In order to gain access to online matches you'll need to complete the Network Mode Tutorial.
From the main menu select Network and it will prompt you for this tutorial. It will show you how to customize your avatar, select your region, and how to interact in the lobbies. You'll have to play a calibration match that will determine your place in the Rank Tower. After this match you'll unlock the achievement.
