How to unlock the Lone Wolf achievement in Halo 5: Guardians - Definitive Guide

1. Use and abuse of the nearly unlimited sprinting ability so you can avoid a lot of fights.

2. If you keep dying while trying to do step 1, then you might want to consider the opposite approach and take the time to clean all the enemies that can do considerable damage against you before you can go through a door/passage/objective. You don't have to clean every single little grunt everytime unless it's necessary for the story to proceed. I skipped, for instance, most of the Battle of Sunaion level just running through. Other times, like the descent down the Guardian's body in the level called Genesis, I'd die everytime I tried to jump jump jump run run run. So I knew it was time to try a different approach, taking the enemies out from a distance with the Battle Rifle or even while in the air, and it worked.

3. Frequently push up on your D-Pad (cn_up) towards an enemy to highlight him and command your team to help you wipe him out, 1 enemy at the time, specially the most dangerous ones and the closest to you, otherwise, if you send them to kill the sniper that's in the far back behind the whole enemy army, they'll likely end up dying. You'll notice that your squadmates will help a lot more if you constantly command them against an especific target. You can also command them to change the weapons they're using by looking closely to the weapon you want them to pick up and then highlighting it. One of the 3 members of your squad will take it. If the wrong person does it, have them undo it and highlight it again.
I couldn't decide if it was worthy giving them power weapons (such as the prometean incineration cannon) or if it was best to keep the spares for myself. If you're just passing through but can't carry any more, then I'd say it's best to give them up to the other members. Anyways, just make sure they have good weapons. Covenant ones (in general) seem to be the weakest of all 3 factions.

4. Sometimes is better to let your team die if you can't control them or pay too much attention because you're trying to survive. They will spawn back, although it takes a little while.

5. Related with the step above, when fighting the Boss, stay out of his physical reach as much as possible. For instance, in one of the open area fights, I jumped down to the ground where the Warden was only after I ran out of all the ammo I could find in the high ground caves I came from. So I took A LOT of his minions from afar first. When fighting him in an indoors/closed area I kept him tagged so I could easily watch and avoid him, always keeping some kind of obstacle between us to cancel his direct hits and special attacks. In one of these areas I noticed later that there were special weapons (a prometean incineration cannon, for instance) on those high platforms that stay suspended in the mid-air, so that helps too, provided that you perform the jump to reach them.
Incineration Cannons are great weapons to drop his health since it hurts him even if you don't hit him in the back. Whichever weapon you use, don't waste ammo trying to hit him a second time if he's already on the animation that plays when you successfully hit him.

6. Still about the recurring boss, I'm glad I could skip our 4th encounter on The Breaking as showed on this youtube video (not my video): www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP49F59FUDw
It's not that hard to perform the jump, it took me at best 10-15 tries and remapping the controller buttoms to make it easier for me to press them correctly. I think the video doesn't mention it, but if you're falling too short on the corner that you're trying to reach, you might want to try and run straight first on the small middle pillar you're standing on, just enough for you to jump to the side then, thrust and ground pound in the corner. If you don't fall exactly on the top be ready to try and grab the edge and climb up (cn_A)
So, I never had to go through that fight, but I guess this is a HUGE help, frustration and time saver.

7. My final advice is for when you keep getting killed by the same enemies before reaching a checkpoint. It happened to me on the last mission with the Blue Team and it was a pain. The enemy snipers were getting me constantly, it seemed like a impassable frustration. In reality I was just tired and didn't want to repeat all the same other kills only to get another shot at the guys that were killing me over and again. But I had to, so I took my time, waited for the rest of Blue Team to respawn back a few times (always wait for all of them instead of sending just one alone to fight for you), as many times as it was needed and then started to mark the snipers real quick and went back to cover, ready my "Smart-Link" (what a fancy name) and then took them out 1 by 1, before rushing back to cover. Always stayed away from Knights, because they are also deadly and can overcome you as well as the party with ease.

Well, these were the tatics I learned while playing. If I remember anything more useful I'll update this solution as well. In all honesty, I agree with those who think that this was also the easiest Legendary Solo run of all the Halos out there so far, so it's not that bad. Feel free to leave a comment too and a thumbs, if any of it ends up helping you. Thanks!

Thank you for the breakdown. Much better than the top solution to be honest.

It's a VERY tough achievement to crack!

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. It's been a while I wrote this and I'm not writing much these days, but it's nice to look back and see that it's still helping other people out. Cheers!

If u just Need some help with the boss fights on Legendary, I have made this Video which will show very easy methods to defeat the Bosses in Level 5, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

Edit
:
I ve used all The technics on my first play through on Legendary difficulty. When I decided to make this video I was short on time which is why I recorded the clips on Heroic difficulty so that I can reach the end of the missions where the boss fight starts faster.

But still the methods work even though in mission 7 u need about 20 shots of the light rifle In addition for the method that is shown.

I did not intend on confusion but I apologize for any inconvenience.
There u go.

If u stay calm and take ur time the rest of Halo 5 should be alright as long as u always aim for the Head ;)

Good luck smile

that certainly explains a lot, I apreciate that you've now added that to the solution. Knowing in advance that it will be harder than shown on the video removes a lot of the frustration from not being able to replicate exactly what you do :) As I said, strategies do work for the most part (still not convinced about the one for mission 7, but that might be due to my own clumsiness and not being very good, so... haha). The solution does deserve an upvote now :)

I just finished my play through, and used this video as a guide for all of them (except 5...wish I had seen this first). They all work, though as stated, it just takes a bit more time, no huge changes though.

OK. I've done the 1st Boss (Mission 5) and eventually got it to work. The first 3 or 4 times it just shot or hit me. Then I used up on the D-Pad to move my team mates next to me on the ledge and he ran off. laugh

Mission 7 worked exactly as the video. Thought I'd got the wrong section as the Warden didn't even move. Mission 12 I couldn't stay on the right as I kept getting killed by Knights. I picked up Fuel Rod and went into cover in the middle of map. Then just let off all the shots and took it out with ease. The AI kept everything else busy. Mission 12 was fun. The Wraith worked a treat but I stayed on the ramp and shot from there. Took very little damage unlike when I moved up like in the video. Great video +1 from me

The video is not on legendary difficulty. Strategies for missions 5 & 14 work regardless of the difficulty of course, but for the others, especially mission 7, the strategy shown does not work on legendary, there's no way you can take down Warden Eternal with basically 6 rounds of binary rifle on legendary. Mission 12 dows show a good spot and, since there's enough ammo around, you can adapt it to make it work. The strategy for mission 13 worked and made things much easier, but it took much longer than shown in the video (check the kind of damage the AIs and the co-op player take in this mission... on legendary? C'mon!). Not voting on the solution, it was somewhat useful but deceiving.

Mission 5 doesn't work anymore. I've been trying to get him to jump off and he just one shots me everytime. Bullshit.

EDIT: nevermind, it does work, but you need to command your teammates to sit on the ledge with you and hope he jumps at them. Took me about 20 attempts to get him to jump.

Okay so, for those who have the tracker stuck at 93% or something like that, ask a friend to view ingame your stats (and if he can see that you actually completed each mission on Solo Legendary).

My brother had completed every mission in Solo Legendary, even Halo Waypoint showed that every mission was completed this way, but when I looked at his ingame stats, I noticed that (according to the game), two missions were not marked as completed on Solo Legendary, he did these missions again (in Legendary of course) and the achievement popped.

This achievement will unlock once all fifteen missions of the Campaign have been successfully completed on a Solo Legendary playthrough. As you can imagine, there are multiple methods in tackling each mission of the Campaign, but keep these general tips in mind when playing:

  • Utilize the Noob-Combo (Plasma Pistol + Precision-based Rifle) at all times when facing Covenant Elites
    • An overcharged Plasma Pistol shot will drain their shields, and a quick precision round to the head will finish them off
  • Utilize ground vehicles – Warthogs, Scorpions, and Ghosts – as frequently as possible
    • Their firepower on missions such as Glassed and Genesis will help clear out areas quickly and you can even drive past enemy encounters if the mission allows for it
  • Pick off enemies from afar with precision-based weapons (i.e. Battle Rifles, DMRs, etc.) as to avoid close quarter engagements
  • Save your power weapons (i.e. Rocket Launcher, Fuel Rod Cannon, etc.) for battles against Hunters and Promethean Knights
  • Get into the habit of issuing orders to your fireteam in combat
    • Command them to pick up power weapons as they will have infinite ammo
    • Command them to focus fire on certain enemies (Watchers and Snipers should always be taken out first)
  • Don’t neglect the basics of using cover
    • When your shields drop down, hide behind a wall or crouch behind an object before charging back out into battle
  • Try exploring the levels and finding alternate routes behind or around the enemies
    • This can help save time by skipping major firefights on missions

Overall, completing the entire Campaign on Legendary won’t be a walk in the park, but you’ll find that it’s entirely manageable once you get a feel for the new gameplay mechanics and explore the levels thoroughly for optimal cover and flanking positions. It's worth mentioning again that you need to get into the habit of issuing commands to your fireteam. The AI isn't all that smart on their own, but if their told to pick up powerful weapons or concentrate their fire on a certain enemy, they will surprise you from time to time with feats of victory.

Once all the 15 missions have been completed on the Legendary difficulty setting on your own, this achievement will be yours.
