How to unlock the A Spoonful of Blamite achievement in Halo: Reach - Definitive Guide
Go into firefight, put it on normal, choose a mode, I chose the grunt one and picked corvette as the location. I then went into the game options, changed the Spartan health to invincible, the ammo to unlimited. I went into the loadout and made my loadout a needler so that I didn't have to bother picking one up. I went also went into the wave option, and changed the grunts to elites. The reason I changed to elites is I found it too easy to kill grunts with the needler without using the explosion.
Once into the game, pick an elite and shoot him with a burst that will just about kill him. If you shot enough needles, they will blow up and a pink star appears on the left of your screen for a few seconds. That star indicates that you got him with the explosion. Pick another elite and repeat, they don't even have to be close to each other. 10 of those stars show up over time, and the achievement pops.
I tried a few ways to get this on some endless grunt modes, and it didn't seem to pop even after scoring 50k or a million with a needler as my primary weapon.

Took me longer to set the loadout, than to actually kill 10 Elites and get this cheevo!
Go to the settings and choose Weapons and Damage and make the following changes.
Damage Modifier: unchanged
Melee Modifier: unchanged
Primary Weapon: Needle Rifle
Secondary Weapon: Needler
Starting Equipment: Jet Pack
Infinite Ammo: Bottomless Clip (Crucial: No reloading!)
Equipment Usage: Unlimited
Back out to the Game Options Menu and choose Spartan Settings. Ignore the options here -- they won't matter -- and choose the Base Traits Menu.
Choose Shields and Health and makes the following changes:
Damage Resistance: Invulnerable
Immune to Headshots: Enabled
Immune to Assassination: Enabled
Personally, I like to set the waves on just elites. To do so, simply go under Game Options, choose Firefight Settings and Wave Properties and change these settings for Round 1, 2 and 3 Round Properties. For each Wave, Initial, Main and Boss, change these settings:
Uses Dropship: Enabled
Squad Selection Order: Ordered
All Squads 1-5: Elites
With invulnerable health, a needler, and unlimited ammo, you'll get this achievement in no time!
I did it in campaign, using both the needler and needle rifle both count as long as you get a combine explosion medal. If you are using the needle rifle dont aim for the head cos you'll kill them without a combine explosion.
In campaign it has to be at least on normal difficulty and you have to do it all in one life, dying resets the counter.
Hit the Chieftain with LB to break his shields and then just hold down the LT to shoot him until he blows up. Repeat until you blow up 10 of them and get the achievement.
*Must be done on Normal or higher difficulty*
You cannot die as it will reset you kill counter.
This can be done in any game mode. A supercombine explosion is when you put so many needles into a enemy, the needles explode and cause instant death.
There are two supercombine weapons that are found in this game:
Needler - T33 GML: The Needler is a Automatic gun that shoots faster the longer you shoot. This Needler has a magazine that holds 24 needle shots. The amount of needles needed to supercombine different enemies varies upon the enemy and how powerful they are.
Needler Rifle - T31 Rifle: Similar to the DMR, but the Covenants version. The Needler Rifle is a semi-auto single shot rifle that has a 3x zoom scope on top. To use the scope, click in the . A enemy that is shot three times with no shield will cause a super combine explosion.
Needle Kill Medal:
If you get a kill that is caused by a supercombine, you will see this medal appear on your screen. This only shows up in:
- Campaign (Only when scoring is turned on for Campaign)
- Firefight
- Matchmaking/Multiplayer
- Custom Games
