This can be done the first time you ever put the disk in to your console. When you load up the game, you will be asked to enter a few details and you will be given the option to customise your spartan. Every new player starts with enough credits to buy the most cheapest item. Simply purchase an armor part from the armory and there you go, achievement unlocked. To get to the armory any time after you first load up, simply press start when at the main menu and then select "Armory" from the list that appears.

One of the cheaper things to buy is probably one of the helmet add ons, there are a few already unlocked for just 200+ credits so that can save you credits by doing that.

When you first start up the game and pick your spartan gender, it will bring you to the armory with a free amount of about 5000 cR. You can buy quite a few stuff but i suggest getting a new helmet or chest piece. Certainly the helmets because there are some cool ones already there. Once you buy an item (any item) for your spartan, the achievement will pop up and thats that. Definetly the easiest achievement in the game.

Right from the start of the game they make you choose your sex (Male or Female) and then put you into the armory. Purchase anything that you see that you can afford with the starting credits they give you.
