons why people downvote can be myriad and strange, but I think his point still stands unless someone can get the arenas to repeat after clearing them on a complete save. I couldn't and thought it was worth a mention.

Maybe it's just because I'm out of practice after not playing for a long time, but this is frustratingly hard. I can barely even kill the first two guys, every time a bomb shows up I keep getting knocked away before I can get to it

Frustrating but doable didn't needed to use the intenso on the second arena! But it will make things easier, but you can still be hut in intenso, i forgot that the first time ;)

A small tip: for anyone scared of screwing this up or doing the 2 controller trick. Unplug your network connection and try to complete the achievement. Once you complete the 2 zones, delete your save file on your console and pug back in your network cable and load up the game, This will pull the old save file from the cloud... The chevo should pop upon loading the game. If not this will allow you to try multiple times.

Can you die?

I died plenty of times so yes you can die. Took me about 12 deaths to do both Arenas. There is a pattern to each one. The hardest arena is the first one but once you get the method it is doable.

My main issue is that I 100%'d on NORMAL but did a speed run on HARD so my intenso and health meter are super small. I'm guessing I should go back and collect more chests :/

I'm fully upgraded and I still can't get it done. How am I supposed to dodge and at the same time jump up to kill the exploders?

Somehow I got to the pounder once. Even with Intenso, it took too long to beat him, so a ton of new lightning guys came out.

I wish they hadn't patched the health regen glitch.

For the exploder part I would dodge the other enemies making sure I dodged toward the exploder spawn, then use the uppercut move to hit the exploder. If you're struggling, make sure your intenso isnt just filled enough to use but a comletely full bar so that when the pounder spawns you can activate it and just spam the dash move back and forth on him so that he never even has a chance to pound.

You change costumes at any of the save stations. Choose Costumes in the popup menu. Once you own the Frenemies pack, you should see the character choices among the other costumes.

Has anyone tried doing this in co-op? Wouldn't it be a lot easier?

Just a reminder, if you accidentally did one of the arenas with a wrong character make sure you do the second one correctly. After you defeat the boss the one arena I missed in the earlier section got reset and I was able to do it correctly with the right character. It turns out only the arenas you didnt do correctly for the achievement reset. Hope it helps

For anyone struggling in the pounder arena.
Exploders cant kill u while your invincible for the few moments after taking damage.

If you take alot of damage. Leave a bone thrower alive and farm health from the exploders. Then kill last bone thrower.

Next area kill the pounder first to avoid lighting skeletons spawning. The intenso shield breaker upgrade is a must here. As well as a good amount of stamina.

Might be because I did my 100% play-through on hard then bought and played the DLC straight away but I didn't have any issues with this. Hardest part was the throwers in the first arena

A tip I can pass on is that the headbutt is the strongest move in the game, it deals the most damage of any attack and as it has massive knock-back you can pretty much stun-lock any enemy until they dodge it
The lightening guys can be killed in about 5-7 headbutts without them getting a hit off

Thanks for the advice. I got it. The first part is incredibly random. I finally got lucky and got all the exploders and also took out the red guys quickly. Then it was a case of learning the correct distance to dash at the pounder. I took him out quickly enough to only spawn one lightning guy.

Also, a friend said you can dash through the beam under the lightning guys. That seems to be the case. It was hard to tell though with things being so frenetic.

I had heard that Xbox One achievements might have issues currently, so I took D34dBodyMan's advice above and went offline before entering the second arena. After beating it, I quit the whole game and deleted the console save. As soon as I went online, before even starting the game again, the achievement unlocked. After syncing the cloud save back, the second arena was still there, so this is a good backup method if you're concerned something might go wrong.

Both arenas are quite hard (solo), especially the second one. I had to leave The Great Temple in order to find more treasures/complete side quests that would increase my health, stamina, and intenso bars.

Therefore, make sure that you:
1. Come well-trained to the arenas. I recommend the health bar being at least the size of six stamina cubes.
2. Do not forget to complete both arenas as Javier Jaguar (if solo).

Good luck!

You need to win two arenas in the Great Temple on Hard difficulty while wearing the Javier Jaguar costume.

The most important
1. Have time to turn on the protective field (when the character moves/jumps with the right joystick to the right and left) when lightning strikes, flying balls and bones. And everything will work out.
2. Having Intenso is enough to activate in the second phase of the battle, where the multi-armed one appears. If you quickly deal with it using Intenso, then only one skeleton will appear. If you delay the execution, up to four skeletons will appear.
