How to unlock the Spartan Officer achievement in Halo 3 - Definitive Guide

The objective is to get a cumulative total of 50EXP in a single gametype. You can track which gametype you have the most EXP on in your game summary by pressing start in your lobby to view your records. Mine, for example, currently (as of 3/29/09) says I have 52EXP for Rocket Race halfway down on the main screen where you have 3 options on your left (view service record, etc).

I think the quickest way to get this achievement is to play double exp on the weekends with a "rocket race" if you are lucky enough to encounter the gametype on a particular weekend. That's how I got mine, and I think anything else (like slayer, king, etc) would take a lot longer to get, especially if you don't come in 1st or 2nd place very often.

Just because it's quick (IF you win 25 matches, meaning coming in 1st place) doesn't mean it's easy! It can take as many as 25 matches (if you came in 1st 25 times), 50 matches (if you came in 2nd place 50 times), or evern 100 matches if you don't get 1st or 2nd place every game so it can take you awhile! Anyway here's the scoop if you play any Double EXP game: 1 win (1st place) = 2EXP; 2nd place = 1EXP.

It's not easy because there are many times where you will be paired with a team-mate that will either quit out on you for no reason at all or flat out act stupid and run around trying to kill people you can't really even kill (unless you assassinate someone but it's too much effort really).

To avoid EXP penalties for quitting early, I strongly recommend baing patient and to just stick with these matches until someone wins and just try again with a different group. Otherwise, you previous efforts would be wasted and you would be spending more time than you need to try to pair up with someone good.

I was lucky enough to meet 2 people who were GREAT team-mates and helped ensure I was in 1st or 2nd place whenever I was paired up with either of them. When you find good people who are willing to help you out and/or pair up with you for dominations, then be sure to party up with them so that you will always be paired together to ensure a win the majority of the time. I'd say 80% of this Rocket Race involves LUCK of finding a good team-mate, and 20% is your skill at driving and/or shooting rockets at the other mongoose's to keep them off course if you are the VIP.

I personally found this one easy to get but just time consuming. I assume it would be even more time consuming if you stick to your favorite gametype that happens to not be featured on a double EXP weekend yet. Good luck!

You really might want to edit your solution slightly, as unfortunately the main method you describe can no longer be taken advantage of. Double xp weekends finished at the end of 2010, so it's got to be the long grind in Rumble Pit or similar from now on!

For me the easiest way was team games. Only the winning team gets the exp, but if you are off for a few games, you have better chances that the rest of your team can pull you through. Of course, conversely, if the rest of your team is just awful, then you will have to be a BA to pull out the win.

You need 50 EXP in one playlist for this and the quickest way to do it is to boost them.
You need one person as a quitter (must have 4 controllers and an useless account).
You can boost 4 accounts at the same time (they don't have to be on one console).

First you need to change your language for the quitter and the booster party leader, it works best with chinese (the very bottom one).
On the bottom you see a vid how to change a language, so you won't have any trouble changing it back to your language. (it's the old Dashboard in the vid, but works the same)

When you have your language ready,
Booster party leader: go to Halo 3 Matchmaking lobby, then invite your friends, who also wants to boost this, or turn on your guests. After you have 4 players in your lobby, go to Social Skirmish or Team Mythic playlist (Must have all DLC) then press "X" and select the bottom one from the list. The quitter has to do the same (turn on guests, go to the playlist, press "X" and make sure you have to bottom one always enabled).

If you have done everything correctly, it should always find your boosters and every time just quit with the quitter, so your boosters gain 1 EXP per match. You can boost as much as you want, (for example boost rank or playlist rank) without getting banned. You can also do some other Achievements while you're doing this, but I suggest to get EXPs first and then boost the other Achievements, because it can get you banned from earning EXP.

There is many different methods for this, but the fastest is:
1. chinese language
2. 2 consoles, 4 controllers on the quitter's console and 4 controllers on the booster's console.
3. 3 guests on both consoles.
4. Social Skirmish
5. quit fast and start the game fast.

You should get this done in 1 hour. Good luck and hope this helps. ;)

This was by far the easiest waay to boost this. I got it in 90 minutes, without fail. Thank you so much for this!

Works better when you have a full lobby using a player and all guests on one team and players/guests on the other to start games quickly with a full lobby. It seemed like the winning team needed to score a point or kill to get the XP point per win when the guy with guests quits.

If you have problems with "Information could not be retrieve," I found it would work after clearing the cache. Go to Xbox dashboard, click the options button (small button with three horizontal lines underneath Xbox button on controller) on the game tile, go to "Manage Game and Add-ons," scroll down to "Saved Data," click on the "Reserved Space," and then select the option to "Clear Reserved Space." Make sure you don't select "Delete All" otherwise you will lose everything.

Does this solution run the risk of getting the quitter banned?

EDIT: As of 2016, this will need to be boosted as the servers will be dead.

The required experience (XP) for this achievement is 50 in one game type.
When I went for this achievement I played 'Rumble Pit' because you get XP for coming in the top 3, unlike other game types where you get 1 XP for winning.
This method helped me as I'm not the best at Halo so and this game mode is a bit more forgiving.

If you do play Rumble Pit, a good way of allowing everyone to get wins is to divide into 3 groups ( 3 people, 3 people, 2 people). Each group changes their armor to the same color (for example: one group is red, one group is blue and one group is green)
Each round one colored group will be getting the majority of the kills (and the xp at the end of the round). Followed by the next group and etc......

This is a lot easier than running around trying to read each others gamer-tag.

The quickest way is to get into Rumble Pit playlist in a party of 8 (2 players + 6 controllers, 3 players + 5 controllers or just regular players x8) and let one player win while other (human) players get 1 kill/point.
This way the winner gets 1 EXP and the other players get 1 EXP as well, since Rumble Pit playlist gives out experience points for Top 4 players.

Every match grants 1 EXP for all players so it will take 50 matches in total if you start at 0 EXP.

Oddball is the fastest and Slayer is the slowest mode to finish a match in.

Credit goes to today's session party where we figured it out and managed to get the achievements together (MrTonytheGamer, xTCx, Poiios and cSilent#4555 in no particular order).

Solution works on 2020/12/24 so I guess Merry Christmas :D

This is now even easier to boost found through today’s session! (3/27/21)
Lightswitch and Spartan Officer achievements unlock at the same time

To get this rank you must get a total 50 EXP in a single Game type and this is cumulative.

Start a social match for Rumble pit up to 8 players or 2 players with a total of 8 controllers.(All DLC is needed and is available for free)

-1 - Player gets points
-7 - other controller/players don’t need any and they will get EXP (these players tie at 2nd place for 0 points)

This will take 50 Matches (veto Zombies mode) about 2 mins per round with 8 players.

* took us a while to find this out hope it helps!

As of 13th January 2022, this achievement is no longer possible to unlock. The following solution is now for archival purposes.

The following solution was originally a workaround for an EXP bug in Halo 3, which has now been fixed. The solution is still valid for boosting EXP however.

You can still earn XP and unlock the achievements, but the match must be won quickly. For some reason, if matches go on longer than a few minutes the game will not give you experience, thus slayer matches are unlikely to yield XP as they go quite long. Ideally, this will need to be boosted. Thus if you want to go for these achievements you should aim to play objectives modes. The best playlists are Social Skirmish and Rumble Pit. However, both playlists have cons. Social Skirmish is team based, thus only one team can win. Unless you want to try waiting for the entire match to end, but this will be extremely long. Rumble Pit has Slayer variants, meaning the matches may last longer and you may not get XP if you end up with Slayer. However, slayer variants in Rumble pit did sometimes give me XP, if a) the map was small and b) I could quickly locate the other players. Be warned that Rumble pit has much higher weighting for Slayer and Slayer BRs, so you will most likely always get this pre-veto or post veto, but if you are boosting with multiple people, this can be circumvented by everyone running into the middle and one person getting all the kills in order to end the match quickly. Ideally, the best modes for Rumble Pit are Oddball and Crazy King (or any KOTH mode) as the matches are very quick. Ultimately, I think Rumble Pit is the best option if you are boosting with multiple people who want XP, as only 1 player needs to win and everyone else still gets XP with joint second place. With both Social Skirmish and Rumble Pit, you only need 6 profiles to search into the playlist. This can be 1 main and 2 guests each, or any other combination. The good thing about these playlists is that you can just enter a playlist with your party of 6, as opposed to searching separately as 2 groups of 3. Rumble pit can hold a maximum of 8, so ideally if you are boosting, you can have 4 people, each with a guest. Or, you can have 8 main accounts.

If you want to double box the XP, be warned that it sometimes doesn't work. For some reason it may kick out one of the 2 parties as soon as the match loads and sometimes it will deduct XP when this happens. However, I found no pattern as to why this happened, it was very random.

The process for double boxing is as follows:

- One party of 3 or 4 on each box.
- Guests can be used
- Search at the exact same time or search as a party of 6. Test each of these methods as double boxing is very dodgy sometimes.

This game is an ancient ghost town. So you're best bet is to get some buddies to boost you up to the rank of Lieutenant.

I suggest doing rumble pit with 6 players (or guests) to fill up the lobby. Considering you get 1 exp for being in top 3, this can also a good way to get your overall rank up (if that matters to you)

Since the 25th of September 2008 the requirements for this achievement have changed.

To unlock this achievement you now need to reach 50 experience in any playlist, to earn the Lieutenant rank.

This will also unlock the “Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch” achievement.
