How to unlock the Post Mortem achievement in Halo 3 - Definitive Guide

If you're planning on boosting the Mythic Achievements this one is really quite simple. After having trouble using grenades, my friends and I experimented and found a much better option. Pick up the rockets at the top of the map and have 2 players on the other team stand together in the long hallway over the chasm. Make sure they're fairly far away but close enough where you can kill them. Shoot a rocket and have someone from the other team assassinate you right after. As long as you hit one of them, both will die and you should get both medals with one rocket.

Worked great, this is best done on Orbital but instead of above the "chasm" we found it easier to do it just to the right of this where the long set of stairs is. One person from each team stands at the base of the stairs, one with the rocket launcher, one in position to assassinate and two others stand along the wall at the far end.

2 important things:
- Individuals being killed must be on the opposite team from the person shooting the launcher
- Individual assassinating must be on a different team from the person shooting the launcher

Anything else will count as regular kills.

Well it can ONLY be done on Orbital smile I'll add some of the added info.

Worked like a charm! We also did this on the long stairs, with one team standing in the team base with the other at the stairs. We had a difference though in that the team getting hit by the rocket shoots the person getting the achievement with the sniper. Counted down in preparation to help with the lag.

This sounds like a good solution. If I get enough players who want to boost it, I'll try it out. Thanks.

The main trouble I have with this achievement is that this map has never came up. Not once in over 50 games on Team Mythic. It's starting to become a right pain now

I can confirm this is still possible. Search in rumble pit for ever until you find it ... I ended up doing it in a zombies variant and using grenades. Probably not possible without boosting I'm afraid as for most of the day there was a 0 population.

Can confirm everything in this solution. The only tricky part is getting an Orbital map. Stick with the Team Mythic playlist since the pool of maps is much smaller than Rumble Pit. Still takes a while to find one though. My group only got Orbital twice in a 3.5 hour session with all but 2 games being played on Team Mythic. I don't think the number of players makes a difference but I could be wrong.

If your group is already done with all of the EXP-related achievements, you can consider leaving any games when you don't get Orbital if that's the only achievement you're working toward. You'll get an EXP penalty but if you're at a point where EXP isn't relevant for your remaining achievements... meh. This does break your group up so you'll want to either all be in a 360 party or have everyone friended so that people can be quickly invited back to the lobby if you go this route.

Since Halo 3 and the others are being shut down next year, I figured nows a good time to find boosting partners.

Top tip.... use the LONG corridor as the rocket needs enough flight time for the "from the grave" to credit.

This is the way how my boosting buddy and I got it with 4 controllers each and 6 dummy players. We never tried the grenade method. The only problem with the rocket launcher was that we had a slight lag and my boosting partner killed me too late the first time. We adjusted to that by enlarging the distance between the 2 dummy players and the shooter und using the rocket launcher's zoom.

Did this on Team Mythic playlist with 8 players (some being guest accounts). Basically set 2 people up down the hallway (across from where the rockets spawn). Have the Rocket Shooter (person getting achievement) shoot the rocket and immediately get hit (B button) from behind. Will pop the achievement!

Hey anyone else need this one? Tried it earlier but it didn’t pop. Hoping to finish this before the servers get shut off.

The best way to get this one is to use grenades, that's the method I used and I got it the first time I played this map. Since this level has a lot of places where the grenades will abruptly halt their bouncing on the floor, it works great. If you're great at sticking then try for that, but if not just weaken someone and let them attack you and before you die just let one of your 'nades drop towards the enemy, achieve this twice and you'll be 25G richer.

I got Multi Flag when I got this map so I had plenty of time. Haha and everyone quit except for one guy, good times.

Me and my friend tried all of the methods mentioned above, then we got the advice to just throw a plasma grenade straight up in the air. We used 6 extra controllers to be sure that we got at least 2 kills.

So get the other team to stand around you, throw a couple of grenades straight up in the air, have your friend kill you from behind. The higher the ceiling the more time you got. We both got it on our first try and people we have helped after that have also gotten it on the first try.

By far the best and easiest method to do this.

Incredibly easy - most people will typically run in a straight line at you for the potential melee when they're shooting. Just run straight at them without firing and toss a plasma sticky nade. They'll kill you with the AR/BR, you'll get the death from the grave.

Took about 30 seconds to do as there is an abundance of sticky nades on the map - anyone with any Halo experience should not find this hard.

Whilst boosting this we had extreme difficulty using the above mentioned rocket launcher method. Instead we resorted to the use of plasma grenades.

The main thing to realise is that it is impossible to get a death from the grave medal once the plasma grenade has touched a surface, be it person, floor, wall, weapon etc.

The method involves throwing a plasma grenade high and far down one of the many corridors(my group used the balcony area where the rocket launcher is located) and getting assassinated whilst the nade is in mid-air, then getting an opposing teammate to stand on the sticky grenade once it stops and lands on the floor. It helps to have the sacrificial player nearby the expected landing zone.

Fairly simple, we got the achievement for 3 people in the space of 5 minutes using guest controllers - the whole process would be much quicker with more players. Would recommend this as an alternative to the rocket method.

I have tried both the tactics above and while I was unable to get the achievement 5 of the 8 people from my session were. We wasted half our time trying with rockets and succeeded once we started the grenade tactic.

Go with sticky grenades. Much easier.

This worked 100% once we used your method. None others worked. You are the win.

A similar method to W1LLYMAN's if you're trying to boost. Get the plasma grenades and have an enemy stand in front of you and one stand behind you, once you throw the grenade at the enemy in front have the one behind you assassinate you and you should get 1 Death From the Grave medal.

We tried get Post Mortem with Rocket Launcher method, but it didn't work for us - so I prefer a better method. Player 1 must have Power Drain; 2 players from opposite team and 1 player with power drain stand together - after that player activate power drain and throw the grenade (USUAL grenade, not STICKY) right to his feet and someone from opposite team quickly kill this player (melee attack or gun - it doesn't matter because player already lost shields from power drain), after BOOM! he got this achievement =)) I saw it works very well from the first try. Hope it helps.

This is unverified but based on anecdotal experience.

I had been trying to get this achievement with a friend and we had three controllers each (total of 6 for those that can't math). On the Team Mythic playlist, we kept getting Heretic, Assembly, and Citadel.

The only times Orbital or Longshore were options as maps were when we'd get paired with two random players.

I haven't been able to verify this online anywhere but I don't think you can get Orbital or Longshore unless you have 8 players in Team Mythic.

The assassination way mentioned before works well but I find it can fail a number of times. One way I found a little more fail safe is to have two people stand against a wall with one holding the sniper aimed at the rocket holders head. As soon as he sees the killer fire the rocket he just snipes him in the head.

Associations trick may need to hits and may not get the death fast enough.

The easiest way I found to do this is to go to team mythic with a party of 8 players, tell 2 to go up against a wall or in a corner, then get 2 plasma nades. Throw one at the ground in front of you then walk on top of it and throw the other plasma at the 2 players, if done correctly you should get a double kill from the grave and the cheevo should pop right away. Make sure you stand back far enough that you can easily stick the two players. If your not planning on boosting this cheevo and doing it legit I reccomend damaging a player and have yourself almost dead, then once they go for the melter drop a made. BOOM, kill from the grave, then do it once more for the achievement.

Get in the habit of throwing grenades. Lots of them! You have to kill someone after your dead. Another way of getting this without using grenades is by using a weapon that travels slowly or over a long distance (such as the rocket launcher of needler). With some luck, you should get this in no time. Plasma grenade stickies just before death are a very easy way to get this, but note that sometimes they won't count as Death from the Grave kills (Mythic Map Pack).
