How to unlock the An Elegant Weapon... achievement in Halo: Reach - Definitive Guide
"... for a more civilized age."
Kill 10 enemies in a Firefight or Campaign session with the DMR.
This achievement, like many others in Reach, must be done on NORMAL or harder difficulty settings. Luckily, that is a minor hurdle.
Also, this likely needs to be accomplished in one life if attempting in Campaign, or one map in Firefight.
The DMR is an excellent long to mid-range weapon -- it's certainly "not as clumsy or random as a blaster." One of the easier ways to accomplish this achievement is to start a Firefight session and select the Recon loadout, which gives you the DMR as your primary weapon. Headshots make quick work of the unshielded foes, so focus on grunts and the like to make this go quickly.
If you are having troubles, you may want to utilize a custom skull that grants invulnerability or higher damage to your shots. To do this, go to the firefight lobby and select game options, just above start game. Select firefight settings and at the bottom you will see custom skull settings -- here you can select the spartan traits for one of the three colored skulls. Feel free to experiment with what works best, but just remember to turn the skull on in the wave properties for each round with which you would like to have extra help.

IGN made a video for easy Achievements in the Firefight mode. You can get about 9 Achievements in one game of Firefight.
Follow this video exactly and in about an hour an a half you will have 9 new cheevies including this one. =)
I highly recommend using the map Corvette and picking up the rocket launcher as it is way easier and faster to kill everything.

this is a fairly easy achivement to get as the DMR is probably going to be your best friend as you play through the campaign and most likely in firefight as well.
The first time you can get a DMR in campaign is on the first mission where *minor spoiler!* you have to protect a group of marines. It is marked by the ammunition logo on your screen, simply wander over pick it up and start blowing them covenant away. also one of the marines has on so you can always swap it off him.
In firefight if you go completley basic the 'Recon' loadout has a DMR or if you do gruntpocalypse they all do. and of course you could always change the settings so you always spawn with one. then all you have to do it kill 10 enemies with it and you're good to go.
The DMR is a medium to long range weapon, and is basically an earlier version of the famous BR from halo 3. so it can be used at long range to get headshots, just watch the bloom, or up close as a quick fire weapon.
