How to unlock the The Tortoise achievement in Halo 5: Guardians - Definitive Guide

Easiest way to get this in less than 10 minutes:

- Select first Mission - Osiris
- Normal difficulty
- Now activate the following skulls: Catch, Fog, Famine and Thunderstorm.

Those skulls will multiply your score without making the run hard or punishing.
I also used the Cowbell, Grunt birthday party and Iwhbyd skull but I doubt they add up to the multiplier bonus, if you have those I suggest you select them anyway since they can't hurt.

Beating the par time is easy especially because it's on normal difficulty, just make sure you kill all the enemies and try to get multi kills when possible to increase the score and you should get 500k comfortably.

Good luck.

Add in Iron and you don't even need to peat the par time or get many multis. I done it 12 minutes with only a small amount of multis and I finished with 683k

Did you beat the par time? Getting multikills is also important, try using the iron skull like Hybridchld said, make sure you dont die when you have that turned on.

I did exactly this I got had a few extra skulls turned on but I was so far over the 500k threshold it wouldn't have mattered if I didn't have them on.

These were the stats I got:

Time: 7:35 - I tried to make sure I got all the multi kills I could and everything but I was still way under the par time
Kills: 82 - not too many just tried to aim for crawlers grunts and jackals
Accuracy: 70.4 - I used the following guns: BR, Magnum, Storm Rifle, Suppressor and Lightrifle.
Score: 1,197,426 - More than double what I needed :)

Lol 900k my first run (third run technically because I grenaded myself twice being too rambo-y). Got a killionaire and had over 130k after the very first group of enemies. These score achievements are kinda a joke, shoulda at least needed Heroic to earn them. Not normal difficulty with 2 to 4 skulls. Haven't even played since like January.

Tempted to run it again and add in Iron to see if I go over 2 million.

I did this with Iron, Tough Luck and Catch. Ended up being a couple of minutes over par time due to being more cautious about having Iron on, and still ended up with around 750k. Picking up the hidden Loathsome Thing (scattershot variant) helps you push through the final stretch with the Elite general and prometheans and I think scattershot kills give you more points.

Is it even possible to get the par time of 11 mins? The solution just doesn't work, every door doesn't open when you get to it, and thunderstorm makes enemies more powerful so normal becomes legendary... I don't get it?

Thanks Riahi, I got the achievement on the 2nd try. With your configuration, I had 491,000 on the 1st try. Then I changed thunderstorm (1.5) by Iron (3), I made 606,000 easy peasy ^^

It takes 6 min guys, easy achievement.

Was there ever any insight to this:

“I also used the Cowbell, Grunt birthday party and Iwhbyd skull but I don't know if they add up to the multiplier bonus, (someone confirm please), if you have those I suggest you select them anyway, they can't hurt.”

They don't add multiplier bonus as they don't increase or change the difficulty in any way.

I did it the other method some people have posted, Genesis on Heroic with several skulls on and ended with 2.75 million points, this probably would have been shorter but it was funny watching the score go through the roof like that. Cowbell, IWHBYD and Grunt Birthday Party skulls won't hurt but they won't increase your score. They have a score multiplier of 1.0, which means it multiplies your score by the number 1, leaving you with exactly what you had before.

Don't be scared off this huge score. This is actually quite easy to achieve by starting up the 13th mission (Genesis) on heroic difficulty. Then select the skulls tough luck, catch, fog, famine, and tilt. You will all of these skulls on be because there is a method to stay in the tank for the entire mission.

I am adding a link below to show you how you can get the tank to the last warden fight where you would have to usually fight him on ground. Just stay back throughout the mission and take your time. If you die, restart checkpoint so you still have the tank. All credit for the glitch goes to Aeons of Blight
(Glitch still works I tried it this morning, it may take a few times, but it definitely works).

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E8zvuXEKz6I

Also note; when you get to the first warden, you must exit the tank and walk across the bridge to trigger the warden. Then run back to the tank and have at it.

This is a good guide. I played recklessly and still had the tank until the very end.
Nothing tricky about it.

But... You've made put the multiplier way to high: I ended up with over 5 million points(!)
So you could probably even dial it back to normal. But definitely you could loose a couple of the skulls - not that it really matters.

I know that I probably could have brought the skulls down, but what's the point. You are in the tank the whole time so there is nothing to really worry about.

For this achievement I'd recommend the mission Genesis on Heroic, with a couple of easy skulls such as Tough Luck and Catch. This mission has an abundance of vehicles which should give you more than enough score, and a fairly easy par time if you boost past some of the larger battles in a ghost.

I have a video guide for all of the score attack achievements.

You can get all five achievements in one mission.

Mission: Osiris,
Difficuilty: Normal
Mode: Co-op
Skulls: Catch, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm

The achievements you can earn are:

Drop A Quarter - Complete a mission in Score Attack with at least 10,000 points.
Up For A Challenge - Reach 50,000 points in Score Attack with a Skull multiplier of x2 or higher.
Party Hearty - Complete a mission in Score Attack co-op, with all participants scoring at least 200,000 points.
The Hare - Beat the par time of a mission in Score Attack.
The Tortoise - Complete a mission in Score Attack with at least 500,000 points.

Below is the video guide, I hope it helps, enjoy! smile

I did this on Blue Team solo legendary. You have to play the game solo legendary anyways for an achievement. I only had 2 skulls on & none of them added anything to the score; they were grunt birthday party & IWHBYD.

I went about getting head shots as often as I could with the pistol til it was out then switched to a BR and continued, for all the jackels & grunts, I generally had my team target elites to kill. I gave my team heavy weapons starting with shotguns then giving them Hydra's as we went along, (they are great with them, you want to try and keep them alive with the Hydras into the coolant area so they can destroy the banshees with them easily). At the med bay I had them target the Hunters from one side of the room and went to the door on the other side and shot them in the back til they died. I used a BR at that point, since the pistol had long since been tossed. When I was able I had both the DMR and BR equiped til the hanger where I switched to a Saw (right outside the room) & a Rail Gun (found right inside the room), I used the saw to kill anything I could and kept the Rail Gun for the Hunters.

I died a LOT, my time was 58.58, so it was well into the red, but my score was still 554,800.

Because of this I'd say just put the skulls on that you want in general, turn on score attack, and just play the entire campaign on legendary that way. You're bound to get 500K at some point even solo, without going to any extra trouble or making it more annoying by equipping extra skulls.

Made a simple video to follow to get this achievement

01 Jul 2016 17:39

To start, head into the Campaign lobby with your co-op partner and switch on "Score Attack" in the Campaign setup options. Now change the rest of the settings to the following:

  • Mission - Genesis
  • Difficulty - Heroic (2x)
  • Skulls - Catch (2x), Cowbell (1x), Famine (2x), Tilt (2x), Thunderstorm (1.5x)

Naturally, "Drop A Quarter" will be earned while working on this achievement, and "Up For A Challenge" is stacked here as well for having at least one of the 2x skull multipliers active.

When the mission begins, run down the side of the Guardian as you normally would, popping headshots on the Prometheans along the way. You will notice that each individual kill nets around 7k+ points right off the bat. Once you're on the ground and have access to vehicles, the mission itself not only becomes much easier, but earning an overall, combined score of 500k will not be issue at all. In fact, you will overshoot that score tremendously.

In order to unlock "Party Hearty" during this playthrough, both players must score at least 200k or higher. With the abundance of vehicular firepower at your disposal (Scorpion Tank, Ultra Ghosts, Wraiths, etc.), staying alive, earning multikills for big points, and storming through the mission quickly will be very easy. Through experience, the aforementioned setup should leave both players with a minimum of 1.5 million points each so long as they're are actively engaging the enemy.

In addition, you can unlock the "The Hare" during this playthrough for completing the mission under Par Time. Genesis' Par Time sits at 17 minutes, but with the vehicular transport and firepower provided throughout the mission, you should have no problem finishing in 11-12 minutes despite the difficulty level and amount of skulls active. There's no need to rush - the Par Time achievement will come naturally.

Once you have completed this mission in under 17 minutes, with a score of at least 500k where each player has obtained 200k separately, all five Score Attack achievements will unlock.
