How to unlock the New Kid on the Block achievement in Halo Infinite - Definitive Guide
This can be earned in any matchmaking, so you'll want to do it in Bot Bootcamp to make it easier.
A "Perfect" means you got a kill (1) dealing 100% of the damage and (2) without missing a shot.
The VK78 Commando is a full-auto midrange rifle similar to the Battle Rifle. It can spawn in any of the normal spawns a BR can. Whether your match has this weapon is a bit of luck, though it's pretty common.
If you hold down the trigger, it will bloom and start missing shots. Because of this, it's very hard to get a Perfect with this weapon. You'll want to rapidly tap the trigger when you're firing to ensure you don't fire more than one bullet at a time. Play around with this to make sure you understand.
The bots aren't incredibly easy to kill with this as you don't have much time to line up the 8 shots you'll need to kill before they kill you, but they're still your best bet. I found it best to grab an Overshield to give myself a bit of extra health and then chase an enemy that's walking backwards looking at you. Bots like to randomly jump and crouch, but they won't do that if they're backpedaling (in my experience, at least).
Good luck!

Just got this early this morning and noticed a few odd things:
1. Bots were apparently upgraded since the solution. They were incredibly aggressive, and even when backpedalling they would jump and crouch at random. Sometimes they even counterattacked or would turn the other way and book it
2. I got 3 AFK kills using this guide to the T. Perfection never popped.
3. When I did get perfection it's because I charged on opposing player in team slayer. Me closing the distance compensated for the "blooming effect" and all my shots landed even at full auto.
4. I did not headshot the enemy. I melee'd him in the face to kill him and it popped.
My advice is to just join matches and grab Commando whenever possible. Be super aggressive and treat the Commando like a close range weapon. Seems a headshot is unnecessary but you should probably one-shot them when they're shields drop.

They say killing an enemy without missing a shot doesn't grant a perfect medal. We have tried numerous methods of trying to get it to pop with no avail. I dont take enjoyment in saying that those players who have unlocked it recently are suspicious however looking at some of the timings of unlocks on some of them and other games they have played, suspicions are inevitable if after i have messaged them and they are yet to advise on how they have managed to pop it. One messaged back and just said he killed someone in Slayer without missing a shot?

In a matchmaking game, you have to eliminate an enemy with a VK78 Commando without missing any shots and finishing with a headshot to get the PERFECT medal. Here is a video guide to show you how.
Rules for this achievement are kill the enemy with the least amount of shots. 8 shots with this gun. No missing. Shoot and hit once, you must kill the enemy with the next 7 bullets without missing. You must do all damage. I struggled to get this. But once I figured out the best way, I got 2 perfects with this in 1 game really quickly. The best way I found to do this is to charge at an enemy and spam the trigger as fast as you can while aiming in the general area of the enemies head. I do not know if I needed the kill with a headshot though. I dont believe ding with a headshot is within the rules. I think you just must do 100% damage within 8 shots without missing.

when charging, are you aiming down the sights, or hip firing? If I use the sights, I don't think I'm moving fast enough to charge them...
EDIT: got this today, trying this method. I ran around a small map, staying away from my team mates in bot bootcamp - then when I saw an enemy player close up, I stopped sprinting and walked steadily towards him, hip firing without aiming down the sights. He backed off, I followed, tapping the trigger rapidly (not holding down fire), and tracked the shots up his torso towards the head, ending with the headshot. Then got several in the one match with the same method once I had the timing down.
Thumbs up from me.

Thank you. I was struggling with this but charging a bot like you advised did the trick!

Can be earned in Bot Bootcamp, Quick Play and Ranked. (Basically any sort of matchmaking)
This one requires you to kill an enemy using only a VK78 Commando. They're not allowed to take damage from any other sources and the bullet once their shield pops needs to be a headshot. You're not allowed to miss, either. Bot matches make this easy. If you stand still to shoot at the bots, more often than not, they seem to do the same thing, giving you a nice, standing target whose head you can unload some rounds into.
//According to jellycube, only the final bullet (once the shield is gone) needs to be a headshot, though I couldn't verify that myself (yet)

Can't believe no one has Halo Completionist's video on here. He makes it really clear to see why this is easier for most people that are not playing w/ mouse/keyboard to get this via a bot match. The other video shows someone doing it, but this video he explains things while he's doing it. I just think it is clearer and more helpful.
Basically BOTS do not zig zag once they target you they just move forward or backwards, so you can get body shots on them to bust shields and then pop the head and boom goes the dynamite. Now for me to actually do it!

Probably going to take this guide down after a new update, but per the patch notes, updated on 04/11/2023(https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/136042352...), the dev's state the following:
"...When using the VK78 Commando Rifle, eliminating an enemy without missing a shot does not grant the Perfect medal."
So as DATZ says on Eurydace's guide:
"It seems when a grenade bounces off an enemy, it damages them but doesn't register as so. Therefore, bounce a grenade off an enemy and unload the vk78. Takes maybe 5 or 6 shots. Tried and tested for me and 2 other friends and works every time."
Did not want to add this as a comment to that guide, as i didn't want that comment disappearing up into the previous comments and others not being able to see it.
The reason this no longer grants a perfect medal, as i am thinking it, maybe I am wrong, is that at launch, the Commando killed people in 8 shots, as almost EVERY other guide says, and the achievement was hardcoded to have 8 shots be what gives the perfect medal. But the same patch notes also say:
"
The Commando Rifle now requires 9 consecutive shots to break a player's shields.
...
Increased Shots to kill by 1
"
so I am thinking that is why this medal is no longer awarded for doing it the way it should be, the way it is designed to be, and we need to do the DATZ grenade method to even attempt getting this.
As a guy that has done several BTB matches, unashamedly hunting for AFK players to kill with a commando, and having gotten lucky to find about 3 over many matches played, and losing hope cause i have actually done bodyshots only, then bodyshots with a couple of headshots to finish, and STILL NOT GETTING IT, i was going insane trying to figure out how to get it.

To get this Achievement you must earn a Perfect Medal with the VK78 Commando gun.
To get a Perfect Medal you must have all shots hit your target without missing a shot & kill the enemy.
You can get this on Bot Bootcamp, however it’s best to try this on an idle enemy & the closer you are to an enemy the less likely you are to miss because of the gun’s recoil.
Live Fire is one of the maps that has the VK78 Commando.

The best way to do this is on "Big Team Battle". Just walk around the map, far away from the teams. When you find a player AFK, this is the moment:
You need do all damage on opponent with the VK78, don't go wrong a single shot and finish with a headshot.
The "Perfect" notice will show in screen (40s on video) and the achievement will pop!
