How to unlock the Specialist Shredder achievement in Guitar Hero Live - Definitive Guide

There are four skills:

1) extra hero power segment
2) higher base note value
3) plus one multiplier
4) faster multiplier

Each can be upgraded three times (go to My Setup / Guitar Upgrades). At the beginning each is at 1/4. The first upgrade of a skill costs 6000 coins, the second costs 9000 coins and the final upgrade costs 15000 coins.

Just choose any of them and save up your coins.

You can start upgrading once you've reached level 9 (which should not take long, as leveling up is quite fast at first). Thanks to Flopsy86 for pointing this out.

Each song in GHTV will give you approximately 150-170 coins, so this will be a long road. But since you need to play for at least 24 hours anyway, this is not that hard.

YOu will probably need to upgrade all the skills in the course of time to get all the GHTV cheevos anyway. Or to get them faster.

@Marekvit Yeah I noticed this myself, you don't get very much when you reach the teens. They seem to give you a lot of stuff in the early levels but then you're on your own and have to grind it all out. I suppose they have to make their money somehow on this GHTV aspect.

@Gigatoreador The solution doesn't mention this but you have to be level 9 or above to even be able to access the upgrades.
Press the GHTV button to bring up the main menu
Go down to My GHTV
Select My Setup (Guitar + logo)
Guitar upgrades is the 3rd option on this menu, it will be locked if you're not high enough leveled to access it.

Can you explain what each level actually does, please? +1 multiplier is obvious, but how much do the base note values increase, etc?

Is there a best skill to upgrade to maximise coin revenue, or is that unrelated to your score?

You also get nice coin boosts occasionally when leveling up, I think it's when you go up a row on the level up diagram (ie. your guitar skill title increases).
It's not a lot of coins but it can be as much as 1000 coins on top of the 160-190 you usually get and that can be 5-6 songs worth of coin grinding.

I think it's also worth mentioning that in order to get the Power Crazy! achievement (Use a hero power 6 times in one song in GHTV) you need to fully upgrade the Extra Hero Segment ability, so if you are going for all of the achievements it would be most efficient to fully upgrade this ability first. Having this ability will also help you obtain the Hero-Powerful achievement (Use hero powers 1,000 times in GHTV) much faster. None of the other abilities are required for achievements, although they will help you obtain the Pointdexter achievement (Score 100,000,000 points in GHTV) much faster.

In the GHTV store there are 4 guitar skills that you can upgrade:

1) One increases the maximum amount of hero powers that appear in each song
2) Another boosts the base score value of each note
3) The third increases the maximum multiplier that can be achieved
4) The fourth increases the rate at which the maximum multiplier is earned

Each can be upgraded a total of three times for 6,000, 9,000 then 15,000 gold coins respectively, meaning a total of 30,000 gold coins are required to fully upgrade one skill and 120,000 gold coins are needed to fully upgrade all four. Hero cash cannot be used to purchase these upgrades. Fully upgrade one of these skills to earn the trophy.
