How to unlock the Make It Rain achievement in Halo: Reach - Definitive Guide
Go to the armory, and go to the visors. Press a over the blue visor, and hover over the "yes" button. At the exact moment you press a, push down on the left thumbstick, not the d pad the left thumbstick. You will not spend any credits but if done right you will get the achievement. This is not a random event it is confirmed by multiple people. If you vote down at least say why so I can change it. NOTE! Apparently some people are reporting rank resets, but I have not been reset neither have anyone I know.
UPDATE: As a request I have added a video tutorial. This is not my video it belongs to Badillin, the video shows this being used on a shoulder pad but is the same process

prior to reading this I thought it was a random event, I guess its a glitch in their game. Whatever....serves them right for decreasing the credits in Gruntpocalypse...

@poorman:
You are wrong sir. It does in fact work. Now maybe Bungie has already fixed it but it worked yesterday on my friends other account. Don't go blabbing your mouth because you couldn't get it. I accidentally unlocked it and I'm not even captain.

You need to earn a total of 450,000 cR across all modes to earn the rank of Lt. Colonel. You do not need to have the credits in the bank, it's a cumulative total.
To get the achievement you must purchase one of the following items that were unlocked by reaching this rank:
JFO Helmet - 60,000 cR
MJOLNIR Mk. V Helmet - 130,000 cR
CQC (left or right shoulder) - 20,000 cR
Collar/Breacher chest plate - 8,000 cR (credit Rhyolitic)
Tactical/UGPS (wrist) - 80,000 cR *also requires UA/Bracer (10,000 cR)
Black Visor - 100,000 cR
Grenadier knee guards - 45,000 cR
Here are the ranks to get to Lt. Colonel (the amount in parenthesis is how much cR is required to get to next rank):
Private - 7,500 cR (+2,500)
Corporal - 10,000 cR (+5,000)
Corporal Grade 1 - 15,000 cR (+5,000)
Sergeant - 20,000 cR (+6,250)
Sergeant Grade 1 - 26,250 cR (+6,250)
Sergeant Grade 2 - 32,500 cR (+12,500)

cR earning tips:
-Playing gruntpocalypse on Corvette is rich in earning commendations which leads to consist cR bonuses (go to matchmaking, cooperative, score attack. keeping voting until you get corvette which is a small map). Without unlocking any major commendation levels, you can consistently average at least 1000 every 8-10 minutes clearing this just for all the double kills, triple kills, etc. When you do unlock a silver/gold commendation level you'll get a hefty bonus. Some games I was breaking 3000 cR.
-Playing sniper attack on Courtyard is also very rewarding with about 1000 cR each attempt. As soon as the level starts, cross the bridge in front of you, make a right and get to the end of this walkway. You can't be flanked from this position so it's a good place to camp out. If you're patient, most enemies will come at you in waves of 4 which will line up nicely for a one shot overkill. In wave 4 & 5, some enemies can jump or jetpack to your location so just be prepared for that. After a recent update you can no longer pick up enemy weapons in this mode. You will get a lot of multikills on this map. I was getting about 50 per attempt.
-Spamming the target locater on Oni Sword base. Start the level on Heroic and sprint along the right wall to get into the first base where the target locater is (don't kill anyone). Pick it up, get to the back corner on the same wall its located on to trigger a checkpoint. Kill the enemies with one shot, revert to last save over and over. It's been brought to my attention it's also useful to turn on the Thunderstorm skull to upgrade the types of enemies you are facing, so you work on even more commendations (credit MICKERR). You will get a lot of commendations to the silver/gold level this way and you will get a great amount of cR in 1 or 2 hours. Once most commendations reach gold, this method becomes less and less rewarding.
-Play Winter Contingency on Legendary with scoring on and safely sprint your way through the level without dying. When you get to the final room with the four grunts and the sword elite, save and quit. Now resume campaign progress and clear them out, push the button, and skip the cutscene. You should get a bonus commendation (200cR) for beating the level on legendary without dying (Flawless Cowboy). You can then resume campaign and you'll be back in that same room. You can do this about 25 times for a quick 5000+ cR. After that the time it takes to do this isn't worth the small cR in my opinion.
-Daily/Weekly Challenges: These are nice cR bonuses to take advantage of, and usually are fairly easy to obtain. To check what they are for a given day, press start, go to challenges. So far, most of the kills X amount of enemies in firefight matchmaking have been attainable while playing Gruntpocalypse which is nice.
-Play the MP & Campaign! It's a brilliant game, and you are rewarded with cR for doing nearly everything.
Update: You can now earn 100,000cR just by finding all the terminals in Halo CE: Anniversary and then going into Halo Waypoint and entering "secret" codes. See solution comments for more info. (credit Drummin003)
Note: 200,000 cR is the limit of credits you can earn in a day. (credit Quarantane)
Check out the guide by bl4ck blooc that shows an alternate way to unlock this achievement. It appears you can get the achievement done without actually reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel!
I will update this with more information, please post comments with other tips for the Reach community and I'll add them to this solution. I don't take credit for discovering any of these methods.

Very informative! I've done a lot of gruntpocalypse and the ONI sword base thing. I actually have done the target locator trick so many times that I don't get cR for it anymore at all and not even for the second onyx commendation I got lol. My friend told me that after you get so much in a certain game mode (this being campaign) you can't get any for a while, just wondered if this was true and for how long. I havent bothered to do any daily campaign challenges because they don't give me any cR. I get it in everything else though.
Thanks
Thanks

well today you can play two games of gruntpocalypse which alone will get u 2000+ credits, and there is a a daily challenge for killing 250 enemies which will give u another 2500. almost 5000 for two grunt games! yes the credits definitely seem to decrease when u get the higher commendation levels on campaign. i think when they add campaign matchmaking thats supposed to change, i'll try to find a source for where i read that

The best way to get credits is to load up the 3rd mission on Herioc, RUN to the Target Destroyer, and wait for a checkpoint, then basically shoot the target destroyer back from where you came from, then either reload the save, or kill yourself (it is MUCH faster to kill yourself!)
Only worth doing until you have onyx on the "Splash Damage" and the "Walking Tank" commendations.
If you're still having trouble, Follow the HD guide underneath:

FYI, the current state of the Target Destoryer's firing function is saved when a checkpoint is received. Though it may take some trial and error to get set up, it is SIGNIFICANTLY faster to have the weapon in the process of firing when you get the checkpoint such that you will get the Killionaire almost immediately after reverting to the previous save.

Here's a very useful method for getting a lot of cR.
Do Nightfall on Heroic, grab the active camo at the beggining which is down the cliff to the left after you kill the first elite. Then you can skip past all of the enemies until you get to the bit with the stealth generator. Afterwards make your way towards the end, then save and quit at the last checkpoint. Once you've done that resume the campaign and make it to the end without dying. During the cut scene save and quit again. Now when you attempt to resume the game will end automatically before it starts and gives you cR for completing it without dying. You can repeatedly resume from this checkpoint and each time it will give you the cR and boost your flawless cowboy commendation.
I've only just recently and luckily found this glitch so I tried to recall everything I think was necessary to achieve it. I also had scoring on Team and the Tilt skull on at the time but I doubt those were necessary. This can probably be done on any level but I found Nightfall the easiest.
Hope this helps.
EDIT - People have been telling me in the comments that Winter Contingency is a better mission to try this glitch on. Also this is only really good as an initial boost of cR. After you reach silver there's no point continuing unless you want onyx.

Sadly enough, Bungie removed custom challenges from Halo Waypoint so this guide no longer works. I'm sorry to anyone who still needs the achievement as it will take a while to get without custom challenges. I will keep my guide up just because I put so much effort into it and also just in case there is a chance custom challenges come back or this guide can otherwise be useful.

25,000 CREDITS IN 5 MINUTES, LEGIT
Note that people are negging me because they either can't get this to work or because they already got it legit and are pissed off about my guide - that's their loss. Either way, I WILL save you over 20 hours of play time. If you have any problems at all, message me and I will walk you through this and get you the achievement in only 3 hours. Sounds great doesn't it? Trust me that this works, and it works wonders. I have already helped 40 people get this achievement and they were able to go on to bigger and better things with all the time they saved.
Please read in detail.
I will not repeat everyone else on what to buy to qualify for this achievement. I will focus on how to earn 450,000 cr to Lt. Colonel as fast as possible.
Tired of risking getting banned for using glitches or other tricks that Bungie is monitoring? Then read on. I spent considerable time reviewing all the solutions on this site, scouring the internet, watching videos and tweaking challenges to develop the best method for earning credits with the least amount of work possible. Although people have posted the ONI: Sword Base target locator trick, they have only discussed the earning of commendations and not how do integrate it with custom challenges.
First, you will want to go to Halo Waypoint and create custom challenges. I will not go into detail about where to find this or set them up – please refer to MrBigShade’s solution (second video) to see how to set up custom challenges.
When you go to Halo Waypoint, you will create 5 custom challenges. All custom challenges you will create should have the following type, time limit and constraints:
CHALLENGE TYPE
Campaign
SET TIME LIMIT (Hours)
3 (this is the minimum)
CONSTRAINTS
MAP: ONI: Sword Base
DIFFICULTY: Heroic (or Legendary)
SKULLS: 11 skulls: Black Eye, Tough Luck, Catch, Cloud, Famine, Tilt, Mythic, Thunderstorm, Cowbell, Grunt Birthday, IWHBYD (select all skulls except Iron and Blind – select all and deselect Iron and Blind)
Create the following custom challenges with the above settings for each and then the following specifics. Note that the max credits per challenge is now 5,000 so I figured out the exact number to set for each to maximize efficiency and provide you, dear reader, with the best outcome possible.
Custom Challenge 1 (4,999 credits in 5-10 minutes)
NAME CHALLENGE
Grunt
GOALS
1. GOAL: Kills of Enemy
2. TYPE: Grunt Hero
3. TARGET: 172
Custom Challenge 2 (4,999 credits in 5-10 minutes)
NAME CHALLENGE
Skirmisher
GOALS
1. GOAL: Kills of Enemy
2. TYPE: Skirmisher Specialist
3. TARGET: 172
Custom Challenge 3 (4,999 credits in 5-10 minutes)
NAME CHALLENGE
Jackal
GOALS
1. GOAL: Kills of Enemy
2. TYPE: Jackal Specialist
3. TARGET: 258
Custom Challenge 4 (4,999 credits in 10-15 minutes) - OPTIONAL
NAME CHALLENGE
Elite
GOALS
1. GOAL: Kills of Enemy
2. TYPE: Elite Specialist
3. TARGET: 172
This challenge is sometimes hard to get given the low number of elites and difficulty of killing them - if you are having problems with this challenge, feel free to ignore it as other four will still get you 20,000cr in five minutes
Custom Challenge 5 (4,999 credits in 5-10 minutes)
NAME CHALLENGE
Medals
GOALS
1. GOAL: Medals
2. TARGET: 516
Now you want to go in to the campaign in the game and set up your mission as follows:
1. Map ONI: Sword Base
2. Difficulty: Heroic
3. Turn on Scoring! You will not get medals unless scoring is on
4. Activate skulls: Black Eye, Tough Luck, Catch, Cloud, Famine, Tilt, Mythic, Thunderstorm, Cowbell, Grunt Birthday, IWHBYD
Start the mission. Basically what you will want to do is get to the target locator, wait for enemies to fill the area outside the hangar, and once you are satisfied with the group of enemies, target them with the laser. You should get a CHECKPOINT REACHED message as the strike is coming down (not before!). This way, every time you revert to checkpoint, it will all be positioned for you and all you need to do is keep hitting revert to checkpoint (from the pause menu) after each strike and having it automatically kill enemies in just a few seconds.
Follow the video below for how to get the target locator and set up your checkpoint (I do not take credit for this video).
Some notes on setting this up:
1. He plays on Legendary – I suggest Heroic since it’s easier to set up (less chance of dying)
2. If you are having trouble getting past the first elite at the top of the stairs, let him hit you! Then run around behind him and assasinate him (when he hits you he stops moving for a second - just enough time for you to kill him). However, if possible don't kill him because he will be one of the elites you kill for Custom Challenge 4.
3. Do NOT throw the grenade like he does when he’s coming around the corner as it kills some of the guys you want for targeting later
4. Make sure the checkpoint does NOT show up before you target (if it does, start over). To prevent that from happening, KEEP MOVING. Checkpoints don’t show up until you stop moving, so keep moving around the screen until enough bad guys show up then head to the back of the hangar and target everyone. Just like he does in the video.
After you kill everyone, I suggest backing out and checking your carnage report. I got Jackal x 5, Grunt x 3, Skirmisher x 3, Elite x 2, plus about 1500 credits per strike in the beginning from commendations. If your carnage report doesn’t look like mine or better, I suggest trying again.
If you are satisfied with your carnage report, just go back into the game and continue. It will automatically pick up from your last save (the strike coming down). Then just keep reverting to checkpoint from the pause menu over and over again after each strike.
In the game you have three choices on reverting to last save depending on your play style:
1. Hit start and revert right after the strike (probably the highest number of credits)
2. Hit start and revert after all your commendations show up (sometimes there are residual kills that take a couple seconds)
3. Tie a rubberband around your left thumbstick so you to move forward automatically and get killed. This will revert to the last checkpoint for you. Takes longer this way but I did this and then just went and ate dinner or did other things.
Every few minutes (you will figure out what works best based on your choice above), do the following:
1. Hit SAVE AND QUIT (stats don’t update on halo waypoint until you save and quit).
2. Refresh Halo Waypoint on your computer
3. Turn in challenges that have completed
4. Resume solo campaign on Xbox – do this while you are creating the custom challenge because stats don’t update until you hit save and quit
5. Create new custom challenges based on my guide above (why is this last? because stats don't update until you hit save and quit, so I suggest setting up challenges while the game is running)
6. You can do as many challenges as you want and you only need to set up the checkpoint ONCE!
Total = 19,996 every 5 minutes plus a bit of time for setting up challenges and reverting saves, etc. In an hour I reached the 200k cap (you can hit the cap in less than an hour - 40 challenges if you want to count). Doing this method gives you credits for:
• Custom challenges
• Free for all scoring
• Commendations
• Any daily/weekly challenges that are relevant
When manually reverting to save, custom challenges were being filled so quickly that I barely had time to set up new challenges before the previous one was finished.
If you are lucky, you will get it like I did where the target locator didn’t kill one skirmisher so after the bomb strike, the skirmisher killed me and it reverted to the last save automatically. I sat working on other stuff for 2 hours and just checked back every 5 minutes to update my challenges.
You can do this on Legendary and maybe earn credits faster, but you need to adjust the kill target down since the challenges now max out at 5000 cr. I didn’t bother since it takes longer to set up your checkpoint (easier to get killed en route) but that’s up to you.
Since challenges don’t update until you hit SAVE and QUIT in the game you can create a challenge mid-game and still have it count all the kills since you started the mission. Keep this in mind so you don’t feel like you are in a rush or missing out on kills. Just make sure you have all 5 set up before hitting SAVE and QUIT.
If for some reason you have not yet earned “Lemme Upgrade Ya” then you will get that in a few minutes, most likely from “Splash Damage”. You will earn the following achievements along the way with this method:
You WON’T get banned for this. I went from nothing to Lt. Colonel in just 3 hours.
Note that I don’t take credit for coming up with this method on my own, but I have done tons of research to bring all the best ideas together in one detailed guide so you don’t have to.
If for some reason your challenges aren’t working, you may not have your challenges set up correctly. Send me a message and I can help.
The hardest part about this method is setting up the checkpoint but once you do so you are done, you never have to do it again and you have just saved yourself over 20 hours of grinding!
Any questions, please post in the comment and I will do my best to clarify. Also if I missed anything, please let me know. Thanks!
Before leaving a negative, ask me for help!

The Lemme Upgrade Ya achievement in Halo: Reach worth 14 pointsAdvance any Commendation to its Silver state.
The The Start of Something achievement in Halo: Reach worth 16 pointsReach the rank of Corporal in the UNSC.
The An Honor Serving achievement in Halo: Reach worth 40 pointsReach the rank of Captain in the UNSC.
Got this achievement finally mostly by upgrading commendations and playing btb, invas & ffight :D
[On par with gruntpoc, flawless cowboy, target locator etc.]THIS METHOD SHOULD HELP YOU UPGRADE THE FOLLOWING COMMENDATIONS: Pinpoint, Cannon Fodder, Precisely, Walking Tank, Standard Issue, Pull The Pin etc. [use your imagination!]
Load up 'The Package' Rally Point Bravo with your choice of difficulty (normal should suffice) and free for all scoring.
Sprint over the tracks, past the first turret and head right until you reach some scaffolding above a nook on your left. Stand here until you receive a checkpoint, DO NOT ACTIVATE ANY TURRETS. If you prefer having the night vis on (I do) turn it on before the checkpoint to save turning it on consistently later. Once u receive your checkpoint strafe right whilst looking down the valley to the bridge and you should notice an orderly row of 8 grunts coming your way. Unless you're new to fps' getting 8 headshots and a killtastrophe should be easy to nail every time. If the grunt hero is messing with your multikill flow with his damn helmet just kill him last. Once theyre all dead to avoid getting a new checkpoint quickly press start > load last checkpoint > yes. After you've done this for a while loading last checkpoint should only take a few milliseconds. Do it for long enough and your commendations should race towards onyx :)
Hope this helps
Happy Gaming!

Just want to add to the above solutions. Max out your ONI Swordbase boost (target locator) first. As stated before, this rank requires 450k cR and you must have enough cR to buy an item which requires the rank.
Play Firefight Arcade. This playlist gives you unlimited lives, ammo, superpowers and a 15 minutes timeframe to play until the bonusround. It may surprise you, but it's more than enough, mostly because the covenant just spawn, no dropships (apart from the bonusround).
Gameplan:
- pick Fistfight or FRGfight (unless you really hate them, but they give you either superspeed or a massive weapon, and in that last regard any other big weapon gametype will also do)
- pick evade (or jetpack, but I prefer evade since its superfast)
- memorize the spawns and spawncamp the covenant there
- when spawncamping, throw a grenade (preferably a plasma) in one group (aim for the leader in the middle), and immediately rush towards another group and blast them away with a FRG, hammer, whatever, this will give you a 8x kill medal (killtastrophe)
Also, when playing Fistfight, FRGfight or any other powerful weapon firefight gametype you may want to rush the enemy, kill as many as possible. Die, repeat. This may sound stupid, but can give you more credits in the long run than going for the Perfectionist commendation (not dying in a round). But I gotta say, if you really want it, this is the playlist to do it in.
When in Fistfight, just before the bonusround (the last leader-based wave), do the following:
- go to the area where the dropship is going to drop the covies and clear it of any obstacles blocking your line of sight, if they haven't been blasted away already (like plasmabarrels, closed covenant weapon cabinets, anything)
- wait for the dropship and when you can destroy the turret asap
- select your hammer (if you haven't already), and happy smashing!
- don't forget the blackeye skull is on, so you have to keep on attacking to stay alive, no point in hiding or running for cover
Do watch out for groups of enemies sometimes spawning behind you. You can wait for the soundcue (they will freak out most of the time when they see you, before they start shooting), but looking around might be a better idea.
If all goes well, you should get (commendation upgrades not included) at least 2500 cR per 15 minutes. With upgrades you can even get as high as 8000 cR. But the numbers can be slightly off though, since I haven't tested this method in quite some time now.
If you don't want to do this everyday, aim for the Firefight Daily Challenges days (they happen once a week I think). Easy cR, netting you even more.
Don't forget there is a credit cap, 60k for anything below Brigadier, 120k above (and maybe even more, but this is about Lt. Colonel so out of context here). Good luck.
EDIT1: Changed some due to them disabling weapon pickup. Thanks Are You EXPd for pointing that out. No worries though, it still is worth major credits. And is alot of fun.

Do you want 15,250 points guaranteed plus possible extras every 20 minutes?
Requirements:
4 x Players with Xbox Live Gold Accounts and an Xbox each (You can Quad box yourself if desired )
Each player needs a second controller for a guest account
So that means 8 players in the match (4 Gamers + 4 Guest/Dummies)
Party up to make matchmaking a breeze!
The Player going for the points is the only one who needs to do anything, everyone else can stay put and watch tv or read a book, switch off your controller so you don't waste it's charge etc. If for some reason you aren't in a party together then you will need to search for the match again every time one ends..
Method:
Check out the video below
Start a Match on Grifball in the community playlist
Select the sword (It's faster) and start a killing spree that never seems to end...
5 ROUNDS of killing then in the last 15 seconds of round 5 score a point by delivering the bomb to the target. This will grant you around 4000+ bonus credits
Basic Maths:
2250 PER ROUND
5 rounds means 11,250 credits per match from kills
4000+ if you deliver the bomb to the target at the end of round 5 as the video shows
Plus any extra points received from daily challenges and commendations
Total of 15,250+ per match
So that's 30 games to go from Private to Lt. Colonel - 450,000 cR
3 minutes per round plus loading time is around 18-20 minutes per match
Extra Notes:
One player from each team can go and kill the opposite team but this will slow down your points, it's up to you if you're boosting and want to share.

Welcome
This achievement was so easy before the server shutdown but now it became a grind because of number credits that you can earn now is reduced to 50 CR per game / mission and also if you are playing online there is also a CR limit each day and you have to wait until the next day to get more CR.
So the only way to bypass the CR limit is by playing offline completely and avoid connecting to the live while you are in game after farming those CR because the game may subtract the CR that are past the limit.
The best method to get CR is by idling on Forge for 10 min and quitting out, This will net you 50 CR total.
This video here explains how all the CR system is working:

= 450,000 cR
Items to purchase at Lt. Colonel:
Grenadier knee guards - 45,000 cR
JFO Helmet - 60,000 cR
MJOLNIR Mk. V Helmet - 130,000 cR
Gungnir Helmet - 250,000 cR
Black Visor - 100,000 cR
How to earn cR: You earn cR from anything you do. Killing enemies, getting medals, completing a portion of the story, etc. Most of your cR comes from commendations. (medals like: Headshot, Double Kill, Killing Spree, etc) There are a lot of commendations to get. Doing the daily and weekly challenges are always a good boost of cR that usually can be acquired fairly easily. But if you want to gain cR quickly and efficiently, please refer to this thread: Credit Boosting Methods
