How to unlock the No-Fly Zone achievement in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - Definitive Guide
Do this on easy. It's easier. Also, you need to kill all three yourself—it isn't shared with your co-op buddy.
tl;dr: two at the beginning, two after the cave and saving your first group of strandeds (four total, choose three)
At the very beginning of the second level ("Halo"), Cortana will tell you to haul ass over the bridge into the hills. A dropship comes in, TWO Banshees with it (small, manned Covenant aircraft). Take them out one at a time or spread the love (damage) equally.
Later in the level, upon exiting the cave, save your first group of strandeds (or let them die) and Cortana will either call in Foehammer (your friendly Echo-419 "We Deliver") for evac, or will say that no one survived. When you return back into the canyon with the river to go to your next location TWO Banshees will attack you. Kill at least one for the achievement.
No matter whether the strandeds live or die, wait until Cortana/Foehammer's dialogue is over before returning to the canyon where the last two Banshees appear. Do not bring a gunner if you're on a lower difficulty, because if he shoots one down, you will not receive credit towards the three you need for the achievement.

when i got it the 2nd set of banshees were just hovering over the hills, i had to use the warthog gun to kill the 3rd one to get the achievement.
i rescued the marines who were hiding in the rocks, not sure if that's what caused the banshees to not be nearer though or whether it was just a glitch.

Post-cave, after you rescue your first batch (don't think it matters which ones—there are three groups), that's when they come out.

This achievement was rather easy. Take out three of the four banshees found on the level halo, not too bad right? Well I can guarantee everyone out there can get this, you just need a little determination.
Setup= Halo Anniversary campaign, the level Halo (level 2), SINGLE PLAYER (team-mate banshee kills count separate from yours...), you can choose a difficulty, it doesn't matter that much. I did this first try on Heroic, but if you're having difficulties, feel free to try Easy or Normal.
What to do= When you start the level you're leaving your drop pod that violently crashed and killed the crew. Grab your ammo, and head straight across the bridge. A search party will then come out (consisting of: 1 phantom [drops ground troops], 2 banshees)
-Hide behind the first couple of trees, and wait till both banshees get a little closer.
-When they are close, take out your pistol and scope in on each of them, taking a few shots at each. This will draw attention bringing them closer for an attack.
-While they are attacking, when one gets into a close enough range, unload on it with the assault rifle until it's taken a decent amount of bullets, and the vehicle is smoking.
-Repeat this process on the OTHER banshee till it is smoking as well. After the second banshee is smoking, reload.
-Make sure both are in a decent range, and use your assault rifle to shoot one down, then the other *NOTE once one is shot down, the other will try to escape. You then quickly shoot it down, and if it moves out of range switch to pistol.
-IF IT GETS AWAY RELOAD CHECKPOINT and try again.
After those two you'll have a ways till the next. You'll be driving in your warthog in a forested area looking for survivors when the other 2 attack.
-Jump out and get in the turret on the back, and use the same process as the first two (except with a turret).
After the first one, your achievement should pop, unless you only got one of the first two, in which case you'll have to take down the second one. Some might prefer to kill one of the first 2, and both of the second group. It still works.

Update-
Note worthy from "Hullabalooza"- One play-through does not mean completing the level in one sitting. If you stop and save and come back to the level later it will keep record of the banshees you have already killed so that you can still earn your achievement.

Good solution. I think it's worth mentioning that a "single play-through" does not mean "complete the level in one sitting". I managed to get this achievement by playing this level over 3 days (I was going for the Pedestrian achievement too) by Saving my progress and continuing the Campaign the next day.
Don't know if that's helpful to people but thought I'd mention it.

That's a good point, it does leave it open to interpretation without it. Thanks, will add that in

This is an easy achievement. I used this method and managed to not only get 3 of the 4, but all 4 of them, playing alone, on Heroic. The higher difficulty probably made this method easier as there is more room for error in the first steps.
Activate Bandana skull and use a pistol.
Shoot up one banshee until it is sparking and smoking.
Reload.
Shoot up the other banshee until it is sparking and smoking. Reload. (I think I used about 1 1/2 clips a piece).
Once both are showing signs of heavy damage start shooting to kill. Blow up on and then the other.
There is an element of timing to this method. Once you are ready to make your kills it is best to wait until both banshees have turned and are coming towards you to being shooting for the kill.
I did this at the crash site and then again in the canyon and killed all 4 by myself.

Here is a video walkthrough of how to get the no fly zone avhievment in Halo Combat Evolved Aniversary if you have any questions message me.
I have made a video on how to easily get this achievement.
This achievement is just for the 3 banshees. I get all 4 though and I already had the achievement so it didn't pop for me.
This is a video on how to easily get both achievements in the mission Halo at once. You must not get in any warthog at any time in the game. You only have to take down 3 out of the 4 banshees. 2 in the beginning and 2 more near the middle of the game. Be quick though because sometimes they fly away. Follow this video and you should have no problem unlocking both of these achievements. The hardest part is the grenade jump in the beginning. Throw a plasma grenade right near the edge of the jump and back up a little and run and jump. Timing has to be almost perfect and may take a few tries. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. Do not get in any warthog and shoot any banshee you see.
Tip - Bandanna skull will help out a lot for almost every achievement in the game it is also the hardest skull to get.

This is probably the shortest and easiest solution you will probably read here to earn you this achievement. I have use this method dozens of times during my playthroughs and it works all the time.
After you've wiped out the Covenant ground forces, start heading towards the bridge until you activate the checkpoint. Once that happens, start heading back towards the crash site and look up above the waterfall to see the two Banshees heading your way. Switch over to your pistol and wait until they get closer for you to start shooting. Focus your fire at only one of them at a time until you start seeing sparks shoot out from the small craft. Do the same thing to the other one. When you have the two Banshees sparking, go ahead and finish them off. Doing it this way will help prevent the other one from escaping after he witnesses his buddy biting the dust.
Keep using your pistol and shoot off one round at a time for the third Banshee when you finally reach the area. Once it has been dealt with, the achievement will pop up.

There are 4 banshees to be found on this level. The first two attack immediately after crossing the bridge in the beginning of the level. The best way to destroy them is with the pistol. The AI is programmed for the second one to flee after the first is destroyed, so you have to be quick about it. The other two will attack you after you save the marines in the first of the three regions. You’ll be attacked in the open plain area heading toward your second region. Neither will flee, however, so make short work of them with your pistol.
