This achievement must be completed on NORMAL or higher difficulty
Also, the 10 kills must come in one life if you are attempting this in campaign.
This is quite simple to do in Firefight variants such as Sniper Fight, Sniper Attack, or Crash Site which all start you with the pistol as your secondary weapon with unlimited ammunition and loads of grunts to kill in the first wave.
As an added bonus, Crash Site will provide you with extra shields and no lives so that you won't get mixed up counting kills across lives. This mode can be found in Firefight matchmaking under the Score Attack play list.

It does not have to be done in one life, i dided 2 times when useing the pistol and still unlocked it on my tenth kill

When you start up the first mission, hit your "Y" button to switch weapons. This is your pistol. Simply progress through the level getting kills with it. The grunts are pretty quick kills at medium to close ranges as long as the shot is in the head. Besides that there are numerous other levels on which to get this achievement.

On the first campaign mission, simply press Y and the .45 is your secondary right at the start. Kill 10 enemies and the achievement is yours.

IGN made a video for easy Achievements in the Firefight mode. You can get about 9 Achievements in one game of Firefight.
Follow this video exactly and in about an hour an a half you will have 9 new cheevies including this one. =)
I highly recommend using the map Corvette and picking up the rocket launcher as it is way easier and faster to kill everything.

Just switch weapons by pressing
