Burning is being damaged by fire (of course)
Decay is basically the "poison" of the game and is green
Shock is by lightning damage
There are elemental barrels scattered around the maps and you could just go up to one, shoot it and be damaged by the element that its carrying, if not, there are many enemies that can use elemental damage on their weapons. This will probably come with natural gameplay but as stated above you can just cheese it
