Although the new achievements from the title update don't specify in the achievement descriptions, they still require 3-4 players (combination of players and bots).
I would recommend attempting this during one of the applicable Cup challenges to save on time although it may be easier to boost on versus mode.
For this achievement, you cannot get hit WHILE holding the alien pet (which will be the same color as your character while you are holding it). While holding it, you must force the pet to hit another player to damage them. Once a player is damaged, the next player in line will become the host of the alien pet. If you shoot the host, you now hold the alien pet. If you want to limit the chance of losing the pet, you can let other players hold it and hope they attack the other player(s). Once you figure out how the game mode works, it shouldn't be too difficult.
If you are having issues, you can do it on versus mode to help control the number of bots and the level of difficulty. If you have a total of 3 controllers, you can boost it yourself.

In Alien Pet, the alien attaches itself to one player and the goal is then to lead the Alien into an opponent to damage them. If you shoot the person who is in control of the Alien, you will then take possession of the Alien. You need to win a round of this mode without an opponent shooting you to take control of the Alien.
