How to unlock the Yngwie Malmsteen Award achievement in Guitar Hero II - Definitive Guide
Please note that you need to purchase this song from the shop using in-game cash, as it isn't available right from the start. (Thanks to bonster20 for that clarification).
Although I found it easier (and more convienient) to do it on expert and go for the Champagne Room VIP along with this achievement.
I don't have a guitar for this game myself, but there is still (relatively) easy ways to get this achievement. After looking on www.Scorehero.com, I was able to compile up a few songs that are possible on controller and don't require super natural abilities to press the button. This does not include DLC since I don't have it so I am not able to tell you from experience.
Notes: If there's an asterisk on the left of the name of the song, then it is a song you have to buy from the store with the money you earn in game. The number represents in what section the song is.
Medium: 8. Free Bird (1,241 notes) is the only song on Medium that has over 1000 notes. Just because it's on Medium doesn't mean it's the easiest though.
Hard: 5. Jessica (1,063 notes), 3. War Pigs (1,006 notes), 7. Laid to Rest (harder one) (1,021 notes), 8. Beast and the Harlot (harder) (1,226 notes), 8. Hanger 18 (if you get pass the intro, it's not all that hard) (1,422 notes), 6. Killing in the Name (With the exception of Chorus 1b and 2b, it is likely the easiest on controller) (1,074 notes), 6. Freya (Warning: Repetitive Green pushes in some spots), 8. Free Bird (1,684 notes) 4. Monkey Wrench (1,037 notes).
Expert: 5. Jessica (1,211 notes), 7. Madhouse (1,053 notes), *Less Talk More Rokk (1,437 notes), 4. Monkey Wrench (1,037 notes).
There are a lot of these (like Jessica) that you can't FC on the controller because it's too fast. These are NOT FC's I need to clarify, they simply have 1000 note streaks that are somewhat possible on the controller.
If I were to recommend one, I would say Jessica on either Hard or Expert, or Killing in the Name on Hard. *EDIT* I actually got the achievement shortly after giving this review, and I did it by beating "Less Talk More Rokk" on expert. It is an easy song due to it's repetitive nature, lack of same button presses, and slower beat. I deffinetly would recommend this song. You'll get it on the early part of the 3rd chorus or so. *EDIT* Doing a song on expert (since usually they have more notes) will make you get the streak faster. Sometimes, songs are easier on expert than on hard.
Tips: It will take practice with a controller. Stay focused, don't be bothered by itches or dry eyes until a part where nothing is happening or a very long note. Pick a song or two that is good for you and then stay diligent with those songs. I may be a few years behind with the guide, but some people come back and play games, so if you want the majority of the achievements (because some will require a guitar, it's just too fast on controller) without buying the Guitar, just keep at it. Good luck!
Get a 1000 note streak, "MUST BE DONE IN ONE SONG!!!" So how do i do this you ask? Well 100% Monkey Wrench on Expert (1037 notes) or X-Stream (1337 Notes). USE YOUR HAMMER ONS AND PULL OFFS. I CANT STRESS THAT ENOUGH. HINT HINT HINT HINT For Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs, the tutorial claims you must hold down the other frets ex: to hammer on red you must hold down green. WELL GUESS WHAT..............THEY LIE!!!!!!!!, just press the button like you normally would. How do i Distinguish which notes i can hammer on or pull off?, IF your like me, you have been playing long enough to just judge distances, if not, the hammeronable notes have no black line around the white top. Good Luck!!

Once again, sounds tough, but fortunately we have a winner:
Freebird - Medium
