You can get this one, conceivably, at the same time as David And Goliath. When you board the enemy Mantis (on Shatter), use the option to plant a grenade on it. It'll blow up and you'll get the achievement. You do not need to shoot it or otherwise take down shields/damage it/etc.
Since the grenade is the only shot on it, it counts as the last shot.

Just some advice on getting close enough to board the Mantis:
Smart players will avoid getting into CQC situations with vehicles because of the threat of boarding/EMPs. Instead find one that's either distracted or lay in wait to surprise one. Once it's close enough for the Plasma Pistol's Overcharge to lock on, let one fly and immediately start sprinting at the downed vehicle.
AA choice can help. I personally run an Anti-Vehicle Loadout that uses Thruster Pack to try and close the gaps before my target escapes or can turn to bring his firepower to bear. Other potential AAs include Hologram and Camo and possibly Hardlight Shield.

One can also lie in wait for the Mantis to come around a corner. Had one guy try that on me. He was sitting on some rocks that had a line-of-sight block on me and he almost managed to board without using anything else. Had I not been extra careful (since I saw him go around the corner, but no blip showing him moving away), he would've gotten me.
Yes, using an overcharge shot is safer, but it's not necessary. I don't like using the overcharges because it gives other teammates the chance of getting the kill.

You can get both David and Goliath Achievement if you board the Mantis and Destroy it. Here is a video that shows an easy way to grab this achievement.

How does plant a grenade work? I've seen people do it, but I don't know how.

This one was fairly easy. My buddy Hockyed stunned one on Shatter with an overcharged plasma shot, and I had the Spartan Laser. One blast, and boom. Then bing, achievement unlocked. So random, but at least it's another strategy.

:) make a session, with friends, it must done on shatter. Two Mantis's are present. The vid below shows how easy you can get the achievement, you've probably done it before but on a different map.

Clueless, Maka, and, BiggD
The Spartan Laser, Plasma Pistol, and Plasma Grenade are essential tools for this achievement.
"Score the killing blow" translates to, "Obtain a vehicle destroyed medal on the Mantis."
- The Spartan Laser can be used to get a ranged kill on the Mantis.
- EMP Overcharge the Mantis and stick it with two Plasma Grenades.
- The Mantis can be boarded (only from behind) and instant-killed with a single Grenade plant.
Overall, remember the weaknesses of the Mantis:
- Slow movement & turn speed/long cooldown and reload times for weapons
- Long shield recharge time/very vulnerable when the shield is down
Once you have destroyed the Mantis, the achievement will unlock.
