How to unlock the No Easy Way Out achievement in Halo 4 - Definitive Guide

Just got the achievement to pop. I was playing on heroic and with only one other player. We both died numerous times and only one generator survived. The only thing that we did differently was not push the orange activation button when it popped up after the defense section. We instead kept fighting a couple waves of enemies and the achievement popped mid-battle. I've had 2 other friends try this and it has worked. Hope this helps everyone out.

Edit: First of all, thanks to everyone for the awesome comments and thumbs up. You CAN get this done by yourself but just follow the details up top. Unfortunately NORMAL DIFFICULTY WILL NOT WORK!!! Here is an excellent video guide sent to me by Maka91.

Thumbs up from me. This solution did work solo Heroic though it didn' t pop until I'd killed the very last enemy.

I had previously completed it on both Legendary and Normal without it popping. I can't be certain whether I did save one of the generators but I almost certainly did make a dash for the final activation button previously. That seems to be the crucial difference. An incredibly misworded achievement. Thanks for the solution. Game completed :-)

Btw a very tricky episode. 158 kills, 46 deaths :-( and I consider myself a moderate to reasonable player. But an achievement is an achievement, especially if it completes the game.

Took me 48 minutes to complete on Heroic Solo and cheevo popped just before last Promethian was slain. Just when you think you've had enough, another wave spawns. You will know when no more waves will spawn when the achievement pops, FYI. Thanks for the tip!

I just managed to get this one. I think the trick is to slain the two knights who spawn on the higher platforms asap, otherwise you will get an unlimited number of waves. My chievo popped when I took out the last of the two on the higher platform and there were still other enemies below. Hope this helps.

Got this on Co-op, Heroic.

One generator was destroyed, and we died.

We just didn't hit the orange button and just kept killing until it popped
Took a few rounds of killing enemies for it to unlock.

I'm sorry that this didn't work for you silence. Make sure you're playing on heroic or legendary and that at least 1 generator survives. After that just keep killing wave after wave of enemies and make sure you DO NOT PUSH THE ORANGE BUTTON which makes them stop attacking you. It will pop and you can die as many times as you'd like. I've done this on 3 different profiles and have had 7 friends and countless strangers confirm that it works. Good luck my friend.

Works perfectly, but goddamn, this mission is an awful pile of shit. 156 kills and 25 fucking deaths. Incredibly frustrating! I recommend people use a plasma pistol as their secondary to quickly wipe out the Knights' shields and then use a precision weapon to quickly take them out.

Just found this solution, and implemented it. I think the trick is to make sure you kill the two Knights that spawn on top with the launchers or the rest will keep coming. Took about 20, 30 min to do. Thanks for the tips

I followed your instructions but the achievement never popped on multiple tries until today. The difference was how I killed the last Knight at the top of the tower.

I did this on solo, heroic, with one generator left standing. After I wiped out the first wave of Prometheans, there are two black Knights with Incineration Cannons at the top of the tower. I blew away one of them with a rocket launcher but the other knight got me with his cannon. A new army of Prometheans respawn when only one of the black Knights are left on the battlefield. I defeated my second wave of Prometheans (black Knight w/cannon still alive) but no achievement popped. On my third wave of Prometheans, I defeated every single Promethean except for one watcher and the black Knight with the cannon on the top of the tower. I turned on my camo, snuck up behind him and assassinated him. The achievement popped even with the watcher alive.

This is one of the glitchiest achievements in Halo 4. If the achievement hasn't popped after following this solution, I recommend wiping out all the Prometheans except a watcher, then going after that last knight at the top of the tower. If you kill the last black Knight in the middle of battle, he does respawn at the middle section of the tower and will call in a new army of Prometheans if left as the last man standing.

Took 40 minutes with countless deaths. I forgot my killcount though.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but take advantage of the turrets on the sides of the structure. This didn't seem very difficult at all for me (143 kills, 19 deaths, 21 minutes).

Just DO NOT detach the turrets and go to town on the promethians (kill the flying things first obviously).

Did on heroic solo.

Worked great!!! Played solo on Heroic. I died over 50 times with one generator destroyed and the other down to 60% before it gave me the final item to activate (which I did not hit). Continued clearing wave after wave of everything and when the last enemy was killed, I got the achievement. This is still obtainable as of 2/5/14

Solo
Heroic
143 kills, 57 deaths

Seemed to pop once I got down to the last flying thingy in the last wave. Took roughly a half hour.

Alright. I had a lot of trouble with this but I finally did it.

To start with, if you fail to defend at least one generator, and they both get destroyed, the mission fails and you will have to start from the beginning. All the people saying they did it with no generators are lying. Either that or it works differently in co-op.

Now when you're actually defending the generators, the first couple waves are easy. They're mainly comprised of Crawlers with only a few Knights, and they don't attack the generators too much.

The third or fourth wave is when it gets really hectic. I think there's 8 or 9 Knight spawns all at once and at least a handful of Watchers. I failed on this wave twice, the second time I was at 112-3! Even with only three deaths (and I think only one was at the defense part) the enemies still went bat shit crazy on the generators and failed me.

The wave after that is even worse. There's so many Knights I couldn't even guess the actual number because they were killing me so quickly. Luckily, I got the objective to press the button about halfway through with my last generator at about 20%.

My strategy was to put the Health Regeneration armor ability on my class. I set up on the turret on the rightmost path (if your back is towards the area you spawned. This gives you a good view of both generators and enemies won't spawn right on top of you like they do the turret on the left path. Whenever you lose your shield, quickly jump off the turret and activate your Health Regeneration bubble. This will heal you and allow you to keep mowing down enemies with the turret.

The most unfortunate thing that can happen during these attempts is the Knights throw a grenade at your turret and knock it off. If that happens you can try to go on foot and take out the enemies that are directly shooting the generators but you'll probably have to restart.

Once the objective came up to press the button I fought 4 or 5 large waves of enemies (died a ton of times) and finally got the achievement after killing the last Knight.

This is old but just to clarify a few things. First, they're "sensors" not "generators". Also I let both sensors get destroyed and still got the achievement but it took to like wave 6. I also made sure I killed everything but one knight and the achievement popped. Not sure if they had anything to do with it but I had read that elsewhere. Worth a shot.

Used the WRITTEN guide above. Video not helpful. Guide is right they do seem endless But once you finish all the waves without pressing the button underneath the ramp the achievement popped. died multiple times on Solo. Used never every weapon in the case

Please note: the flying promethians should be considered highest priority get them taken out first each round they spawn so they do not revive or shield other promenthians. Most confusing achievement ever!

1h and 3 minutes to kill 141 and die 113 times, that was terrible to do it alone. laugh

If you're confused, press the 2 buttons to start the analysis, then protect the towers the best you can (I lost one), then don't go to press the button (that would end the mission too soon). Continue to kill enemies wave after wave and you'll get the achievement.

Got it on my 2nd attempt on heroic due to pushing the orange button too early. On my 2nd attempt, after I finished off the 3rd wave while the ‘activate’ prompt is on screen my achievement popped.

PS: Doesn’t matter how much you die and don’t lose both satellites

The key to getting the achievement is this:

When you get to the second part of the mission where enemies keep spawning and you have to click the third Orange activate button just dont press it and just kill constantly. After like the fourth or fifth wave the achievement will pop during the mission. I did it on Heroic.

YOU CAN DIE.
YOU CAN DO IT ALONE.

Short and sweet solution. I like it. As long as you don't fail the mission, meaning you defended at least one of the power nodes. and get to the point where it's time to press button number three... Keep fighting (don't take the "easy way out" by pressing the button and thus opening the portal). I just did it solo, as while it's pain (and I died a LOT), it popped when I was down to my last Knight. Just get to know where all the weapon crates are and you'll do fine.

This will not unlock on NORMAL as the achievement says. I had a party of 4 and played on it normal twice and we did not get the achievement.

We went back and did it on Heroic from picking the game not from the match making one so it can def work without it having to be played during the weekly selection.

We did hit the two orange things and got on the turrets and were just picking off all of the enemies. Also as some others have said it does not matter if you die or not. I died many times and we were still all able to get it since we defended the orange objectives.

The clue to this is in the name, " No easy way out ". as in don't be forced to press the orange button to stop them from spawning.

My thoughts on it is either defend both post's or just kill all the waves without forcing them to stop via the button.

I did this with 4 people via match making, everyone died so we didn't " survive " like the description suggest's.

Neat. Just don't press the button under the stairs which activates the portal until the cheevo pops.

Three or four rounds on heroic should do it.

Solo, it took me about half an hour.

Thanks for the help.

This sucks solo, but can be done. To add on to what others have said, this is what I found when playing.

- You can die. I died way more than I'd like to admit.
- I lost both generators, but kept playing anyway just to see what would happen. (EDIT: HumonShield commented that this might have been patched. After doing it Solo Heroic, losing the second generator caused the mission to end/fail.)
- The Suppressor is the best weapon for your loadout, outside of the Rocket Launcher, to make quick work of the Prometheans — it'll even work at mid-longish range against Watchers, and really helps whittle down the armor/health of the Knights.
- It took maybe four waves after the orange waypoint for the third ACTIVATE button pops up for the achievement to finally pop, and that was near the tail end of the last wave.

Good luck!

Ok I had a very hard time getting this achievement however I think I figured it out. As the above solutions state: You can die, it should be on heroic to be safe, and you do not activate the portal jammer right away.

What worked for us was when you are told to activate the portal jammer, 2 large promethean knights with incineration cannons spawn on top of the complex. *Only kill one!!!* Then we leaped off the complex which caused another wave of enemies to spawn... When we started killing them, the achievement popped.

Hope this helps!

It's true that this can't be done on normal as the achievements reads. Also, you don't need to stay alive (I think I died about 40 times on my legendary attempt). This solution concerns the generators. The best way to have at least one survive is to head back to where the chapter starts once you need to defend (and the red arrows appear over the enemies). Kill off the majority of the first wave, and then wait until the voice sequences are cued. You'll most likely lose one generator. But, killing most of the first wave means only a few enemies will attack the generators. It seems the more intensely you protect the generators, the harder it is. After the generator defence is over, keep fighting enemies until the bloop. It took me about 20 mins, co-op legendary, at exactly 100 kills.

11 Jan 2013 14:32

First attempt, solo heroic and it was easy. Start the op, then defend the generators, I kept only one functioning. After they recieve the data and the defend the generators part ends, just keep killing things. DO NOT ACTIVATE THE BUTTON!! It does not matter how many times you die. I went 147 and 88 and the achievement popped once everything was dead and I was approaching the final triangle. It's not patched as of 8/14/14.

Infinity Multiplayer :: Spartan Ops related. Online Required. Must be obtained on Heroic+.
Survive the assault during Episode 5 'Memento Mori', Chapter 1 'Spartan Miller' either Solo or Cooperatively.

  • Can only be obtained on Heroic+ (description is wrong)
  • You CAN die
  • One sensor must NOT be destroyed.
  • You must clear out all the enemies before activating the final orange switch.

After surviving the assault, and protecting at least one sensor beam, the achievement should unlock. Then you may activate the final orange switch to open the portal for the final jump.
