How to unlock the What Power Outage? achievement in Halo 4 - Definitive Guide

I did this achievement solo on heroic. It is easier solo than with a friend *IN MY OPINION*. Take a mantis at the very beginning. If you die in it, that's okay. You should spawn right near new ones and they keep respawning so you can use as many as you need to. For me, the generators didn't even go down that much. Be sure to activate the turrets also. The achievement should pop up once Roland starts to speak at the end of the final wave. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to comment below I will try to answer them as soon as possible.

ALSO something to note. Not 100% sure about this but pretty sure. On solo, you can only use mantises while on co-op you can only use warthogs. Just thought I would mention it to people who are wondering.

I just wanted to add, it's doable on legendary by yourself, with the method stated above. Did it first try, with both generators around half health...

Tried this in co-op which failed. Tried it on solo and got it on the first try with one generator not even touched. Having a mantis as opposed to a warthog makes a big difference in my opinion.

Did it in co-op heroic. 2 guys posted up on gauss canon while other 2 drove around in machine gun warthog. They never touched the generators.

Worked perfectly, first time I tried it. Thanks for the tip!

Worked like a charm, solo (I wimped out and did heroic). Took two tries as I thought I only had to save one. Oops.

Helpful tip:
#1. Park your first Mantis so it blocks one of the front access points, then grab another one to fight.
#2. Once the turrets are available, park that mantis in the other access point, activate the turrets and grab a new mantis.
#3. When the elites or hunters get through, and some will, DON'T FORGET TO HIT RB(right bumper)! You will stomp them to death or knock them away so you can put a rocket in their face!

I was amazed that my generators took less than 10% damage and the mission ended after only 15 minutes of play - one of the shortest chapters available...

Got it first try on solo, the above tip was helpful as well, help slow down the hunters and elites before they destroyed the blmoacking mantis's. Grunts were totally blocked allowing the friendly a into pick them off easily, plus the manti's would des pawn, so you could move one back over to block a way.

In co-op with two people, you get Mantises. With three, you get Warthogs. Two-person co-op play is by far the easiest way to get this achievement. One person on each side with a mantis, occasionally holding the middle when they get dropped there. One other tip: blow up your own turret in the middle area, you won't be using it and enemies occasionally get on it if you leave it working.

Easy.
Use he Mantis and rape.
(If you're playing with 1or2 people, anymore you will have warthogs.)

Did this solo on heroic - tried to park a mantis whenever possible too which helped. Don't think I took more than 25% damage on a single generator so not too bad. Stomp is best for clearing packs of elites etc.

Funny that there were no specific achievements for episodes 6 through 10. How many players didn't bother with the rest of the series for that reason?

First off, it's much, much easier to do this with multiple people. I suggest getting it this week (Dec 3-9), while Episode 5 is in Matchmaking.

In the beginning of the mission, there are a couple Warthogs (Chain & Gauss). Take them and park them in front of the generators. There are also a couple more near the generators, so you can create a small blockade. Get into the gunner seats and shoot anything that moves.

There are multiple waves of varying difficulty (including Hunters and Elite Officers), coming from both drop pods and Phantoms; but with a little teamwork, this achievement should not be a problem.

Be careful with trying to create a blockade. Due to the varying intelligence level of randoms, they can and most likely will, hope in the driver seat and drive like idiots through the map. They can't seem to understand that someone could purposefully make a V around the generators to guard it.

I did this solo on heroic using only the mech that you get at the beggining of the level. The marines are surprisingly effective in defending the generators. Make sure you fire everything you have at the phantoms that drop off bad guys. If you get to it quick enough, you can blow them up before many guys get out.

I didn't even see any warthogs on the map, just the two Mantis mechs at the begining and that was plenty to keep the waves away from the generators solo on Heroic.

Really, the cheev is pretty basic and probably doesn't even warrant a "solution". I got it with the Warthogs and 3 randoms, but the point is that you park whatever you have in front of the generators and use your vehicles not only offensively, but defensively, as well.

As for doing it solo, whatever floats your boat. If you can, awesome, but you're probably better off with other players- much like the "No Easy Way Out" cheev. What's more, the matchmaking is automatically "Heroic", so there's that.

I didn't see any Mantises (Manti?), so that makes me wonder if there are alternate spawns....

I also didn't see any warthogs and also did it on my own. Maybe it's different when you play by yourself compared to playing with others.

We did this with three people - all using the Warthog guns (2 machine, 1 gauss). Two on the lower levels, left and right side, one up top on the elevated platform.

because when you play solo you have Mantis (mechs);
when you play on matchmaking, you and randoms only have Warthogs.

It is a quite easy achievement to get when you play with 2 or 3 other people. Just remember to use Gauss Warthogs, activate turrets and kill enemies as soon as they jump out from the Phantoms/Pods. Check video.

I did this solo on heroic and did not know about the achievement until it popped. I used the mantis on a raised area inbetween the two generators and just blasted away. I had to drop down a few times to grab another mantis from behind me when it started smoking heavily, switch on the turrets and deal with a couple of elites who got right up to the generators.

Just did this Solo on Legendary. Just utilize the fact there are 4 Mantis' on this level. 2 at the start and 2 right by the generators. I died once right at the beginning thanks to getting jumped by a grunt with a plasma pistol charge and 2 elites with fuel rods. Once you get to the generators just make sure you activate the turrets as soon as you can. It seemed like the multiple waves of elites and hunters pretty much ignored me most of the time and focused on the turrets and generators. The grunts were no issue because I could kill them before they got close enough to do anything. Just remember to jump out of your mantis once it's badly damaged and grab a new one.

Some friends and I did it, we just parked a 2 warthogs in front of each generator, neither generator suffered any damage at all, when the guns come online just activate them as well, pretty easy achievement really

For this achievement the Mantis and the Gauss hogs are your key tools. the generators are really close to each other and there's only so many places they can be attacked from, so just stay in between them and lay down all the fire you have. One of the most important things to remember is to keep your eyes peeled for hunters, and to grab their attention and just lay them out. This achievement is a lot easier than it sounds due to all the resources available. good luck!!

Infinity Multiplayer :: Spartan Ops related. Online Required. Must be obtained on Heroic+.
Don't lose a generator during Episode 5: Memento Mori  • Chapter 4: The Cauldron Base either Solo or Cooperatively.

There are 2 generators you must protect. If you are playing Co-op with 4 players you will spawn with 2 Warthogs at the start of the level. If you are playing Solo or Co-op with 2 players, you will spawn with Mantis at the start of the level.

Get in the vehicle of your choice and use it to kill the enemies up until you reach the generators. Position your vehicles between or around each generator to protect the one that will be attacked (the side the covenant is dropped off on, that generator is usually attacked). There are also stationary turrets located above each generator if you need extra firepower.

Using the Mantis (1-2) to protect the generators is reported to be the easiest method.

A warthog tactic that works (3+) - Position the Gauss Warthog between the generators.
Have the second Warthog be Spartan driven with 2 marines (one with rockets). Use this Warthog to ambush the Covenant after each time they are dropped off. Your marine with rockets will usually take care of the Phantom's plasma gun, and large groups of Grunts.
Drive back and forth under the bridge and attack the Covenant from behind as they push toward each generator.

A warthog blocking tactic that works (3+) - Use the warthogs to try and "block" the 4 main entrances to the base, which will give you more time to kill enemies, and block them from getting within range of damaging your generators. From here, you can use the Warthog or Gauss Warthog to kill enemies (ranging from grunts to hunters) as they flood from each direction, or you can stay on foot, running around and killing them. After about 3-5 minutes, the enemies will stop spawning, and as long as both generators are still active, everyone in the game will get the achievement.

Repeat if unsuccessful.
